1. Wearing Other People’s
Shoes
Read the stories. Put yourself in each person’s place.
How would you feel? What could you say or do to show that you
care?

2. Manny
Manny is five.
His big brother threw
his new toy in the lake.
How would you feel?
What would you do if
you were Manny?
What would you do to
help if you were there?

3. Sarah
Sarah is seven.
She did not go to
school today.
Today is her class field
trip to the zoo but she
cannot go because
she is sick.
How would you feel if
you were Sarah?
What would you do if
you were in her class?

4. Jacob
Jacob is a grown man.
He works far away from
his family. His children do
not get to see him often.
How would you feel if
you were Jacob?
How would you feel if
you were his children?
What would you do to
help Jacob and his
family?

5. Nina
Nina is two.
Today is her first time at
the beach. The waves
are big. One wave
knocked her down.
What would you do if
you saw Nina crying?
How would you help
Nina?

6. Children
Around the world,
many children do not
have shoes to wear
or food to eat.
How would you feel?
What could you do
to help these
children?

7. 5 steps to empathy
1. Look at their body
language.
2. Remember your feelings.
3. Imagine how you would
feel.
4. Ask how they are doing or
listen to what they say.
5. Show them that you care
by saying something nice or
doing something to help.
You can make a difference!
