CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1. INTRODUCTION ABOUT BA NA HILLS MOUTAIN RESORT
1.1 General introduction.
Ba Na Hills is one of the famous places that tourists cannot ignore when
traveling to Da Nang. Because Ba Na Hills tourist area has been dubbed as a
miniature European area in the center of Da Nang city with places of interest, the
ancient buildings filled with fantasy will be a great tourist destination when coming
to Da Nang.
Ba Na is located on the top of Chua Mount, belonging to the Truong Son
range with an altitude of 1.487m. Ba Na is in the territory of Hoa Ninh commune,
Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city, located 25km from Da Nang city to the Southwest
direction. Ba Na has been known as a high-class tourist resort from the late 19th
century to the early 20th century. With cool year-round climate, the average
temperature from 17 – 20 degree C, the highest only from 22 – 25 degree C, Ba Na
is considered as Da Lat of the Central Vietnam.
5. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 2
In 1986, Ba Na was recognized by the Government as a nature reserve,
protected object are tropical forest, comprising many rare animal and plant species.
Ba Na was discovered by the French in April 1901 when governor of Indochina
Paul Doumer was ordered to find a cool climate to build a nursing area for the
French in Central Vietnam. After 1930 dozens of motels have been build and
become the resort, an ideal resort for officials of the French colonial regime.
Later, Ba Na quickly became one of the most famous and biggest vacation
places in Indochina, attracting many tourists on par with Le Bockor (Cambodia),
Tam Dao and SaPa... Originating from the name of Ba Na, there are many ways to
explain this name. Some people said that when the French set foot in this area,
seeing a lot of banana trees, so called “Banane”; Vietnamese people gradually read
the Ba Na; and Writer Nguyen Ngoc thinks that Ba Na is Katu language meaning “
my house”; another legend says that the mountain name is the abbreviation for Mrs.
Poh Nagar or ThienY A Na. Since 1945, Ba Na has been gradually absent from
guests, then forgotten for nearly half a century. Since Octorber 1997, the People’s
Committee of Da Nang city has issued a decision to approve the project to rebuild
the road to the top of Ba Na mountain, marking a new milestone of tourism
development here.
Ba Na Cable Car was built in 2007 and inaugurated in 2009 by the Ba Na
Cable Car Service Joint Stock Company, belonging to Sun Group as an investor.
The whole building has an area of 30 hectares including items: cable car terminal,
technical area, operator and some auxiliary works. The cable car route consists of
22 pillars with 94 cabins, built according to Austrian technology - the world's
leading cable producer - and ensures the operating standards of the European Cable
Car Association.
Since 2006, Ba Na Cable Car Service Joint Stock Company has continued
to invest and further develop Ba Na Hills resort with the aim of turning this place
into an ideal tourist destination based on rich historical and cultural sites. Compared
to many other cable systems, Ba Na cable car is not only more outstanding in terms
6. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722

of speed (average of 6m /s) and capacity (1500 guests / hour) but also the cable car
system has the largest total investment capital in Vietnam, at present is 300 billion
dong.
Since the cable car went into operation, the number of tourists traveling has
increased rapidly. To meet the needs of tourists, Ba Na Cable Car Service Joint
Stock Company has built a cable car route from Vong Nguyet Hill, the central
mountain of God to replace the old cable car, and build more Toc Tien Waterfall
cable car route runs straight from the foot of the mountain to the top of the
mountain. This cable car route has increased the capacity of Ba Na cable car to
3,000 guests per hour. Especially with the glass-bottomed cabin system, this cable
car route has created Ba Na tourist area with an extremely new highlight. Thus, at to
the present time, Ba Na cable car includes a total of 5 routes: Suoi Mo - Ba Na,
Debay - Morin, Toc Tien Waterfall – L’indochine, Hoi An – Marseille, Bordeaux –
Louvre. Ba Na cable car is also the longest one-wire cable car system in the world
with 5,771.6m. In addition, the cable car system also won many other guinness
records such as cable car with the difference between the highest arrival and
departure station in the world (1,368.93m), the cable with the total length of the
world's longest cable (11,587m ) and the cable with the heaviest cable weight in the
world (141.24 tons). It can be said that the birth of Ba Na cable car system not only
enriches the already attractive tourism of Da Nang but also creates conditions for
tourists to admire Ba Na landscape. Looking down from the cable car, each location
in Ba Na Hills tourist map collapses to eye level. Sitting on the cable car cabin,
halfway up the middle of the clouds, watching the primitive, majestic looks of
primeval forest, large trees, flying butterflies, wind blowing with the faint scent of
flowers. Visitors will have an exciting adventure like wandering into a fairytale
place. Now, the cable car is always an image associated with Ba Na Hills, making it
a popular tourist destination in the country and an indispensable imprint on
Vietnam’s tourism map in general and Da Nang city in particular

CHAPTER 2
MY JOB DESCRIPTION
1 .GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO MY JOB
Internship duration: 2 months and 15 days
From April 1st to June 15th 2019. Every week I have a day off
Major internship tasks: Being an intern in Ba Na Hills, I am assigned to work in
Food Court Kiosk. I worked as a saleswoman.
My work starts from 8am to 5pm. Every day before starting work, my Food
Court Kiosk will have a small meeting. Management and monitor will inform staffs
and students of new information, tasks to be done during the day. Employees,
students to expressed their ideas, contributed, or questions . At the end of the
meeting, everyone often said the slogan is "happy working" to welcome a new
working day.
My daily job is clean the kiosk before opening it to sale because everyone
pays great attention to food safety for visitors , followed by displaying items for
sale. . I sell a wide variety of items: homemade sausage, hotdog, Vietnamese
doughnut, fresh cream, drink, fruit juices (juices, smoothies,), and coffee.
In the first week, I approached to the Food Court Kiosk with Mss Kieu
introduction. I was taken by Kieu to visit the kiosk and she introduced it. I also
stared to get familiar with the names of the items in the menu here.
During my internship, I went to work early to rearrange the tables and chairs
neatly. Every morning, I have to clean glass cabinets, set up tables, chair before
displaying fruits or sausages for sale. My main job is selling, so I must always sell
goods to foreign tourists, and communicate with them in different languages to
increase the purchasing efficiency for tourists. In order to do this well, I have
applied the knowledge I learned at school along with the practical experiences to
this work.
11. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 8
Because the place I do has 8 kiosks, sometimes I get assigned to support
other kiosks.
In the final month, I was a real saleswoman. I was able to order goods
myself, confidently sell to tourists, be more agile in solving situations, not hesitate
to answer questions of tourists about the dishes ...
2. STAGE OF WORKING AT FOOD AND BEVERAGE DERPARTMENT
My internship period was divided into 4 stages: Getting acquaintance to
work and studying the information about the department;; Using languages in
communication with guests at Food Court Kiosk; solving expected situation;
difference of the reality and classroom knowledge.
2.1: Getting acquaintance to work and studying the information about the
department.
The Food Court Kiosk where I work consists of 8 kiosk but each of them
sells the same items. My first three days were like three days of probation.
Everything here is new to me. My department has a rule called 6C and 5S:
6C 5S
Proactive Sort
Welcome Straighten
Smile Shine
Take care of Standardize
Thank you Sustain
Sincere
I first learned how to say “xin chao” and “cam on”to customers . I learned
the menu of the kiosk, learned the names of its dishes, drinks, names of sweet cakes
are available in the menu and learned ways to make coffee of different types (Latte,
Cappuccino, Americano, Espresso), example of how to make Americano coffee:
Step one: Making the espresso
Grind espresso beans
12. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 9
Pack the espresso into the portafilter and tamp it
Attach the portafilter into espresso machine
Start brewing espresso within 20-30 seconds
Step two: Making Americano
Boil the water in a kettle
Fill the serving cup with hot water ( This is around two parts of water to one parts
of espresso)
Pour the espresso over the hot water
And then, enjoy it.
I learned the ingredients of pizzas so that when guests asked then I can
answer them. The place that I work, there sell 4 types of pizza: Mushroom pizza,
Seafood pizza, Beep pesto pizza, and Chicken pizza. I often carry a small notebook
to keep a record of all that is taught. Sometimes I don't understand anything, I'll ask
it again. I also focused on observing how staffs work, how they deal with situations
with guests so that I can learn and follow them. In particular, I have to study the
rules of the department, that is, tourists cannot bring food and drinks here; tourists
are not allowed to smoke because this is not a smoking area, staffs are not allowed
to keep personal belongings of tourists and tourists to preserve their belongings. I
was taught how to identify cooked grilled sausages, how to fried Vietnamese
doughnut so that they cooked well and crunched. I also learned how to make
smoothies and juices, such as: mango smoothies, strawberry juice, orange juice,
lime soda, watermelon juice. Each type has different prices, example: mango juice
costs fifty thousand dong, mango smoothies costs sixty thousand dong, strawberry
juice costs sixty thousand dong… I also learned about quantifying processed fruit in
a glass such as:
13. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 10
Mango 0,25kg/glass
Orange 0,5kg/glass
Lime 0,1kg/glass
Lime soda 0,2kg/glass
Strawberry juice 0,15kg/glass
Strawberry smoothies 0,12kg/glass
Passion fruit 0,25kg/glass
The important thing I need to remember is that about food hygiene and safety, all
food and drink must be placed in a clean, dry place, and must be carefully wrapped.
The principle of kiosk is that food must be placed 30 centimeters from the floor, and
placed 50 centimeters from the ceiling. Everyone does not directly touch their hands
into food or drinks during processing. At first when I was working I would
inevitably make mistakes, such as I made a mistake between the amount of water
and mango when making mango smoothies, or I exchanged dollars for guests
incorrectly, and because I was not used to work so I made it a little bit slower ... but
the days later I became more familiar with this work.
2.2: Using languages in communication with the guests.
As a saleswoman, every day we will communicate a lot with tourists from
around the world so it is essential that staffs know a few languages. The place I
work has Korean, China, Western and Thai guests so I was also taught basic
communication sentences in the working of sales. For example :
The staff conversation with China guests:
- Me : 你好, 香肠 (ni hao, xiangcháng)
- Guest: 多少钱? (duo shao qián?)
- Me : 三万五 ( san wan wu)
- Guest: 好的,我买 (hao de, wo mai)
The staff with Western guest:
- Guest: Can I get one hotdog, please?
14. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 11
- Me : Yes, I will make it now. Can you wait a minute?
- Guest: Yeah.
- Me : Do you want ketchup, mustard and chilli add to your hotdog?
- Guest: Um, just ketchup, please. How much is it?
- Me : Its price is fifty thousand dong.
The staff with the Korea guests:
- Me : 안녕하세요, 소시지 and 핫도그(annyeonghaseyo, sosiji and hasdogeu?)
- Guest : 소시지 (sosiji), please.
- Me : 쇠고기 소시지 또는 닭고기 소시지? (soegogi sosiji ttoneun dalg-gogi
sosiji?)
- Guest : 소 소시지주세요, 얼마 요?( so soegogi sosijijuseyo, eolma yo?)
- Me : 사 만 오 천 dong ( sammanochon dong).
And after the guest pays, the staff always say “thank you” to the guests
because the place that I work has the principle that before selling to guest the staff
must say “xin chao” and when the guest has paid, the staff will receive the money
and attach a “ thank you” statement.
About changing currency exchange rates. Here, guests are only allowed to
pay Vietnamese money, dollars, and bath. Exchange rate of dollars converted into
Vietnamese currency: 1 dollar = 22.000 dong ; Thai Lan money: 100 bath = 70.000
dong .
When the staffs don’t understand what the guests say, they will ask again:
Sorry, I can not catch you. Can you repeat, please?
Sorry, Did you say you don't want to add chili sauce to the hotdog?
When staff don’t know the answer, they don’t say that “I don’t know about
it”.
Sometimes in sales I also make mistakes. Especially on the holidays, the
tourists who come to buy goods are crowded, making me quite in a hurry to pay for
them, leading me to give the wrong change to the guests.
15. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 12
When I got acquainted with the environment here, I began to talk to foreign
guests in their free time. They are very enthusiasm, they showed the pronunciation
of difficulties words, so my pronunciation became better. Sometimes some foreign
tourists who want to learn Vietnamese ask me if their Vietnamese pronunciation is
correct and I teach them how to pronounce some words in Vietnamese. For
example, there is a Western person, they come to buy Vietnamese doughnut:
- Guest : Can I get one Vietnamese doughnut, please?
- Me : Sorry, We don’t buy one, We buy a bag of two cakes for 50 thousand dong.
- Guest: Ok. I buy. Let me ask what do you say this word in Vietnamese?
- Me : It is called “ Bánh cam”
And then they repeat this word
2.3: Solving expected situation
Working in serving environment, the waitress often faces pressure and
difficult problem as well as unexpected situation. To satisfy the guests, the salesman
has to try very much. They are responsible for all matters relating to Food Court
Kiosk. They are brisk, clever, and friendly person. Sometimes, they work under
high pressure. As a new saleswoman, I met some unexpected situation. For
example:
There was a Western tourist who bought a fresh coconut , but when he drank,
he felt like it was sour and he complained to me that "coconut is broke, I can not
drink it", after I heard him say that, I immediately tasted coconut water and I
realized what he was saying right and I said "sorry, I will exchange you another
coconut."
A Thai tourist groups with 8 people. They came to my kiosk to buy fresh ice
cream. Here, we buy a cone of two fresh ice cream bits and it costs 30,000 dong.
Conversation between I and guest:
- Guest: Hello, I buy ice cream
- Me: Yes, What do you want to flavor?
- Guest: Give me strawberry ice cream.
16. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 13
While I was scooping the first bit of ice cream into the cone, they told me:
“We want this second bit of ice cream to put in the second cone.”
I said: “It was impossible”. But they said: “We will pay”.
And so I continued to divide two bits of ice cream into two cones until I had eight
cones. And then I said them:
“The total you have to pay is two hundred and forty thousand dong”.
They were surprised and said:
“We only bought 4 ice creams”.
And they showed their ice cream to me. I understand what they say and I explained
to them:
“We buy a ice cream cone with two ice cream bits and it costs 30 thousand dong.”
They did not agree, and said:
“We only bought one bit of ice cream in a cone and there were only 4 bit of ice
creams in total.”
I explain it again so that they understand and tell them more: “we charge according
to the cone.”
- Guest: “Ah, I understand , ok, I pay it”.
They agree with my explanation.
In addition, my manager also taught me about 6 steps of dealing with upset
customers:
Step one: Begin with a positive attitude
Step two: Let customer vent
Step three: Be empathetic to the customer
Step four: Demonstrate you understand
Step five: Begin active problem solving
Step six: Mutually agree on the solution
During the process of sales, I met difficulties about vocabularies. There are a
few situations, I know what the guest say but I did not understand in Vietnamese
such as: “ Can you give me a straw?”,”Give us some tissues”. When customers
17. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 14
know I don't understand what they say, they will describe it in action, so I will know
what they need.
2.4: Difference of the reality and classroom knowledge.
2.4.1 Classroom knowledge:
In the college, I only studied English through books, and only communicated
with friends, I also heard English through the recorder but they read with many
liking verb that made me unable to catch the meaning of the recording.
There are some vocabularies that I have learned that may not be popular in
reality.
In writing, the tenses are used correctly.
2.4.2 Reality knowledge:
I communicate directly with native speakers so when they say I can catch the
meaning of the sentence they are saying.
Tourists often use sentence structure “ Can I get ….,please?”; “ Can I ask
you…?” to buy anything, or to question.
In the text, sometimes foreign tourist just need to understand the meaning of
the sentence, not too stereotyped as in writing.
CHAPTER 3
LESSONS LEARNT
After more than two months at F&B department, I had lot of change to
apply the knowledge which I have learned at college to real life and get experience.
I have collected useful knowledge and experience for myself. Myself change in a
more positive way.
About the working time, I always go to work on time and follow to the
rules. As a saleswoman, I always keep calm, patient and friendly whenever
satisfying guest’s requirement and complaints without upset.
18. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 15
Because this place I met a lot of foreigners, my English speaking and
listening skills also improved. I now confidently communicate with foreigners.
+ In speaking skills, I communicate a lot with foreigners everyday, which
helps me improve my English vocabulary, and I also learn some other languages.
+ In listening skills, I realized that I heard foreigner speak better when I was
on school. because when communicating with them, I realized that using the liking
verb was easier.
I learnt many sample sentences in the communication process:
Greet:
I always enthusiastically greeted guests, so that they feel happy here.
Apologize:
I am very sorry for the mistake.
Refusing guest’s need:
Sorry, we don’t have buy coffee
Sorry, we have out of stock avocado to sale for you.
At guest leave:
Thank you, and enjoy your meals.
Dealing with complaints:
I am very sorry to hear that. I will exchange something for you.
I also noticed that Korean have very different ways of pronouncing English
sounds, so Korean people will read sound /o/ => sound /a/ and sound /d/ => sound
/t/, for example: hotdog => /hasdogeu/; dollar => /tallar/; and Koreans often
interject /eu/ behind words. Example: ice cream =>/ aiseu keurim/; Vietnamese
donuts => /doneocheu/ ; mango juice => / mango juseu /.
From a shy person, I am now more confident, agile, more flexible at work.
In work I have used the skills that I have learned at school like:
+Teamwork skills, this is an important skill in sales, because when combined
staffs work together, the working capacity will be more effective. The staffs help
19. Dịch vụ viết thuê báo cáo thực tập tốt nghiệp – ZALO 0362 073 722
Student: Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam Class: TATM2-16 Page | 16
me finish the given work well. Whenever I did not listened requirements of foreign
tourists, they given and guided clearly.
+ Solving skills, I practice this skill so that it is reasonable for customers.
Besides, thanks to the fact that I have the basic knowledge about Ba Na
Hills, when tourists ask me about the Golden bridge or where the Fatansy park is or
where the buffet dining is, I can easily guide guests go to the right place they need.
About attitudes towards guests:
+ The saleswoman has to smile with guests.
+ The saleswoman should not angry.
+ The salesman are always listening to guests' feedback, not ignoring guest
opinions.
+ Occasionally, there are guests who order the wrong drink and they want to
exchange another drink, the salesman has to gently exchange to the request of
guests.
Every day I sell to many foreign tourists from different countries, I also
understand their eating culture, such as:
+ For Korean, when they eat hot dog or sausages, they eat more ketchup than
chili, they also like to eat mustard.
+ For Vietnamese people, in contrast to Korean, they prefer to eat chili
sauce.
In short, I have learned a lot of useful things from working in this
department and I feel respectful because this is useful experience for me in the
future.
