2. Importance of energy
Many objects around us work on electrical energy, heat
energy e.t.c.
Energy helps us improve the quality of our life.
It supports economic competitiveness.
Development of energy generates employment.

3. Need to conserve energy
The world’s consumption of energy has increased a lot
over the last few years.
This has depleted natural resources of crude oil, petrol
e.t.c.
If the world’s energy consumption continues at the
current rate, many of the world’s resources would get
over as coal and crude oil take millions of years to
form.

4. Simple ways to conserve energy
At home: 1. Replace old light bulbs with efficient ones.
2. Switch off air conditioners when not
necessary.
3. Switch off electrical appliances when not
needed.
In the car: 1. Keep tires properly inflated.
2. Drive slowly.
3. Avoid abrupt starts.
4. Make minimum use of the air conditioner.
