• Dios te salve, Palencia querida
Dios te salve, granero de España
vega y valle, llanura y montaña
forman toda tu tierra de afán
junto al férreo castillo ruinoso
se oye el canto de tus agosteros
mientras surgen al sol los mineros
en las cuencas de Orbó y Santillán.
Eres grande, humilde y altiva,
vencedora del fuerte romano
nombre y prez del solar castellano
cuya historia ilumina tu luz.
Cuna hidalga de genios ilustres
que lograste luchando en Tolosa
alcanzar el laurel victoriosa
añadir al castillo la Cruz
¡Gloria al pueblo valiente y honrado!
¡Gloria al pueblo creyente y sufrido!
noble patria donde hemos nacido,
arca de oro, de fe y caridad.
En tus muros se estrella Lancáster,
triunfa de él la mujer Palentina
y al impulso de la estudiantina
se instituye la Universidad

5. One of the most important monuments in our city, Palencia, is “The
Christ of Otero”.
The Christ of Otero seems to be in a position to bless the city. It was
built in the palentino 1931 by sculptor “Victorio Macho”. It presents
a style reminiscent of Art Deco, with cubist resonances and echoes
of the art of Ancient Egypt in the hieratic pose of the figure.
It is one of the statues of Jesus Christ highest in the world. At his feet is
excavated a chapel, and a small museum where projects are its
author.
At the entrance to the chapel is a small terrace and a gazebo where
you can have a panoramic view of the city
