Komsomol's Lake in Marenici, Moldova was constructed in 1951-1952 but has since fallen into disrepair. In July 2006, over 3 tons of fish died due to pollution, prompting the government to drain and clean the lake. However, restoration efforts were plagued by delays, lack of funding, and incomplete work. As of September 2009, only 1-2 trucks were working to restore the 36 hectare lake, with no clear progress made since work began over 3 years prior.
