Bi-modal IT– according to Gartner
• Major Drivers of Bi-Modal IT Siloes: DevOps & ALM
• To embrace change quickly with Agile Cloud-based Development, Gartner advocated Bi-Modal IT:
• Bi-Modal IT Mode 1 is predictable, and stable, linear, using traditional waterfall-based ALM methods/tools/processes
• Bi-Modal IT Mode 2 is Agile, relatively unstable, non-linear, cloud-based based on the mantra: “Fail fast, Recover fast,
and if successful, go to market quickly”. This mode in the DevOps world assumes that new technologies are brought
in, tested fast, and discarded if failed, but launched quickly across all markets if successful.
Good initially, but….
• The Problems with Bi-Modal IT
• Bi-Modal IT inherently means two teams, two processes, two sets of resources and two different ways of thinking,
and somehow these converge in the end. Achieving agility with Bi-Modal IT thus comes at a cost, siloes impeding
innovation, with the legacy back office systems and potential team conflicts.
• The Solution: Concurrent Multi-Modal IT with Cross-functional teams !

How to Gain Maximum Value from 5G Automation
Benefits of the new Digital Transformation solution:
Integrated workflow automation for ALM and DevOps
solutions, for dynamic launching of solutions: App
middleware, IoT analytics, Rules Escalations, etc., all in real-
time
Newer dashboards for analytics: IoT devices, but application
analytics as well
Enhanced traceability of all development, test as well as
tracing across applications, networks and endpoint devices,
ideally with resiliency maintained,
Increased productivity by leveraging automation, APIs, s/w
bus connectors, and better KPIs/metrics shared across
ALM/DevOps teams
Integrated Security and Privacy controls are holistically
engineered within the solutions
