I had a chance to meet with a
variety of people within Sanofi
and asked questions to better
understand their background
and positions, as well as the
path they took to get into their
current role. In terms of helpful
advice, I have received plenty
about networking and keeping
in touch with people you have
connected with; often connec-
tions will help new opportuni-
ties present themselves. Addi-
tionally, I learned that I may
not end up where I expect and
a typical career path is more of
a zigzag than linear, and based
on where I excel and my inter-
ests my career will likely adapt.
In the future, I hope to gain
experience closer to my engi-
neering background, and work
in R&D and product develop-
ment. This goal aligns closely
with my interest in biology and
chemistry, and my desire to
make a positive, tangible im-
pact on others lives makes it a
good fit.
I hope to gain more experience
with Sanofi in the future, and
thank you to all of those that
made this experience so great
for me!
This summer I had the pleas-
ure of interning in the Clinical
Studies Unit under Emily Walk-
er, CSU Attaché. I am a rising
junior at Lehigh University en-
rolled in the Integrated Busi-
ness and Engineering Honors
program, and will earn both a
B.S. in Integrated Business and
Engineering and a B.S. in Bio-
engineering within 5 years.
During the duration of my in-
ternship, I was fortunate
enough to be exposed to a
variety of different elements
within the CSU. My primary
assignments dealt with data
analysis and data visualization,
though I also worked in devel-
oping resources for manage-
ment. I attended meetings
frequently with my manager
which gave me insight into the
various projects and responsi-
bilities of many individuals in
the CSO. Additionally, I had
one-on-one talks with several
individuals to gain a better
understanding of potential
career opportunities and made
beneficial connections.
In terms of project work, I
helped develop tools for upper
level management to be able
to see the CSU and respective
countries from a bird’s eye
view. Additionally, I performed
a multi-level analysis of clinical
trial site performance which
included organizing data at the
country, therapeutic area, and
study level. In order to better
understand the cause of non-
performance, I looked at the
relationship between new and
nonperforming sites, and also
tried to quantify what we ex-
pect of sites versus how they
perform.
I was given the opportunity to
solve problems and find solu-
tions hands on. I was never,
during the course of this intern-
ship, given a list of instructions
on how to compete a task.
Instead I was able to use my
own discretion and skills to try
and complete something on my
own. This fostered adaptive
learning, for the way I ap-
proached a problem in the
beginning of the summer is
entirely different to what I
would do today. With every
mistake or misstep I learned
how to make the process more
effective. On top of that, I was
able to make actionable rec-
ommendations regarding my
conclusions, something I am
very grateful for as an intern. I
am lucky to know that my as-
sessments were heard and
