1. Survey Feedback
I created a survey on Survey Monkey, this time asking for the opinions
on the final outcome of my magazine. I used a grid rating system so
that I could see how people thought about each aspect of each page,
then standard multi choice questions. I also included comments option
s on every question, so that people could give feedback. I had about 10
people fill out the survey, likely following the link from the various
social media I posted it on.
2. In terms of realistic content, quality aesthetic,
and overall professionalism, how would you rate
the magazine's front cover?(Scale of 1-5,
meaning 1 = poor, 5 = excellent)
All of the means are almost 5, meaning everyone rated the cover very highly,
and succeeded in all of the areas of conventions, particularly its authenticity.
Personally, I feel that the cover page was very successful and probably the
strongest page that I created, so I agree with the survey results.
3. In terms of realistic content, quality aesthetic, and
overall professionalism, how would you rate the
magazine's contents page?(Scale of 1-5, meaning
1 = poor, 5 = excellent)
The contents page also had very high scores of high 4’s, however the rating
for realistic content is the lowest. I agree with why this is because I know
that the contents didn’t have lots of images of people on, as most music
magazines do. It also wasn’t as bold and stark as other magazines may be,
so in both senses it wasn’t 100% realistic.
4. In terms of realistic content, quality aesthetic,
and overall professionalism, how would you rate
the magazine's double page introduction?(Scale
of 1-5, meaning 1 = poor, 5 = excellent)
The mean scores for this also are not under 4, but this time the rating for
aesthetic is the lowest. Once again, I can see why this may be, as the double
page introduction isn’t visually exciting because it isn’t bold or bright, so may
not have been enticing enough.
5. In terms of realistic content, quality aesthetic, and
overall professionalism, how would you rate the
magazine's double page spread?(Scale of 1-5,
meaning 1 = poor, 5 = excellent)
Finally, the double page spread had very strong results too. There were no
specific differences in the data here, however this surprises me as I found that
the DPS was slightly lacking in aesthetic quality. However, this may just be my
overcritical view of my own work, as clearly people liked it.
6. Do you think the overall magazine keeps
a consistent and convincing theme?
100% agreed that the magazine was very convincing - I was surprised but
grateful that there weren’t any ‘partially’ answers. I set out to make sure a
consistent colour scheme of dark purple, red and gold was sustained
throughout to match the photos, so I am glad the audience noticed its success.
7. Do you think the overall magazine is realistic
and reflects music magazines well?
Everyone responded with either partially or yes, so this feedback was very positive
and reassuring. I made sure I included all of the conventions of real magazines while
making Tempo, using real magazines as inspiration and references, so I am pleased
this showed through and succeeded at looking convincing.
8. Do you conform to my original target
audience age of 13-25?
I included this question as it was important to make sure my target audience
were questioned on the magazine that would have been aimed at them.
Linking to all the response ratings, they were all highly ranked showing that
the target audience did like the magazine, and was effective in that sense.
9. Finally, would you consider buying /
reading this magazine if it were real?
Because the music genre Tempo is based on, it would be hard to find people
who would legitimately be interested in it. However, I was surprised at the fact
the majority did say ‘yes’ and would read it. The ‘maybes’ and ‘nos’ are
completely excusable as I understand that the music type isn’t for everyone –
by leaving the survey open to anyone, it meant any interests may come into
account in the survey.
10. Opinion comments
I left feedback comment boxes at the end of each question. Here are the various
comments I received from people who took the survey:
Love the unusual photo composition (Q.1)
beautiful colours and reflections (Q.3)
very attractive and interesting/informative layout (Q.8)
The magazine isn‘t my type of music, but it looked really good! (Q.8)
The feedback is all positive, which means my magazine product has been very
successful in appearing appealing to an audience, as well as looking convincing
and having interesting content.
