I work for the stockholm convention bureau . my job is to make your life easier, giving you infromation and advice and put you in contact with the right partners in stockholm in order to make YOU the expert!
With this presentation I would like to give you an idea of what kind of place Stockholm is, what the feeling in the city is like and why it is the capital of scandiavia..
We like to say that the smartest people in the world meet up in Stockholm.
The nobel price ceremony and banquet in mid december is a great example ofcourse
But it’s also a fact that Stockholm has been the birthplace of many of innovations since the Dynamite. Pacemaker, Propeller, Tetra Pak, safety Matches
that we take for granted in modern society. You might be familiar with skype or spotify?
Stockholm is very well known in the pharmaseutical indistry and life sience and Stockholm has the third largets ICT (infromation, communication tecnology) cluster in the world.
I can bore you with lots and lots of international rankings but what it all boils down to is that Stockholmers are a creative and curious people. I’ve heard that companies trying new product see to the swedish markets as we are known to be eaRLY ADOPTERS.
And everyone speaks english.
Do you recognize any of these apps? These apps have all together one BILLION users. What they all have in common is that they were invented in stockholm.
Enough with the hard facts. More than anything Stockholm is an extremely beautiful and pleasant city. And a diverse one! It is built on 14 island and is one third water, one third green areas and one third city.
This makes for a completely different city experience compared to most other large cities.
The water surrounding the city hall and the many waterfront located hotels, is so clean that you can fish or swim in it. And no, the temperature in summer will not keep you from jumping in!
Stockholm was the first city ever to be elected the european green capital. sustainability and quality of life are valued very high.
We have a steady economy and businesswise Stockholmers are know to be efficient and reliable people to work with.
Stockholm is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in Europe. Which is great, unless you’re looking for an apartment downtown…
One of the reasons behind the “boom town”-feeling, is the fact that many international companies now view the Scandinavian countries and the Baltic Sea area as one collective market. If you are going to establish a company in this market, Stockholm has become the natural choice.
But what sets Stockholm apart from other growing cities is that even though the city is growing rapidly, sustainability is always number one.
Which is why Stockholm was named the first ever European Green Capital in 2010.
Even if “European Blue Capital” perhaps would have been more appropriate considering that there’s glittering blue water wherever you look.

Ok. So we are facing some misconceptions. Stockholm is too far to travel to. Its craaazy expencive and there are polarbears walking around in the streets.
You seem like smaret people so I don’t need to get going on the polarbear thing.
Pricewise. You need to know what you are comparing. An offer from a hotel or venue in stockholm always include an awful lot. Wifi, vat, tips, etc. the price you get is the price you will pay.
And what about getting there. you can go direct, without any transfers from more than 128 destinations round the world. Around 80 airlines are operation on Stockholm and with both arlanda and bromma airport we are the largest hub for flights in Scandinavia.
2,5h from paris is not far. And with the efficiency of the airport and the local transportation; Within 1 h from when I land I am sitting at my desk in the office
And once you get downtown, 6900 rooms are within within walking distance from the train station.
Also when it comes to excellent venues, shopping, and more cultural sites everything is all within convenient distance for organizing a meeting or event.
Something I really like about Stockholm are the contrasts. It’s a big city with everything you’d expect from any capital in the world, culture, history, entertainment etc. But furthermore it has the charm and coziness of a small town.
It is trendy yet full of history and tradition
It is city pulse but also tranquility.
Just a 20 min boat ride, outside the city brings you to the beginning of the Stockholm Archipelago. A uniqe landscape of more than 24000 islands. With hotels, camping, nice restaurants, boats, small red houses, modern venues, activities, or a place that is your own private spot.
NO. We get winter too. and we get snow but not forgetting the beautiful colors of autumn or the smiles on peoples faces in springtime.
If you ask me when is the best time to visit stockholm, I simply say its a year round destination. Not because we have the same climate, but we have 4 very distinctive seasons. It is actually like a new destination eveery time!
If I say swedish cusine you might say; meetballs. But there are also cutting edge cooking, gormet food trucks, michelinstars restaurnts and some more obscure experiences such as the raw food pharmacy and the sour dogh hotel..
Stockholm is the place in Europe for meetings and congresses.
Probably because our strong offering when it comes to accommodation, interesting venues, because of convenience and efficiency.
But also because people enjoy it in there. It’s a place where they feel welcome, where they want to return. And they do!
We can host a congress of 25.000 people in the city
Stockholm will have something perfect to offer your group. Big..
Or small.
Stockholm is,
The capital of Scandinavia.
Economically, culturally and geographically
It’s clean and inspiring, offering many different activities on the different islands. Both within the city, how many? 14. and in the archipelago.
It is Beautiful, reliable and fun
I don’t know if you’ve heard this before, but Stockholm today is one of Europe's most popular Events Cities.
I think that an important reason for this is that everything that’s needed is already in place. And has been tried and tested over and over.
We have…
the arenas
the events venues
the infrastructure
the media
the experience
and of course the audience.
It’s all here.
