Application Layer in TCP/IP
2. TCP/IP MODEL
• It is a set of protocols developed to allow cooperating devices to share
resources across a network.
• TCP – Reliable delivery for messages.
IP – Manages the routing of network transmissions.
There are mainly 5 layers :-
1. Application Layer
2. Transport Layer
3. Network Layer
4. Data-Link Layer
5. Physical Layer
3. APPLICATION LAYER
• At the top of the Transport layer, the Application Layer is present in the TCP/IP
Model.
• Defines the procedure of interaction between the host applications and the protocols.
• SMTP, STP, HTTP, DNS, TELNET etc.
4. FUNCTIONS OF APPLICATION LAYER
• Provides access to global information about numerous services
and objects from distributed database sources.
• Identification of communication partners, communication
synchronization, and resource availability.
• Enables users to connect to a remote server.
• Establishing procedures for error recovery.
• Controlling data integrity.
