Magazine Cover and
contents page analysis
Lorraine Kutsirayi AS media studies
Front cover
             This is the mast head,
             this is the identification
             logo of my magazine,
             the name of my
             magazine is called
             ‘inspire’ my image is a
             light bulb and that gives
             the ‘idea’ aspect of the
             magazine. It also has
             the city college logo so
             people know it’s the
             city college school
             magazine. It also has
             the issue number
             underneath.

This is my lead story and its in bold
And capital letters so it stands out
And it is in the middle of everything.
Content page
This is my lead story on my
 contents page, it is the
 biggest image on the page.
It is also under the ‘features’
so it’s the big story for this
 issues magazine, followed by
 the safety in numbers and
 college fashion articles.

 These are my regulars, it
 consists of the articles that
are in the magazine all the
 time.
Magazine Analysis

What works?

In my magazine the mast head works because I got the name of my magazine but also
the theme and colour scheme from that idea. The contents page went well because I
included articles that the college students would like to read. My contents page also
works because it keeps to the colour scheme of red, black and white, the layout also
works because It is set out in ‘features’ and ‘regulars’ so they are set apart.

What doesn’t?

What doesn’t work on my magazine is the front cover, the front page could be more
interesting and more attention grabbing, It could also have more than one image on
the front to support the other leading articles.
What was easy and difficult?

In the production of my magazine what was easy was the planning, I had an
idea of what I wanted my magazine to look like so as soon as my flat plans were
done the production was easy, I was used to Photoshop so I knew how to do
everything I wanted with my work.
The difficult thing was making it unique because we got ideas from different
magazines and we had to put an unique twist to it and make it look original,
what was difficult was the laying out of the images and the writing, they had to
look professional.
What have I learnt?

I have learnt some key terms, and how to make and lay out a magazine. I have also learnt
to take high quality pictures for my magazine and take relevant pictures of my magazine.

What would I change?

If I had all the time and the money I would make my front cover, I would make it more
colourful or more interesting and more appealing, I would make the colour scheme more
varied and leave less white space and fill it up with something.
Other magazines I would compare my magazine with.
                                   I would compare
                                   this contents page
                                   to mine because it
                                   has one large
                                   image and split
                                   into ‘features’ and
                                   ‘fashion’ it is also
                                   simple and keeps
                                   a constant colour
                                   scheme.

I would compare this magazine cover to mine
because they are really similar, they have an
image of someone on the front and have a
main colour scheme of blue, black, white and
red
