3. Why and to whom?
• Aims of Kepeli
– Support integration of immigrants
– Stengthen methodological skills of organisations working with immigrants
– Strengthen partnerships between municipalities and NGOs
– Create platforms for interaction and learning between students
• Target group: immigrants who
– Originate from outside of Europe
– Are in the working age (approx 18-65 years)
– Have recently moved to a municipality (with a residence permit)
or whose integration has started slowly for a reason or another
– Are pontentially in a vulnerable position
4. Activities of Kepeli (1)
• Compile existing methods and develop new Kepeli approaches, which
combine 1) bodily and 2) game related approaches to be used in groups to
– Empower!
– Expand understanding of the Finnish society
– Support language learning
– Strengthen motivation to learn and eventually to be employed
> Instructions on web-site and staff training
• Invite civil servants from municipalities and NGOs established by immigrants
to collaboration forums
– Compile information on what are the biggest integration challenges during
the initial integration phase > utilised in developing Kepeli methods
– Strengthen networks and common understanding
5. Activities of Kepeli (2)
• Create a structured way to assess the impact of Kepeli methods from both
immigrants and supervisors by developing
– An assessment framework and
– Methods on how to put it into practice (e.g. by making use of visual or bodily
approaches)
• Develop a model for student encounters allowing groups to learn from each
other while using Kepeli methods
– Immigrant student groups: Finnish language and society, educational
opportunities…
– University of Applied Sciences student groups: cultural differences/
similarities, communication, ”the perspective of an immigrant”…
