The document discusses how God cannot be fully understood or defined by formulas. It tells the story of Elijah confronting false prophets of Baal and then fleeing into the wilderness due to threats against his life. While in the wilderness, Elijah has a pity party but is fed by an angel. God appears to Elijah and tells him that just because Elijah cannot see God's plans does not mean God is not working according to His purposes, which are beyond human understanding. The document advocates focusing on God rather than losing sight of Him.

Wednesday - A Wild Encounter - God Is Unpredictable
1.
2. GOD IS NOT ABOUT Formulas!!
• Remember…
• GOD can’t be computed,
described, comprehended,
or completely understood…
– No formula for God…
– …and God isn’t bound by
formulas (i.e: cause = effect)
• Isaiah 55:8 – “My thoughts
are not your thoughts;
neither are your ways My
ways, says the LORD.”
• Mr. Beaver says, “He’s not
safe! But He’s good…”

5. Elijah (prophet of God) confronts
Ahab & Jezebel on worshiping
false god Baal.
• Elijah has showdown with 400
prophets of Baal
– “My Almighty God is more
awesome than your, um, ‘god’…”
• The Lord God Almighty showed
up BIG; Baal…not so much…
– Water soaked sacrifice incinerated
by God Himself
• Elijah had all 400 prophets of Baal
killed right there on the spot!
• I’m being used by God! I’m God’s
man! Yeehaw!!
6. • Jezebel ticked that her prophets
are dead, and that Elijah did it.
– Back atcha Elijah – by tomorrow,
you’re toast!
• Elijah “forgets to remember”;
loses his focus on the Lord;
gets caught up in a “ME Focus”
– Hands…
• Elijah – scared for his life -
hightails it outta town…running,
running…
• Elijah has pity party #1 in the
wilderness
– “It is enough Lord, take my life”,
etc
• God sends angel (2x) to feed
Elijah.
– “Elijah travels on the strength of
this food” for 40 days & nights to
Mount Horeb
7. • God says “What are you doing here Elijah?”
• Pity party #2 – God, you aren’t doing your job here?!?! (ME-focus)
• 11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for
the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before
the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but
the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD
was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he
pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?“
• God showing that He doesn’t always work in the showy, spectacular way (like Elijah
had just experienced with the prophets of Baal>>>He’s unpredictable, no?).
– BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD…
– Know that I have a plan – a perfect plan – even if you don’t understand it…and often you
won’t
• Pity Party #3 – But, I’ve been zealous for the Lord…and I’m the only one! (ME!)
• God says – I’ve been at work protecting others who haven’t bowed to Baal – 7,000 in fact.
You are not alone. (Elijah couldn’t have predicted that!).
– God is not always working just in the “seen” realm…
11. • Says that at age 8, he prayed
for God to grow him arms
and legs…
– God said, “I certainly could,
but…”
– Nick said, “I don’t need arms &
legs, Lord.”
• Now 26 years old; world
renowned speaker &
evangelist
• “Pretty cool that a man with
no arms & no legs would be
chosen by God to the hands
and feet of Jesus.”
12. • Does that mean that He is random?
• Does that mean He doesn’t have a plan?
– NO.
– Just means WE can’t see what’s coming and WE don’t see the
puzzle BOX TOP.
• Don’t lose your focus (HAND TRICK)
• God is ALWAYS at work
– Romans 8:28 – “And we know that God causes all things to
work together for good to those who love God and are called
according to His purpose.”
• As Jesus followers, this verse is true for us – even if it doesn’t
immediately “feel” like it – FOCUS your eyes on Christ.
