INTRODUCTION
1. The reason for choosing topic
After more than 30 years of implementing the open door policy, Vietnam's economy has
been making great progress, the volume of goods traded with other countries has increased
significantly. Especially since Vietnam's accession to the WTO, our country has become
more and more integrated with the world economy through the way of foreign trade.
In this trend, Vietnam not only opens its doors to exchange with the outside but also actively
participates in and concludes agreements on world economic organizations, typically
joining WTO (World Trade Organization), AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area), TPP (Trans-
Pacific Partnership Agreement), AEC (ASEAN Economic Community)... Especially, when
it comes to foreign trade, we must mention import and export activities immediately, the
guideline of the economy in general, and foreign economic activities in particular.
However, due to the young economy, many businesses still encounter difficulties and
challenges when economic and trade cooperation with other countries. When carrying out
commodity export processes, perfecting the export process is a prerequisite to improving
the efficiency of export operations. Especially, the COVID 19 epidemic in 2020 has caused
damage to many businesses, some leading to bankruptcy.
During the training process at Tien Dat Wood Technology Joint Stock Company, having
access to the export activity of business, the author feels the great influence of this process
of the business. Therefore, the author chooses "An analysis of export activities in Tien Dat
Wood Technology Joint Stock from 2018 to 2020" as the topic of training reports for the
purpose of researching, analyzing, and evaluating the export activities at enterprises. At the
same time, the author proposes solutions and give recommendations to improve business’s
export activity.
2. Research objectives
The overall goal is to analyze the export activities of Tien Dat Wood Industry Joint Stock
Company. Specifically, analysis of the company's product export in the markets, general
assessment of business’s export activity, research and analysis of factors affecting export
activities. Thereby, the author proposes measures to improve and expand the export market
of company.

The research project is based on the application of theory, combining practical observation,
and using the company's database. Simultaneously coordinate methods:

During the training period at Tien Dat Wood Industry Joint Stock Company, the author was
assigned to be in charge of Business operations at the Export - Import Department. In
particular, the author has been allowed to participate in the export process for a number of
contracts, which are described by the author as follows:
- Search, care, introduce and develop a network of foreign customers for wooden furniture
and carton;
- Making periodic sales reports, ensuring committed sales assigned by management;

- Perform several other professional tasks assigned by the direct management or the Board
of Directors of the Company;
- Coordinate with related departments to perform and take care of contracts.

Chapter 1 provides general information of Tien Dat Wood Technology Joint Stock
Company about the history of formation and development, organizational structure,
business areas, the company's operations in the period 2018-2020 and development
orientation of the company in the future.

Bui Thi Xuan Ward, Quy Nhon City, with the total area is 10 hectares
(Factory 2). Thanks to this expanding, we improved the output capacity of
our factory to 200 cont 40'/month. And we re-new our charter capital to 2.8
million USD.
June 2007 July 2007 renaming Tien Dat Furniture Corporation, continuously
investing and expanding, building new factories with new profession of
Indoor Furniture, will be operated in April, 2009 and wicker factory started

● Personnel Administration Department: implement policies for employees, labor
contracts, salaries, bonuses, administrative activities, monitor the implementation of
internal rules and regulations by businesses. suggest. Recruit and allocate personnel to
vacant positions of the enterprise.
● Marketing department: is responsible for finding customers, managing the website, e-
commerce of the company, posting the company's product information on websites,
mainly in the form of online.
● Financial and Accounting Department: performing accounting and cashier duties,
making statistics, tax reporting, performing banking duties. Keep track of the number
of goods exported and imported under contracts, the number of goods sold and
inventory, calculate the cost of products, make import and export documents, and
deliver documents.
● Export - Import Department: is the most important part of the organizational structure
of the company. This is the department that performs most of the company's business
contracts, contributes greatly to the company's profits, contributes to the development
and growth of the company, and also advises the board of directors. Director in
understanding, signing contracts with customers. This department is divided into three
divisions: the division of mobilization, the division of foreign trade, and the division of
delivering and receiving.
The departments and divisions are closely connected during the operation process and
subject to the supervision of the board of directors forming an effective and unified
operation apparatus.

1.4 Development orientation
Company continue to develop items that have been doing business with customers; expand
the supply of exports to ensure input, proactively sourcing the company's exports; expand
export markets, create trade relations with old customers, and seek new import customers.
They gradually expand the operation of the company by transferring profits to reinvest and
expand the scale of working capital; gradually improve the company's ability to operate at
a higher profit and develop personnel both in capacity and experience. They plan to develop
a marketing system, building reputation and branding of the company in the international
and domestic market; focus on applying e-commerce in customer search and marketing
activities; always be wary of commercial frauds and "ghost" companies operating globally.
It is important to understand the company that is making the transaction so as to avoid the
most likely losses that may be bankrupt.

2018-2019: The targets in 2019 increased compared to 2018, the total profit after tax
increased by 15.6%. In this year, the company expanded its market to European countries
like Italy, Romania, ... so the increasing in export activities made revenue as well as profits
increase.
2019-2020: In addition to expanding the market to other countries, the company's marketing
activities in this year are also very ebullient that attracted many importers from other
countries, so it made not only export activities but also all the targets increased speed up.
Each index increased by 5% on average compared to 2019. Although there is an epidemic
of COVID 19 in 2020, thanks to a excellent management device and the state's coverage to
continuously comply with the situation and recommend the Prime Minister on measures to
ensure tight manipulate with the disease, whilst handling the congestion at the border gate
in accordance with the situation on the Vietnamese side as well as different countries, the
company can nonetheless behavior export activities and reap greater revenue in 2019.
From the data of table 1 we see, revenue tends to increase over the years, specifically: The
total revenue of the company from 2018 to 2020 has increased continuously over the years
and increased sharply from 21 billion in 2019 to 24.2 billion in 2020, equivalent to an
increase of 15.2%. Besides, the company's cost also increased continuously over the years
and increased sharply from 16 billion in 2019 to 18 billion in 2020, equivalent to an increase

of 13%. The profit after tax of the company increased sharply from about 3.2 billion in
2018 to 4.5 billion in 2020, equivalent to an increase of about 37%.
Thus, it can be seen that in the period from 2018 to 2020, the business activity of Tien Dat
Wood Technology Joint Stock Company show signs of development. However, revenue
and profit growth were uneven and tended to change over the years. But in general, with
the continuous efforts of the company's staff and management, it could be seen that the
company was constantly developing and improving business export activity. With the
achieved results, the company would be motivated to expand production and business
activities, develop further in the next stages, and gradually increase the competitiveness in
the process of international integration.
Chapter conclusion
Chapter 1 has provided basic information about Tien Dat Wood Technology Joint Stock
Company. With more than 20 years of operation, the company has achieved certain
achievements, affirming its position and potential in the export of goods, reflected in the
growth in the period of 2018 - 2020. Chapter 2 will discuss to the company's export activity,

Through the table above data shows that the export situation of the company's wood
products in recent years has many changes and tends to develop well. Export turnover in
2019 tended to increase significantly by 17%, equivalent to USD 4.545.000 compared with
2018. Because of the Covid 19 epidemic, the export turnover in the next year did not
increase as strongly as in 2019. In 2020, the additional turnover continued to increase by
3.173.000 USD, equivalent to an increase of 10% compared with 2019. The increase in
export turnover showed that the production capacity for export business and the competitive
advantage of wood products in Tien Dat company is more and more efficient, although it
has encountered many difficulties. The reason is that the demand for wood products had
increased, especially outdoor wood products, in Europe and America. Due to the company
strengthens purchasing to ensure abundant and stable raw materials, the production
progress is guaranteed not to delay in production and export activity. The company has
successfully applied the quality management system ISO 9001: 2015 with the motto:
reducing the percentage of damaged goods in each stage, ensuring the correct quantity and
type of delivery, no product return and reduce the rate of customer complaints, contributing

to improving the company's competitive position in the industry. The company increasingly
focuses on training, fostering and improving intellectuals and skills for employees.
2.1.2 Exporting modes
Tien Dat Joint Stock Company uses the form of direct export and export entrustment to
foreign markets. Both forms have their own strengths and weaknesses.
The company exports directly through its own product creation, market searching and direct
marketing with customers, then negotiating specifications, packaging, shipping conditions
of each product and how for each shipment, then negotiate a final price before the two sides
sign a contract together. Through this form, enterprise has the ability to improve business
efficiency by refining products for export at high prices and seeking to reduce the cost of
exporting export to gain more profit. But business will have a lot of costs to invest in
infrastructure, factories, warehouses to manufacture products, and costs for marketing
activities and finding customers.
Direct export helps the company to be more proactive in searching markets, but when the
overseas market is in trouble, it finds out the situation is uncertain and there is no insurance
for the shipment. Therefore, if the company wants to export directly to achieve high results,
the company needs to do well the research and research of its target market in the
penetration stage.
Entrusted export is used with first-time orders shipped to first-time clients who have no
experience in that market. This method helps the company minimize risks in the first step
before long-term business. However, with this method of exporting, the company will
spend a large amount of money for the export consignment services and may be involved
in commercial disputes. However, this is a form that the company has not focused on
investing in, so it only accounts for a low proportion of the company's export activities.

2.1.3 Export markets
The export market structure of the company was expanding year by year, and it led to a
strong fluctuation in the proportion of the revenue of the business of exporting goods
according to the market structure. The company exports mainly in the Americas and
Europe, in addition, there are also Asian and Australia countries but the revenue fluctuates
slightly.

Through table 2.3 and chart 2.2, it shows that the total export turnover of wood products
over the past 3 years has increased with the growth rate of 17% in 2019 compared to 2018
and 10% in 2009 compared to 2008. Specifically, in 2018, the export turnover of wood
products reached 26,249,000 USD, in 2019 increased to 30.794.000 USD and in 2020 it
was 33.967.000 USD.
The European market is the market with the highest revenue and proportion in most of the
three years, in which revenue tends to increase or decrease unevenly, in 2019 it increases
by 10.69% by 2020, to decrease by 56.9%. The percentage of shares tended to decrease but
the decrease was not significant. Specifically, in 2018, revenue of 19.648.000 USD,
accounting for 75%, in 2019 reaching 21.750.000 USD, equivalent to 70%, down 5%

compared to last year, in 2020 reaching 12.367.000 USD, revenue decreasing by 9.383.000
USD and the proportion only accounts for 36%, down 34% over the same period last year
because of the COVID 19 epidemic.
The Americas market is the second largest market after Europe with revenue continuously
increasing after 3 years, although it has a small proportion, but contributes significantly to
the export turnover of wood products of the business. In 2018, the revenue reached
5.165.000 USD, accounting for only 19% of the total export turnover of wood products, in
2019 the revenue reached 8,648,000 USD and in 2020 the revenue continued to increase to
21.600.000 USD accounting for 64% of the total export turnover of wood products and up
2.5 times compared to 2019.
There are also some markets such as Asia and Australia, but only account for a small
proportion and a modest, erratic revenue over the years.

Through table 2.4, it can be seen that the export turnover to the markets has an uneven
increase and decrease. The familiar and main markets of the company are EU countries
such as Belgium, France, Germany, UK, Italy..., in the Americas such as: USA, Canada...
In addition, there are some countries such as: China, Australia, New Zealand... In 2020, the
export markets are not as diverse as 2018 and 2019, but the proportion of exports is higher.
In general, the company's total export turnover has grown quite stable, the following year
is higher than the previous year, although in recent years the company is also significantly

Picnic and coffee furniture account for the largest percentage and have the most demand
for use among the three categories from 2018 to 2020. The other two types account for
nearly the same percentage, only with a difference of 2% each year.

2.2Determinants of export performance in Tien Dat Wood Technology Joint Stock
Company (2018-2020)
2.2.1 Human resources
Leaders and managers are always active, actively seeking new directions in finding more
customers and expanding markets. The organizational and management structure of an
enterprise is divided into many departments with many different functions and tasks but all
have the same common goal of supporting the product manufacturing process from design
to the final stage to ensure providing customers with reliable, high-quality products. A
dynamic, enthusiastic import and export staff with full capacity, qualifications and
experience in entering into foreign contracts.
However, the labor force is large but the number of skilled technical workers and skilled
workers is still small. The company does not have a separate department in charge of
marketing and advertising the company's image, so information and images are less known
by foreign companies. Currently, there are a number of markets where businesses are not
actively looking for customers, but let customers come to sign contracts with businesses.

2.2.2 Process and facilities
Enterprises increasingly pay attention to the quality, design of output products, bring the
quality management system according to ISO 9001: 2015 into each production process to
verify, so product quality. increasingly improve to create reputation and trust with
customers. The company has a large and professional production line so it is easier to
prepare the source of exports and to meet the conditions for goods more easily. Due to the
company strengthens purchasing to ensure ample and stable raw materials, the
manufacturing progress is guaranteed now not to lengthen in production and export activity.
On the other hand, production technology is outdated, most of the equipment lines and
wood processing machines are long-standing from Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. Some
production stages are still manual, so the time to make products is slow, so the production
progress and product quality have not met the requirements of demanding customers. The
structure of product categories is less diversified and plentiful. There is no strategy to
diversify products, only focus on producing familiar products.
2.2.3 Other factor
April 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, has a strong impact on some
countries that are the main markets of the wood industry such as the United States,
European countries (EU), Australia, Canada to restrict or stop importing goods..., so the
export value of wood products fell sharply. It was forecasted that in the second quarter of
2020, the country's export value will reach about US $ 2.18 billion, down 20% over the
same period in 2019 and down 11.3% from the first quarter of 2020.
The company posted revenue of 62,719 million VND in March but in April, it halved to
34,289 million VND due to disease. However, from May to the end of 2020, thanks to a
good management system and the state's policy to continuously follow the situation and
advise the Prime Minister on measures to ensure tight control with the disease, while
handling the congestion at the border gate in accordance with the situation on the
Vietnamese side as well as other countries, the company can still conduct export activities
and achieve higher revenue in 2019.
2.3 General assessment

machines are made from Taiwan, China, and Vietnam.
W2 New market access is not impressive enough to attract new potential customers.
W3 The structure of product categories is less diversified and plentiful. There is no
expansion strategy to diversify products, only focusing on producing familiar products.
W4 Promotion activities are still weak, there is no separate department specializing in
marketing and promoting the company's image, so information and images are less known
by foreign companies.

CHAPTER 3: RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY OF EXPORT
ACTIVITIES IN TIEN DAT WOOD TECHNOLOGY JOINT STOCK COMPANY
From the analysis of the export activities of Tien Dat Wood Industry Joint Stock Company,
it shows that besides certain strengths contributing to boosting growth for export activities,
there are some weaknesses that need to be overcome and improved. On that basis, the
author recommends some solutions to improve the quality of the company's export activities
and expand export market.
3.1 Invest in improving process technology, machinery and equipment
3.1.1 The basis of the solution
To be able to maintain a long-term and expand relationships in familiar furniture markets
such as the US, EU and access potential, large but difficult markets such as Asia and
Australia. Enterprises need to have urgent plans to quickly deal with weaknesses in terms
of technology, product manufacturing process, and improve productivity and product
quality.
3.1.2 Conditions for implementing the solution
The investment in technology innovation must be aimed at synchronizing production lines,
improving quality, design, as well as improving labor productivity, investment in
technology innovation is absolutely necessary enterprise. Not necessarily modern
technology and machinery, but mainly depends on the requirements of production and
business tasks as well as the financial situation of the business. Enterprises need to consider,
inspect and re-evaluate all machinery and equipment. On that basis, the company should
have key technology innovation policies.
In addition to continuing to develop in width, in-depth development must be considered a
key direction in the company's production and business in the future. Because the advantage
and cheap labor cost are fading, high-tech factor is becoming a new weapon to improve the
competitiveness of products in the market.
Besides, the level of technology must be suitable with the skill level of the employee, to
avoid investing in too modern technology that the employees do not know how to use or
exploit ineffectively as it is. But it is not advisable to invest in average technology, used
machines (Second hand) because they only solve immediate requirements and quickly
become out of date.

3.1.3 Results achieved from the solution
To be able to invest effectively, the company must establish a team to manage and evaluate
the investment project of machinery and equipment, in order to improve production
efficiency to avoid causing waste. Fostering and improving the skills of using modern
machinery and equipment for workers, so that the production process works better, with
higher productivity, and product quality to meet the requirements of customers. The
company also needs to diversify its funding methods so that it can be ready to meet the need
to renew equipment and machinery when needed. The investment of machinery and
equipment is required to consider and re-invest in the factory to be suitable, to avoid the
situation of unequal investment that will affect production productivity.
