To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter in hope of obtaining a full time package engineering position at Ford. I am
currently a senior at Michigan State University with an expected graduation date of December
2013. While attending school I have paid for all of my personal expenses and college tuition
independently. I have done this by maintaining a part time job while taking classes’ full time
throughout my 4 years of school. Working and taking classes simultaneously not only taught me
the true value of a college degree, but it forced me to become accustomed to multitasking,
balancing a workload, and prioritizing objectives. If granted this position, I would not only utilize
these skills, but also the skills I have obtained from the two internships I have completed.
In January of 2012 I was granted the opportunity to take a 6-month co-op internship with Henkel
of North America located in Scottsdale, Arizona. While at Henkel, I worked in the Package Testing
Lab and conducted package testing on new product launches for the upcoming year. A majority of
my time was also spent managing projects and packaging development for 17 SKU’s within the
Schwarzkopf and Henkel brands. Some of my duties included collaborating and meeting with
suppliers, involvement in cross-functional projects, and creating and revising packaging
specifications. During the 6 months I spent and at Henkel I was able to utilize the fundamentals of
packaging I learned in school, while building upon them through real life experience in a
competitive corporate atmosphere for the first time. My experience at Henkel was above and
beyond what I anticipated and installed the passion for packaging that I carry today.
In May of 2013 I accepted a co-op position with Dow AgroSciences located in Indianapolis, IN.
Having already completed an internship with a consumer goods company, I was looking to
diversify my experiences across industries and build upon the knowledge and skills that I
previously obtained. Utilizing the experiences and skills I gained from Henkel, I wasn’t as shy to
voice my opinions or concerns on subject matters in my new position. During my time at Dow I
have worked on a multitude of projects ranging from supporting and providing packaging
expertise on product launches, creating and designing 3-D drawings, writing and revising
specifications, and leading a number of projects on my own. With my past experiences and
acquired skill set, I am seeking a position that would allow me to perform and excel in a
challenging and career-oriented environment, one such that I believe Ford offers.
