Program One: Adobe Premiere Pro CC
• Pros Of Premiere
• Premiere as a program itself is the one I'm most familiar with overall, I have done most of the
work that I have produced whilst in college using this program and at times have preferred to do
audio on it as Auditions over complex layout and unnecessarily difficult to navigate dashboard
have often proved to be its own downfall.
• Premiere is also the ideal software to edit and make sure the piece is cut and mixed with the
audio well, its layout is easy to navigate and if not you can change up the dashboard quite easily
with a few click and drags across to different areas these provide the piece enough room to be
split into multiple sections.
• Premiere is also one of their better experiences to edit and render videos filmed off cameras or
anything similar it has been a reliable program for a long time and is an enjoyable experience to
work in.
Adobe Premiere Pro CC Continued…
• Cons Of Premiere
• The bad things about premiere are limited but they still exist, the issue is mainly that the software
itself isn't up to date as much as maybe its competitors such as OBS Studio and Sony Vegas which
utilize the rapid changes that video editing often experiences during the years in which the
software is created this is why there are very often more versions of video editing software than
there is for others and it is also the reason why people prefer certain year editions to that of
others.
• The age problem of the 2017 editions isn't bad when looking at the program itself, but when
compared to other content creation programs of years such as 2019 or 2020 versions of OBS
Studio it gets massively dwarfed and whilst these programs also have got their issues its nothing
too major just preferences between programs.
Program Two: OBS Studio
• Pros Of OBS Studio:
• OBS is used to screen capture as it is one of the best programs to do so it is also a good editing
software for this type of content, its one take potential is great for the type of content that I want
to produce it also has got a very easily accessible and reliable saving option which makes
revisiting pieces a lot easier and not stressful to create or change after you’ve closed the program.
• OBS also allows users to record in high frame rates with no premium or anything like that being
necessary it also utilizes either a high refresh rate such as 144hz being absolutely possible using
this software meaning your getting as good as possible out of a program that costs absolutely
nothing.
OBS Studio Continued…
• Cons Of OBS Studio
• OBS doesn’t have a fantastic editing focus however which whilst the previously mentioned points
allow the program a very high one take potential it also provides a poor editing software in
comparison this means that the one take is almost necessary if you want to record and edit in the
same software obviously this is not the only option we have and we can use another software to
edit however this is one of the downfalls of OBS on a whole.
• OBS has been utilized in various fields but is most often used in the content creation industry for
screen recording the ease of use of this way of doing it creates OBS as being a great program
however the high refresh rate capabilities make the program a little more difficult to maneuver
especially when the programs layout itself isn't too great although it isn't bad either.
Program Three: Sony Vegas
• Pros Of Sony Vegas:
• Sony Vegas was the highest esteemed editing software when YouTube first started to take off just
like BandiCam was the highest level of screen recording until the programs premium offers
eventually led to Streamlabs and OBS overtaking the program, Sony still have a whole bunch of
editions of the program and the program still hold its own but is overwhelmingly overlooked by
creators in favor for Adobes most recent version of Premiere Pro.
• Sony Vegas is a very easy software to navigate as well as being able to hold its own when editing
the programs maneuverability is quite an asset and I would probably say it has got the easiest way
of moving things around and creating due to its purely basic design however in comparison to
other editing programs this is likely to be where the positives stop.
Sony Vegas Continued…
• Cons Of Sony Vegas:
• Sony Vegas has been on a slow decline for a little while and has nit necessarily seen many big
results over the past few years especially due to everyone's emigration over to Adobe Premiere
Pro and even though Adobes experience s a premium one the software has the same factor as its
compatriot, Adobe Photoshop which is also a premium software but is paid for by many people
on a yearly basis with the sales figures for the piece being through the roof.
• People’s use for Sony Vegas, with the introduction of Adobe Premiere or at least the arrival of the
technology that the program introduced to the editing software market itself, has been limited
this is due to the amount of technological steps the introduction of Adobe actually created for
video editors and this began a movement away from Sony Vegas, Premiere’s workshop was also a
huge difference maker as previously Sony had premium mixes available but didn't allow mods and
premiere allowed people to use them if they had the full version already bought.
Program Four: Apple iMovie
• The Automated program for video editing that comes along with the MAC range of pieces is one
of the best video editing softwares purely due to its incredible utilization of the system it works in
as with other programs the system is not always utilized to be worked inside of due to the range
of specs a computer with a Microsoft OS or anything else could actually have inside it, however
the MAC OS is built to serve the model its been designed for therefore all the programs are also
far more utilized to be used inside the system , this creates a far greater experience overall in the
program itself.
• This being said, the program itself has a few issues the main one being its matter of exclusivity to
apple products, meaning for the full version on MAC it would cost around £1500 making it the
most expensive option if your starting without a MAC itself this can of course be worked around
as it is available on a much smaller scale on other apple products such as the IPad and IPhone
whilst not a brilliant alternative it would be one of very few.
Program Five: DaVinci Resolve
• This program is one I'm not entirely familiar with however from using it for a little bit and
exploring its features a little more I can say that this software is fantastic and for the price of £0 it
doesn't get much better, usually there are certain restrictions in place however the BlackMagic
program has very minimal and the ones that they do have for the free version are things that
people far more experienced would be looking for such as a quicker render speed and a higher
than 1440p export option, however both of these are not difference makers for me as I'm not
fussed about render speed or resolution.
• DaVinci feels like a slightly slower version of Premiere which is no easy feat infact Premiere is
likely the best on market option for video editing itself so to only be slower but match most other
aspects the program has done extremely well. The program also handles fantastically as well this
is one of the areas where it closely competes with Premiere as one of premieres features is that
the dashboard is extremely customizable, this is the same case with DaVinci and it provides for a
smooth and easier experience.
Program Six: FL Studio
• As audio will be a huge part of the piece I will eventually use the information I'm researching I felt
it necessary to analyze and look at a few programs that could help with the audio side of things
should I need to move to an external program to work on that, and my overwhelming favorite for
working on audio is that of FL or FruityLoops though a predominantly Sound creating app FL can
be used for so many different pieces of work including mixing and application of audio and voice.
• FL is one of the best programs I have ever worked in and is in my eyes the peak of audio creation
technology and combined with Adobe Audition becomes a really good and productive space to
work in as both programs are fairly simplistic and can be mastered over an amount of time, most
of the audio creation software's have been hit and miss for many years, with previous versions of
FL not actually being too great but having no rivals made the industry picture for the programs an
easy scene to fix and low and behold FL did just that and dragged the rest of the industry with it,
over the last few years FL has gained many serious competitors and have consistently made their
programs better and better.
Program Seven: VSDC
• VSDC comes in as a very basic software which is ideal for doing simple video editing which luckily
for VSDC is all we and many other people need to do both the free and advanced versions leave a
bit to be desired from a piece of software that does hold its own in the basics but the second that
it begins to be compared to other programs even in the advanced conversation this program
falters, this is purely due to its lack of features beyond cutting and basic editing features, this lets
down the program.
• This isn't to say VSDC, is not a bad piece of software but it is slightly outdated this isn't to say it
doesn't have its own individual perks, with things such as a screen capture feature that ports
directly back to the software and a wide range of informational videos explaining features should
you ever need them this makes for a good piece of software but some way off its direct
competition however I have a feeling the point of VSDC isn't necessarily to compete but rather to
be an alternative and the main thing that infers this is its price point for the full version which sits
at around £18 UKS or $20 USD in comparison to Premiere($240) or IMovie($1500) this gives some
information into where the company priorities may lie and I have a feeling its not with VSDC.
Program Eight: GarageBand
• GarageBand is one of my alternatives as with audio creation its fairly unlikely I will be able to use
a program such as FL when in the building so I have to look around for some in building
alternatives at my disposal and in this case it happens to be GarageBand, the program itself is a
good one but has got to be used on an apple device and whilst the college computers do actually
have GarageBand this does mean that sound creation would be suspended when I was doing
weeks from home, this means I will likely be doing all the in building audio creation work on
GarageBand learning something new and then all the out of college work on sound creation on
FruityLoops.
• This is then able to spread the work between both the building itself and the work at home in the
virtual weeks therefore nothing is put on hold due to a lack of resources although it is important
to point out that this is extremely circumstantial and may not work for everyone.
Analysis Of Program Choices - Video
• In the end, the choice I'm likely to make is to use DaVinci purely because I have used premiere a
lot in the past and want to look to use something new and DaVinci seems to be the ideal
challenge to both learn and utilize to complete what I want to wit the projects over the next
couple of months, for me this seems like the right choice as the program itself is the closest to
Premiere that I have access to both inside the college building but also at the setup back at home
as its accessible for free, this is a vital part of the project going ahead during the pandemic as
having the opportunity to work on it on the same program between both home and here so for
the progression and the ease of access DaVinci seems like a no brainer.
• The ability to use this program to not only create the content but also edit it is also very useful
this is why I have a preferred DaVinci to OBS as both the capture and the editing is not possible
using that as a software. There is a possibility I will still use OBS to capture the piece I need to for
the vlog itself however this is not a yes or no it simply depends whether I'm on my home setup or
on a college piece at the time.
Analysis Of Program Choices - Audio
• As far as audio goes its very likely that I will use the audio tools from Premiere to edit and put it
together and then transfer into DaVinci at the end, the audio tool I will be using for sound
creation if necessary will be FruityLoops, this is the software I use at home to create music
therefore whilst the price point of FL is kind of ridiculous if you were just using it for a one off
school project as I use it fairly consistently I will be doing my audio creation using that software.
• However this is not to say that I will not explore other programs such as GarageBand and
SoundTrap these are two pieces of software that fascinate me as I have never used the
consistently but I am aware of how good the programs themselves actually are, this in itself
presents an interesting challenge of whether to stick to what I know or explore both programs
restrictions and what they can contribute to a piece I create. For example I could use GarageBand
to create a few pieces here in the college building and then use a secondary program such as
SoundTrap and/or FruityLoops when I am out of the college building in the home setup.

Vlog research

  • 2. Program One: Adobe Premiere Pro CC • Pros Of Premiere • Premiere as a program itself is the one I'm most familiar with overall, I have done most of the work that I have produced whilst in college using this program and at times have preferred to do audio on it as Auditions over complex layout and unnecessarily difficult to navigate dashboard have often proved to be its own downfall. • Premiere is also the ideal software to edit and make sure the piece is cut and mixed with the audio well, its layout is easy to navigate and if not you can change up the dashboard quite easily with a few click and drags across to different areas these provide the piece enough room to be split into multiple sections. • Premiere is also one of their better experiences to edit and render videos filmed off cameras or anything similar it has been a reliable program for a long time and is an enjoyable experience to work in.
  • 3. Adobe Premiere Pro CC Continued… • Cons Of Premiere • The bad things about premiere are limited but they still exist, the issue is mainly that the software itself isn't up to date as much as maybe its competitors such as OBS Studio and Sony Vegas which utilize the rapid changes that video editing often experiences during the years in which the software is created this is why there are very often more versions of video editing software than there is for others and it is also the reason why people prefer certain year editions to that of others. • The age problem of the 2017 editions isn't bad when looking at the program itself, but when compared to other content creation programs of years such as 2019 or 2020 versions of OBS Studio it gets massively dwarfed and whilst these programs also have got their issues its nothing too major just preferences between programs.
  • 4. Program Two: OBS Studio • Pros Of OBS Studio: • OBS is used to screen capture as it is one of the best programs to do so it is also a good editing software for this type of content, its one take potential is great for the type of content that I want to produce it also has got a very easily accessible and reliable saving option which makes revisiting pieces a lot easier and not stressful to create or change after you’ve closed the program. • OBS also allows users to record in high frame rates with no premium or anything like that being necessary it also utilizes either a high refresh rate such as 144hz being absolutely possible using this software meaning your getting as good as possible out of a program that costs absolutely nothing.
  • 5. OBS Studio Continued… • Cons Of OBS Studio • OBS doesn’t have a fantastic editing focus however which whilst the previously mentioned points allow the program a very high one take potential it also provides a poor editing software in comparison this means that the one take is almost necessary if you want to record and edit in the same software obviously this is not the only option we have and we can use another software to edit however this is one of the downfalls of OBS on a whole. • OBS has been utilized in various fields but is most often used in the content creation industry for screen recording the ease of use of this way of doing it creates OBS as being a great program however the high refresh rate capabilities make the program a little more difficult to maneuver especially when the programs layout itself isn't too great although it isn't bad either.
  • 6. Program Three: Sony Vegas • Pros Of Sony Vegas: • Sony Vegas was the highest esteemed editing software when YouTube first started to take off just like BandiCam was the highest level of screen recording until the programs premium offers eventually led to Streamlabs and OBS overtaking the program, Sony still have a whole bunch of editions of the program and the program still hold its own but is overwhelmingly overlooked by creators in favor for Adobes most recent version of Premiere Pro. • Sony Vegas is a very easy software to navigate as well as being able to hold its own when editing the programs maneuverability is quite an asset and I would probably say it has got the easiest way of moving things around and creating due to its purely basic design however in comparison to other editing programs this is likely to be where the positives stop.
  • 7. Sony Vegas Continued… • Cons Of Sony Vegas: • Sony Vegas has been on a slow decline for a little while and has nit necessarily seen many big results over the past few years especially due to everyone's emigration over to Adobe Premiere Pro and even though Adobes experience s a premium one the software has the same factor as its compatriot, Adobe Photoshop which is also a premium software but is paid for by many people on a yearly basis with the sales figures for the piece being through the roof. • People’s use for Sony Vegas, with the introduction of Adobe Premiere or at least the arrival of the technology that the program introduced to the editing software market itself, has been limited this is due to the amount of technological steps the introduction of Adobe actually created for video editors and this began a movement away from Sony Vegas, Premiere’s workshop was also a huge difference maker as previously Sony had premium mixes available but didn't allow mods and premiere allowed people to use them if they had the full version already bought.
  • 8. Program Four: Apple iMovie • The Automated program for video editing that comes along with the MAC range of pieces is one of the best video editing softwares purely due to its incredible utilization of the system it works in as with other programs the system is not always utilized to be worked inside of due to the range of specs a computer with a Microsoft OS or anything else could actually have inside it, however the MAC OS is built to serve the model its been designed for therefore all the programs are also far more utilized to be used inside the system , this creates a far greater experience overall in the program itself. • This being said, the program itself has a few issues the main one being its matter of exclusivity to apple products, meaning for the full version on MAC it would cost around £1500 making it the most expensive option if your starting without a MAC itself this can of course be worked around as it is available on a much smaller scale on other apple products such as the IPad and IPhone whilst not a brilliant alternative it would be one of very few.
  • 9. Program Five: DaVinci Resolve • This program is one I'm not entirely familiar with however from using it for a little bit and exploring its features a little more I can say that this software is fantastic and for the price of £0 it doesn't get much better, usually there are certain restrictions in place however the BlackMagic program has very minimal and the ones that they do have for the free version are things that people far more experienced would be looking for such as a quicker render speed and a higher than 1440p export option, however both of these are not difference makers for me as I'm not fussed about render speed or resolution. • DaVinci feels like a slightly slower version of Premiere which is no easy feat infact Premiere is likely the best on market option for video editing itself so to only be slower but match most other aspects the program has done extremely well. The program also handles fantastically as well this is one of the areas where it closely competes with Premiere as one of premieres features is that the dashboard is extremely customizable, this is the same case with DaVinci and it provides for a smooth and easier experience.
  • 10. Program Six: FL Studio • As audio will be a huge part of the piece I will eventually use the information I'm researching I felt it necessary to analyze and look at a few programs that could help with the audio side of things should I need to move to an external program to work on that, and my overwhelming favorite for working on audio is that of FL or FruityLoops though a predominantly Sound creating app FL can be used for so many different pieces of work including mixing and application of audio and voice. • FL is one of the best programs I have ever worked in and is in my eyes the peak of audio creation technology and combined with Adobe Audition becomes a really good and productive space to work in as both programs are fairly simplistic and can be mastered over an amount of time, most of the audio creation software's have been hit and miss for many years, with previous versions of FL not actually being too great but having no rivals made the industry picture for the programs an easy scene to fix and low and behold FL did just that and dragged the rest of the industry with it, over the last few years FL has gained many serious competitors and have consistently made their programs better and better.
  • 11. Program Seven: VSDC • VSDC comes in as a very basic software which is ideal for doing simple video editing which luckily for VSDC is all we and many other people need to do both the free and advanced versions leave a bit to be desired from a piece of software that does hold its own in the basics but the second that it begins to be compared to other programs even in the advanced conversation this program falters, this is purely due to its lack of features beyond cutting and basic editing features, this lets down the program. • This isn't to say VSDC, is not a bad piece of software but it is slightly outdated this isn't to say it doesn't have its own individual perks, with things such as a screen capture feature that ports directly back to the software and a wide range of informational videos explaining features should you ever need them this makes for a good piece of software but some way off its direct competition however I have a feeling the point of VSDC isn't necessarily to compete but rather to be an alternative and the main thing that infers this is its price point for the full version which sits at around £18 UKS or $20 USD in comparison to Premiere($240) or IMovie($1500) this gives some information into where the company priorities may lie and I have a feeling its not with VSDC.
  • 12. Program Eight: GarageBand • GarageBand is one of my alternatives as with audio creation its fairly unlikely I will be able to use a program such as FL when in the building so I have to look around for some in building alternatives at my disposal and in this case it happens to be GarageBand, the program itself is a good one but has got to be used on an apple device and whilst the college computers do actually have GarageBand this does mean that sound creation would be suspended when I was doing weeks from home, this means I will likely be doing all the in building audio creation work on GarageBand learning something new and then all the out of college work on sound creation on FruityLoops. • This is then able to spread the work between both the building itself and the work at home in the virtual weeks therefore nothing is put on hold due to a lack of resources although it is important to point out that this is extremely circumstantial and may not work for everyone.
  • 13. Analysis Of Program Choices - Video • In the end, the choice I'm likely to make is to use DaVinci purely because I have used premiere a lot in the past and want to look to use something new and DaVinci seems to be the ideal challenge to both learn and utilize to complete what I want to wit the projects over the next couple of months, for me this seems like the right choice as the program itself is the closest to Premiere that I have access to both inside the college building but also at the setup back at home as its accessible for free, this is a vital part of the project going ahead during the pandemic as having the opportunity to work on it on the same program between both home and here so for the progression and the ease of access DaVinci seems like a no brainer. • The ability to use this program to not only create the content but also edit it is also very useful this is why I have a preferred DaVinci to OBS as both the capture and the editing is not possible using that as a software. There is a possibility I will still use OBS to capture the piece I need to for the vlog itself however this is not a yes or no it simply depends whether I'm on my home setup or on a college piece at the time.
  • 14. Analysis Of Program Choices - Audio • As far as audio goes its very likely that I will use the audio tools from Premiere to edit and put it together and then transfer into DaVinci at the end, the audio tool I will be using for sound creation if necessary will be FruityLoops, this is the software I use at home to create music therefore whilst the price point of FL is kind of ridiculous if you were just using it for a one off school project as I use it fairly consistently I will be doing my audio creation using that software. • However this is not to say that I will not explore other programs such as GarageBand and SoundTrap these are two pieces of software that fascinate me as I have never used the consistently but I am aware of how good the programs themselves actually are, this in itself presents an interesting challenge of whether to stick to what I know or explore both programs restrictions and what they can contribute to a piece I create. For example I could use GarageBand to create a few pieces here in the college building and then use a secondary program such as SoundTrap and/or FruityLoops when I am out of the college building in the home setup.
