Proudly Present
4,300 km in 6 months!
Our Trailblazer
Matthew Brice’s grueling cycling journey will depart from Anjuna Beach in
Goa to the Southern tip of India and up the East coast via
Kolkata,
finishing in Varanasi in April 2014.
Man on a Mission
Cycle for Brighter Futures started rolling in 2012 when Matthew Brice, an
Australian national first experienced the lack of education and wrath of
poverty in India during a gruelling 4,000km cross country cycle.
It was during this life changing journey that Matt came across the work of
the Australian Children’s charity Forget Me Not and vowed to do what he
could to make a real and lasting change in the lives of some of India’s
neediest children.
This time the story is bigger, brighter and better! On November 14th, Matt
will commence a mammoth 4,300km cycle over 6 months with a fresh set of
equipment and a renewed mission - to establish the Brighter Futures Study
Centre in Delhi and abolish illiteracy in one of North India’s most poverty
stricken slum communities.
Our Mission
To give under-privileged children and their families a second chance at life
through quality education, vocational training and innovative, sustainable
community based initiatives.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which
you can use to change the world.”
Nelson Mandela
About Us
Lakshya Aakriti Foundation (LAF) is the face of a new generation of social
entrepreneurs in India, inspired by a group of young professionals passionate
about social justice and committed to making REAL and LASTING change in
the lives of underprivileged children and their families in slum communities.
In 2011 a new and exciting partnership was formed between LAF and the
Australian children’s charity Forget Me Not (FMN) to transform the lives of
some of North India’s most vulnerable children. In May 2012 projectHELP was
born - a groundbreaking community outreach program in aid of vulnerable
children living in appalling slum conditions on the outskirts of New
Delhi, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Hanumangarh (Rajasthan) and Bhagalpur
District (Bihar).
Our Next Project Destination will be
South India
After getting a gentle progress with our
Delhi Chapter we are now willing to
have our next project of Livelihood
Program and Brighter Future Education
Center for children in Tamil Nadu.

We are seeking Donors and uniting
Volunteers and Social workers to initiate
this desired project.

4,300kms of blood sweat and tears
to secure an educational future

for vulnerable children.”
Matthew Brice
4,300 km Green Journey
A Green Note from Matt
“I completed my studies in Environmental Science majoring in Biology and
Physical Geography. I have always been focused on the importance of
protecting the Environment, even as a child.
Living in Sydney, Australia I always used a cycle as my means of transport. Not
only is it the quickest and most efficient way to get around, but travelling on a
cycle removes one car from the street, cutting down on my own personal
carbon footprint and traveling green.
I come to India on my cycle with a similar motivation - to travel green, reduce
my carbon footprint and inspire others to do the same.
I also have a strong desire to live my life plastic free. In Australia I always
bring my own bags for shopping, buy food in bulk and even make my own
toothpaste to avoid the plastic packaging.

I will be traveling in India for 7 months = 230 days x 3 1L bottles per day
= 690 plastic bottles thrown away!
Solution - I will be using a carbon and glass micro filter to filter tap water to
remove bacteria and protozoa, then treat the water with a UV sterilization
pen to destroy any viruses.
These two small steps will allow me to reduce my impact on the environment
whilst traveling in India, helping to make my journey a little greener.”

Corporate Social Responsibility
The very foundation of Lakshya Aakriti Foundation is laid on the collective
Realization by LAF Trustees that it is our social responsibility to give back to
society.
Corporate Social Responsibility has become increasingly popular in recent
years, delivering a huge social return on investment against traditional
marketing methods.
The value of partnering with LAF in this unique campaign lies in our
successful
working
model
–
innovation, inspiration, sustainability, accountability and leadership.
Become a LAF corporate partner through sponsorship and/or the provision
of vocational skills training for children over 16 and join us in changing the
destiny of children born into poverty.
Do Well By Doing Good
Cause Related Marketing (CRM) is a strategic marketing tool that effectively
links a company/brand to a social cause or issue for mutual benefit.
Corporate philanthropy plays a pivotal role in attracting today’s increasingly
hard to please consumers. Consumers really notice a company’s commitment
to a worthy cause, preferring a brand that stands for something beyond just
profits.
With cause related marketing as part of your strategy you will enjoy increased
sales, added visibility, consumer loyalty, improved company image and
positive media coverage.
“If corporations were to analyze the prospects for social
responsibility using the same frameworks that guide
their core business choices, they would discover that
CSR can be much more than a cost, an obligation or a
charitable deed - it can be the source of opportunity,
innovation and competitive advantage”
Reputation is used by many companies to justify CSR
initiatives on the grounds that they improve a
companies image, strengthen it’s brand, enliven morale
and even raise the value of it’s stock”
Harvard Business Review

efficiently, achieving measurable results and being 100% accountable to
sponsors, stakeholders and donors.
 An internal and external audit of accounting records is conducted every

year for submission to governing Board Members and Australian funding
partners.

available to all members of the Governing Board and funding partners at
the closure of each financial year.
The Situation
India as a nation suffers intense poverty and on the streets, children are
extremely vulnerable to abuse and corruption.
Delhi is home to an estimated 17.3 million people with 52 percent of the
population residing in urban slums. Although India's economy is growing
and millions are prospering, the benefits are not reaching the slum
dwellers and the gap between rich and poor is growing ever wider.
Like Mumbai, the slums of Delhi are overcrowded, unsafe environments
for children and lack the most basic amenities such as clean drinking
water and adequate sanitation.
Children living in slum communities in India are extremely vulnerable
to chronic malnourishment, life threatening disease, child
trafficking, sexual abuse and child labour.
We believe that quality education and empowering communities at
the grass roots level is the key to changing vulnerable children’s lives
for the better, forever. Real and lasting change CAN be brought about
by the positive actions of many - one child at a time.
"Education is a human right with immense
power to transform. On its foundation rest the
cornerstones of freedom, democracy and
sustainable human development.“
Kofi Anan
Education is ultimately the children’s way out of this dangerous and uncertain life,
while empowering the families through vocational training and the chance to secure
employment provides a long term, sustainable solution to the unbelievable hardship
faced daily by these communities.
Our Commitment
LAF will work in all possible directions and by all possible means to give
disadvantaged children a second chance. We are committed to providing the
best possible education and nurturing the talents of the most vulnerable
children to ensure they grow up understanding the beauty of life, motivated
to help others in need in the future.
“If we are to teach real peace in this world and if we are to carry on a
real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.”
Mohandas Gandhi

Cycle for brighter future tamil nadu, alampoondi village event dated 15 FEB 2014

  • 3.
  • 4. 4,300 km in 6 months!
  • 6. Matthew Brice’s grueling cycling journey will depart from Anjuna Beach in Goa to the Southern tip of India and up the East coast via Kolkata, finishing in Varanasi in April 2014.
  • 7. Man on a Mission Cycle for Brighter Futures started rolling in 2012 when Matthew Brice, an Australian national first experienced the lack of education and wrath of poverty in India during a gruelling 4,000km cross country cycle. It was during this life changing journey that Matt came across the work of the Australian Children’s charity Forget Me Not and vowed to do what he could to make a real and lasting change in the lives of some of India’s neediest children. This time the story is bigger, brighter and better! On November 14th, Matt will commence a mammoth 4,300km cycle over 6 months with a fresh set of equipment and a renewed mission - to establish the Brighter Futures Study Centre in Delhi and abolish illiteracy in one of North India’s most poverty stricken slum communities.
  • 8. Our Mission To give under-privileged children and their families a second chance at life through quality education, vocational training and innovative, sustainable community based initiatives.
  • 9. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
  • 10. About Us Lakshya Aakriti Foundation (LAF) is the face of a new generation of social entrepreneurs in India, inspired by a group of young professionals passionate about social justice and committed to making REAL and LASTING change in the lives of underprivileged children and their families in slum communities. In 2011 a new and exciting partnership was formed between LAF and the Australian children’s charity Forget Me Not (FMN) to transform the lives of some of North India’s most vulnerable children. In May 2012 projectHELP was born - a groundbreaking community outreach program in aid of vulnerable children living in appalling slum conditions on the outskirts of New Delhi, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Hanumangarh (Rajasthan) and Bhagalpur District (Bihar).
  • 11. Our Next Project Destination will be South India After getting a gentle progress with our Delhi Chapter we are now willing to have our next project of Livelihood Program and Brighter Future Education Center for children in Tamil Nadu. • 17. “I am cycling around India to raise funds for The Brighter Futures Study Centre - 4,300kms of blood sweat and tears to secure an educational future for vulnerable children.” Matthew Brice
  • 18. 4,300 km Green Journey
  • 19. A Green Note from Matt “I completed my studies in Environmental Science majoring in Biology and Physical Geography. I have always been focused on the importance of protecting the Environment, even as a child. Living in Sydney, Australia I always used a cycle as my means of transport. Not only is it the quickest and most efficient way to get around, but travelling on a cycle removes one car from the street, cutting down on my own personal carbon footprint and traveling green. I come to India on my cycle with a similar motivation - to travel green, reduce my carbon footprint and inspire others to do the same.
  • 20. I also have a strong desire to live my life plastic free. In Australia I always bring my own bags for shopping, buy food in bulk and even make my own toothpaste to avoid the plastic packaging. I will be traveling in India for 7 months = 230 days x 3 1L bottles per day = 690 plastic bottles thrown away! Solution - I will be using a carbon and glass micro filter to filter tap water to remove bacteria and protozoa, then treat the water with a UV sterilization pen to destroy any viruses. These two small steps will allow me to reduce my impact on the environment whilst traveling in India, helping to make my journey a little greener.”

  • 43. Do Well By Doing Good Cause Related Marketing (CRM) is a strategic marketing tool that effectively links a company/brand to a social cause or issue for mutual benefit. Corporate philanthropy plays a pivotal role in attracting today’s increasingly hard to please consumers. Consumers really notice a company’s commitment to a worthy cause, preferring a brand that stands for something beyond just profits. With cause related marketing as part of your strategy you will enjoy increased sales, added visibility, consumer loyalty, improved company image and positive media coverage.
  • 44. “If corporations were to analyze the prospects for social responsibility using the same frameworks that guide their core business choices, they would discover that CSR can be much more than a cost, an obligation or a charitable deed - it can be the source of opportunity, innovation and competitive advantage” Reputation is used by many companies to justify CSR initiatives on the grounds that they improve a companies image, strengthen it’s brand, enliven morale and even raise the value of it’s stock” Harvard Business Review

  • 49. The Situation India as a nation suffers intense poverty and on the streets, children are extremely vulnerable to abuse and corruption. Delhi is home to an estimated 17.3 million people with 52 percent of the population residing in urban slums. Although India's economy is growing and millions are prospering, the benefits are not reaching the slum dwellers and the gap between rich and poor is growing ever wider. Like Mumbai, the slums of Delhi are overcrowded, unsafe environments for children and lack the most basic amenities such as clean drinking water and adequate sanitation.
  • 50. Children living in slum communities in India are extremely vulnerable to chronic malnourishment, life threatening disease, child trafficking, sexual abuse and child labour. We believe that quality education and empowering communities at the grass roots level is the key to changing vulnerable children’s lives for the better, forever. Real and lasting change CAN be brought about by the positive actions of many - one child at a time.
  • 51. "Education is a human right with immense power to transform. On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom, democracy and sustainable human development.“ Kofi Anan
  • 52. Education is ultimately the children’s way out of this dangerous and uncertain life, while empowering the families through vocational training and the chance to secure employment provides a long term, sustainable solution to the unbelievable hardship faced daily by these communities.
  • 53. Our Commitment LAF will work in all possible directions and by all possible means to give disadvantaged children a second chance. We are committed to providing the best possible education and nurturing the talents of the most vulnerable children to ensure they grow up understanding the beauty of life, motivated to help others in need in the future.
  • 54. “If we are to teach real peace in this world and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.” Mohandas Gandhi
  • 55. Help Us Help Them Approximately eighteen million children live or work on the streets of India. Source: Human Rights Watch
  • 56.
