The written statement for my typology project in my photography class

Typology Statement
When we first discussed what typology is in class, I was really excited about the project! It’s
so neat that with typology, it’s pretty much all about comparing and contrasting the same
items but showing how they can all be so very different from each other. I had so many ideas,
but I ultimately went with water bottles. At first, I took some photos of people’s bathroom sinks,
but that was kind of annoying and difficult with having to go to people’s homes just in order
to take pictures. So after trying that, I decided on going with photographing people’s water
bottles, since that has worked out a lot better and more conveniently than sinks. Water bottles
also work really well with typology, since there are so many different water bottles, but they all
essentially serve the same purpose, even with there being so many different variations and kinds
of water bottles. With my typology project, the viewer can indirectly learn about and perhaps
even make assumptions about the personalities of the owners of the water bottles. Even
though the audience doesn’t see the person’s face, one can learn a lot about a person based on
what’s in the image, and that’s really interesting to me. In all of my images, I made sure that all
of the water bottles in the frames were the most perfectly straight that I could get them.
Since this is typology, the same framing throughout—if not, as similar as possible— really
helps emphasize all of the items in the images of a typology project, since typology is ultimately
about the items being photographed.
