An aquatic habitat is a habitat with water. It includes areas that are permanently covered by water and surrounding areas that are occasionally covered by water. Estuaries, rivers, and marshes are examples of aquatic habitats.
2. .
Aquatic EcosystemIt is believed that about 70% of the surface of the
planet earth is covered by water. The greater part of
the earth’s water is ocean 97% (sea water). Only 3% of
water on the surface is fresh.
3. .
Aquatic EcosystemOf freshwater, 69% resides in glaciers, 30%
underground, and less than 1% is located in ponds,
rivers, and swamps. This means water on earth, as a
habitat for many tiny organisms, medium and large
water animals is very significant, and together, become
the Aquatic Biome:
4. .
Aquatic EcosystemWater on earth is not all the same. They vary widely in
terms of the chemical makeup, the nature of its flow or
stillness, temperature and so on. This means that plant
and animal life in these waters will be different too.
5. .
Aquatic EcosystemAquatic ecosystems is an umbrella term for all
ecosystems that exist in water. Aquatic Ecosystems,
simply, is an ecosystem type that depend on water
(both marine and fresh water) most or part of the
time.
A scientist who studies inland water ecosystems
(limnology) is called a limnologist.
6. Rivers provide our communities with economic,
ecological, and cultural value. They were our
first highways, bringing explorers into the
heart of the continent. Today, our rivers are
still essential to our day-to-day lives.
River Habitats
7. A river bed may be stony or soft, lush with underwater
vegetation, murky and slow or cold and clear, but each
provides an ideal environment for different species and
different life stages.
River Habitats
8. River Habitats
An economy depends on their rivers for:
Food:: Irrigating crops. Electricity:
Generating hydro-electric power.
Transportation: Bringing grain, foods, oil,
and imports to market. Recreation and
Tourism: Providing significant economic boost
to waterfront areas.
10. River Habitat1. Explain what is a river in your own words.
2. Draw your own river.
3. Add 10 animal and plant life seen in your notes and Write down 9 in
your worksheet.
