The document summarizes feedback from a survey of a band's target audience of 13-17 year olds on several media products, including a music video. The survey found that most respondents were male, as the band is male-led. Respondents responded positively to the music video, finding it "brilliant" and "charming" overall. Some suggested making the lead singer appear more masculine to appeal to male viewers. Respondents also felt the band's image and representation across products was effective at portraying their genre. However, the album cover design was not seen as appealing for in-store purchases in the genre.
2. AGE
My survey didn’t have a wide range of age responses, the
results are made up mostly of people aged 13-17. There
are some results from an older audience. This is okay as
the 13-17 age group is my target audience. By having my
target audience as the priority results I am able to see
how effective my media products are.
3. gender
A large percentage of my survey results are from males.
This was understandable, as being a male led band, it is
the males who will most prefer or relate to this video and
the band, in addition, 15-17 year old males were my
target audience. This demographic made up about 80%
of my results. This could present a problem as it means I
don’t have a wide range of results from females, so as to
know what needs to be changed or edited to make the
video more applicable for both genders.
4. Music video
My audience responded really well to this question. The
music video had high responsiveness and was generally
ranked quite high. It was said that it lacked a certain
amount of performance and lacked in story telling,
however, the video was viewed as “brilliant” and
“charming”. My target audience were certainly
impressed and it seems that my music video is up to the
expectations of my audience.
5. representation
This question asked for the audience to look at how my
video and other products displayed and represented my
bands image/age and other factors. Once again,
generally the results were positive. Most of the better
comments were from the females. It was suggested that
in the video I should have used some narrative showing
me as more masculine, rather than being mopey and sad
all the time, making me more relatable to the male
audience, however, the seriousness of these answers can
be questioned. The audience said my products do present
the genre, so it can be suggested that representation was
effective.
6. Product similarities
Once again my audience responded well to my products.
It was said that my products do tie in really well, it is
clear they are all linked, however, the website wasn’t
included in this question, and that is the media product
which I believed was the least similar to the other
products. The products were linked and the audience
realized and saw this, so the linking between my products
was very effective.
7. Advertising
Generally it was suggested that had they seen my album
in a store, my album wouldn't’t be purchased. Although
it is eye catching and bright it wasn’t the sort of album
cover the audience relates to the genre specifically, in
addition, a large percentage of people responded by
informing me that most of the buying now is done
online, seeing this album in ITunes they suggested they
would listen to the songs first.
