Working Title:
The Disconnected
Audience:
My audience for my final major project has two different categories for my target audience. My
primary target audience would be males aged between 18-24 year olds. My secondary target
audiences would be males 25-44 years old. I chose to do a horror film, due to after creating a
survey the majority of responses were from males aged 18-24. From the survey, I asked the public
what their favourite genre film is. The majority responded horror, which made me believe this genre
will appeal to my target audience more effectively then creating a romance genre film. Whereas for
my secondary target audience, there social grade will be classed as: B/C1. This means they are
middle class, which means they are more consumable to the idea of bringing in a higher appeal
and more audience to the overall film. Also, they are more open about the idea of purchasing
merchandise and DVD’s. My audience will most likely appeal to heterosexuals, due to the percent
of populace being 95%. If i was to place my target audience on a lifestyle/ psychographic i would
class my primary audience as a emulator. This means they want to appear like achievers to the
opposite sex. Due to my film being a horror, by shocking the system and them appearing confident,
this will cause them to feel like they are attracting the opposite sex.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
This year I have developed many skills throughout my progress of each rotation. I have chosen to
specialise with print for this final project, because I feel like it will give me more experience and
valuable skills for the job I want in the future. With this year, I have developed my knowledge on
Photoshop, which has lead for my work to be more effective and accurate. This has also helped
with my time management due to knowing what each tool does and finding short cuts to do
different things. I have learnt how to use the cloning tool which has helped me with my image
positioning. This is because I can fill the background of the image, which means the image can be
more central and effective. This will be a useful tool for my final project because the image is an
important part of making my poster and DVD cover effective. Also, with being able to shrink the
image, I can make the model the size I want to which can add to the vulnerable effect a horror film
portrays.
I’ve also learnt how to masque text and images. This gives a transparent effect of a scenery on the
main subject. This tool adds more texture to photos which adds dimension to the overall photo.
This will be a useful tool for my final project because I am creating a horror film, which by adding
different depth and texture will create a scarier and more interest concept.
I have also learnt how to make the most effective use of my research. With creating more effective
research, it has helped with my production. This is because I understand the different features that
need including in different digital production post. For example: a DVD cover includes a title, a
picture, the production company, age restriction, special features and a blurb. By understanding
these features, I will make my work more effective and thought through.
Overall, I have learnt how to research and plan effectively which has helped with developing my
production work.

Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My project concept is a project of 4 different aspects. The first aspect I am wanting to develop is a
DVD cover. The genre I am going with is horror, this is because it’s the highest appealing genre for
my primary target audience. For this I need to gather my own photographs and then write up
context which implies to features like: the blurb and reviews. The research I have conducted for
this is looking at DVD covers and analyse the aspects included on it. For example: a DVD cover
includes a title, blurb, special features section and so on. From this research, it has helped me
picture the lay out of the DVD cover I am making.
The second aspect I am wanting develop is a poster for the film I am inventing. Again, the genre is
horror as it will link into the DVD cover. Again, for my poster I need to gather my own photographs
so that it is easier to edit due to being the right lighting and angles. This also helps me develop my
skills with a camera. The research I have conducted for this section, is to look into movie posters
and analyse what features are included and to look at the layout to help me visualise when it
comes to production.
The third aspect I am wanting to develop is merchandise for the film I am inventing. For this, I will
look into different franchises merchandises to see what the common trends are. From this, I can
analyse which is the common trend and apply it to my production work. I am going to make a t-shirt
and a toy due to these being the most highly demanding by target audience.
Lastly, the fourth aspect I am going to develop is the social media side. For this I am going to edit
different photos and develop teaser photos to post on a ‘social media page’ that I will create. This is
so it gives the audience regular updates and lets me experiment with different skills on Photoshop.
I felt like this would be an interesting concept to work with, especially for the genre being horror.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How I plan on evaluating my work is by creating production reflections each week. What this will
consist of is highlighting the tools I used to edit with and critic what I could improve on, as well as
what I did well. This will give me an idea on what I need to improve on in the future. Another
resource I will use to evaluate my work is weekly blog posts. This will cover every aspect I looked
at in the week and explain how I used certain tools. From this, I know what tools didn’t work for my
project and which did. This will help me execute my work more accurately which will lead to better
production work for my final major project.

Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
 1 Initial Response + Proposal The tasks I will carry out for this section is:
mind maps, mood board, mood board analysis and initial response.
 For the proposal, I will carry out audience research about social status to help specify my
target audience accurately. I will also make a clear statement of what I plan to create
throughout production. I will also reflect on different ways to evaluate my work.
 2 Product + Audience Research The task I will carry out for this, is to create a
survey and gather audience information so I can specifically create my project to their needs.
 I will also research into different production work which are similar to what I want to create.
This is so It helps me understand what features need to be included on each piece. As well as,
it helps with the lay out of the products I am creating.

 Production Experiments The tasks I will carry out is practicing photography,
Photoshop skills and typography. These are all aspects which are important for what I am
wanting to create.
 4 Pre-Production and Planning The task I will be carrying out is setting out
lay out plans for my project, looking into the health and safety of my project, creating a style
sheet and sorting out the locations of where I will be doing my photography. This will mean
booking out equipment and the studio.

 Production The first week of production I will be taking photos in the studio.
Another aspect I will concentrate on is photo shopping my photos and making them accurate
and prestige.

 Production The second week of production I will be concentrating on completing
my DVD cover and Poster in photoshop.

 Production The third week of production i will concentrate on looking
over my DVD cover/Poster and making sure it is constructed accurately. I will
also begin to develop my social media and merchandise.

 Production The fourth week of production i will concentrate on
completing my merchandise and social media page.

 Evaluation With my evaluation i will screen shot my existing work and
discuss how my time management, my accuracy, my planning and how my
whole project went. I will discuss the negatives and positives and discuss
where i need to improve.
 10 Development + Contingency With my development i will look over
my work and make sure it is to the standard i want it to be at. This will be time
to improve all my work.
