Conflict can have both positive and negative consequences. Positively, conflict can increase creativity, force people to clarify their views, and produce constructive social change. However, conflict can also lead to violence, breakdown of relationships, polarization of views, a breakdown of collaboration, and destruction of communication. Prolonged conflict can result in "groupthink" where groups conform to questionable decisions without critical thinking.
