Our new schedule of class have a good impact to our next
generation?
This is new for us that the new schedule of some school
here in Philippines will start on August. Classes at UP in
Manila, Los Baños, Baguio, Cebu, the Visayas and Mindanao, and
UP Open University will start in August and end in May, but UP
Diliman, which has not completed consultations and UP Integrated
School will still follow the old schedule.
The first semester will run from August to December, the
second semester from January to May, and a short term from June
to July.
According to Toni Umali. We should not renew our schedule
of class. Our old schedule is appropriate and there’s no
conflict on it, they said that the month of June and July
dangerous month because of catastrophic that cause of typhoons.
He said that every month has a typhoon and earthquake that we
cannot prevent. So it means that there’s no reason to change our
school calendar. According to DIR. Julito Vitriola if they want
to adopt this schedule they should consult to CHED agency. Only
CHED has an authority in this problem whether it is public or
private universities they must consult to CHED.
Lawyer Joel Noel Estrada of the Coordinating Council of
Private Educational Associations explained, was proposed so that
Philippine universities can be synchronized with those in other
member institutions within the ASEAN grouping.
"They can easily come to us, at tayo rin pwedeng magpadala
ng mga studyante, exchange programs, research programs.
Pati mga graduates natin and professionals, meron nang
mutual recognition. Ibig sabihin, professionals natin dito,
professional din sa mga member ASEAN nations," said
Estrada.
In an interview with GMA News Online, Father Gregorio
Bañaga, president of Adamson University, said his school is
almost sure of implementing the change this year, to make
it easier for students to enroll from overseas
institutions.
Citing the 22 nationalities represented at his
university, Bañaga said, "Many of our foreign students
could only enroll in the second semester after graduating
overseas because it's too late for the first semester."
Why we need to move our schedule on august? What are
the reasons? I am agree to Toni Umali that typhoon and
earthquake is impossible to prevent. I think the main
problem is not the school calendar. But how the teacher
teach and what is the student needs. This is the problem
that we need to solve. If our student is become active
participant they also become active to any problem that
they encounter not only in school but also in real life
situation. As a teacher we need to prepare them in a real
world task and not a line them on ASEAN plans. I know that
we belong to this group but some of plans are not reliable
and not suitable to every school. For me we should diagnose
what is the problem of every school per region here in
Philippines. Example in Tacloban the facilities and schools
are destroyed by typhoon Yolanda. What are the steps that
the government should do?
On my own before we adopt the plans of other lets a
line it to our prospectus and make our objective
inconsistently. According to what the student needs and
problem.
