Project proposal title and date:
More than meets the eye
Main area of activity:
Film/Video
Rationale:
I decided to choose video as my chosen FMP project, and I think I am going to create a thriller.
This is because I have been influenced by many different people. Firstly, Alfred Hitchcock.
Hitchcock is one of the best film directors of all time and is mainly inspirational for me because of
his extremely unique ways to build suspense. I have also chosen video as through the year I have
learnt an array of different skills from my projects First, my filming and editing skills have improved.
This is because I have been able to use more professional and improved equipment and software’s
than I have in the past therefore allowing me to develop my skills more thoroughly. My Photoshop
skills have also highly developed since starting this course. I am now confident in all the basic
Photoshop tools and have also learnt some of the more complex ideas of the software. This allows
me to create more professional looking products which will appeal more to my target audience.
This will all help me in this project as it will allow me to create an overall more aesthetically
pleasing product.
Project Concept:
My product is going to be a trailer for a thriller film. The film will be based on a stalker who has an
obsession over a young girl. The girl and her family try to escape from the stalker however, it is not
as simple as it sounds as he is constantly tracking her as he wants her as his. To make my
product I will need talented actors as they will need to be able to convey the emotion of each
character well. The trailer will be filmed in a mix of places. This creates the feel that the stalker is
following the girl around. For research, I will need to look at existing products which fit into the
thriller genre of film. This is to allow me to pick up new skills and techniques from already
successful films and trailers. For example, they may teach me how to build up tension more
efficiently as that is they key theme of a thriller. I will also research different audiences to see if I
am defiantly targeting the right one. I will also need to research some more complex editing effects
and techniques as I want to make my product look as clean and professional as possible. For my
FMP, I think I may also create a poster for my trailer. For this, my developed photoshop skills will
be highly beneficial for this as they will allow me to create a very aesthetically pleasing product. A
poster will bulk up my FMP and make my product seem as real as possible.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To evaluate my work, I plan to reflect on my product as soon as its finished. I will analyse the
product and state the positives and negatives of the trailer. I will state if it works as a trailer, it is fits
into the thriller genre and it if it targets my target audience. This will benefit me in the future as I
will be able to view my weakness and try to improve on them. As well as that, I am planning to run
an on-going evaluation throughout the project. I will call these reflective diaries. Every week I will
reflect on what I've done and state what I've done well and what I could improve on. This is an
effective method as from this, I will able improve my work every week.
