2. Introduction
In the fall semester of 2016, I was given the opportunity
to intern at Excel Rehabilitation & Sports Enhancement
in Seneca, South Carolina.
I went to the clinic three days per week for eight hours
each day and worked as a Clinical Aide. I performed
various duties including cleaning, assisting in therapy
sessions, and observing the physical therapists there.
This presentation gives an overview of my awesome
experience at Excel.
3. Internship Site- Excel Rehab & Sports
Excel is an outpatient clinic for physical, occupational, and
hand therapy.
I worked in all departments, but my primary focus was to
learn about physical therapy.
Excel treats all age groups, but PT focuses on general
orthopedics and sports injuries.
Excel has three locations. They are in Clemson, Easley, and
Seneca. I interned in Seneca, which is their newest site,
which opened in 2015.
4. Mission Statements:
“Patients and their families know Quality Care
when they experience it. It's a result of Great
People and Skills, and Excel has BOTH...There
Is a Difference”
“Our hands-on care, delivered by licensed,
skilled and compassionate therapists, is
unmatched. At Excel Rehab & Sports, ‘Being
Our Best To Make You Better’ is a challenge we
accept daily – it is our Patient First Mission.”
Goals are to Innovate, Educate, Perform, and
Heal

pillowcase.
14. Project
I did an in-depth case study of a patient at Excel during
my time there.
I chose to investigate a patient who recently had his
Achilles tendon repaired. I chose this because I thought
it was different and interesting and because this patient
started coming to therapy right when I started my
internship. I got to know this patient well and was really
familiar with his case.
In order to complete this study, I observed treatment
sessions, collected notes, and did research on Achilles
tendon repairs. I then wrote a report about what I
learned and how the patient progressed through
therapy.
15. Conclusion
This internship was an awesome experience for me. I
learned so much about what it is like to be a physical
therapist in an outpatient orthopedic setting. My
favorite part of my internship was the relationships I got
to build with the patients and seeing them make
progress.
This internship helped solidify my decision to go into
physical therapy. I can see myself coming back to work
at Excel as a PT one day!
Because of the success of my internship I am now
working there as a paid aide for the rest of the school
year.
