 Florida’s Historic Capitol is located in the city of
Tallahassee Florida. At the Capitol, offered by
museum staff, tours can be given upon request as
well as group programs with interactive activities.
 Address: 400 South Monroe Street
 Phone: (850)487-1902
 Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 9 am
til 4:30 pm. Saturdays 10 am til 4:30 pm and
Sundays/holidays with the exception of
Thanksgiving and Christmas 12 pm noon til 4:30
 Admission to the site is free!
 Florida’s Historic Capitol is a symbolic site. In
1826 moderate construction of the Capitol
building had begun. After being torn down, it
wasn’t until 1845 when the structure was
complete. In the late 1970s the Capitol building
faced danger of being annihilated but due to
civilian objection, the building was conserved
and restored to its 1902 appearance.
 The Capitol building illustrates many different
representations of Florida’s historical
government. Exhibits include the cabinet
meeting room, Florida before 1885, the senate
chamber, the Governor’s private office, etc. One
of the most denoting is the Civil Rights
demonstration. Photographs and factual info of
civil rights events and its prominent leaders can
be viewed. Civil rights played an important
role in the development of Florida’s ancient
government.

museum is a significant site of Florida’s
history. From its many different
exhibitions, one can acquire an broad
amount of knowledge of Florida and its
history. From displays to photographs
and interactive
visualizations/demonstrations, one can
learn of the many events and prominent
figures that shaped Florida's government
into what it is today.
