4. Porcelain Veneers = Prep
Some tooth preparation is required
for porcelain veneers. While
incredibly thin, traditional veneers
would protrude from the smile if a
small amount of tooth enamel was not
removed before their placement.
It is important to remember that once
tooth enamel has been removed, it will
not grow back. After veneers have
been placed, your teeth will need to
remain covered with veneers or dental
bonding. However, maintaining ideal
aesthetics and optimal dental comfort
is easy with veneers. They can be
replaced individually, as needed, and
often last for 10 or more years.
5. Lumineers® = No Prep
Thinner than porcelain veneers,
Lumineers do not require any tooth
preparation. This makes them more
attractive to patients who wish to
minimize treatment time and preserve
all of their natural tooth structure.
Because they are thinner, Lumineers
may not be as effective in treating
more pronounced cosmetic
imperfections. Large spaces and gaps,
discoloration caused by fluorosis,
medication, or years of tobacco use,
and other highly noticeable cosmetic
problems may continue to show
underneath these thinner veneers.

7. Proper Care
Proper care of porcelain veneers and
Lumineers® is essential for their
continued durability. Fortunately, the
most effective ways to protect your
veneers are likely very similar to what
you are already doing.
Ideal veneer care requires:
Brushing teeth after every meal with
a soft-bristled toothbrush and
nonabrasive toothpaste.
Flossing at least once a day. Twice is
ideal.
Visiting our office every six months
for professional cleanings and
examinations.
8. Ease of Replacement
Porcelain veneers and Lumineers® are
customized to match adjacent teeth in
size, shape, and color. When a veneer
of either type needs to be replaced, the
same great care is taken to ensure the
continued perfection of your smile.
You can help prevent damaging your
veneers by using a toothpaste that is
nonabrasive and a toothbrush with
softer bristles. Avoid chewing ice or
biting hard candy, and keep non-food
items out of your mouth to help ensure
the longest lasting results from you
individual veneers.
