Dear Ms. Flynn:
I am pleased to recommend Katie LeMay for an American Business Women's
Association scholarship. I have taught at the McLennan Community College (MCC) in
Waco, Texas since 2004. Katie is currently enrolled in my principles of macroeconomics
course this spring and I enthusiastically recommend her for the scholarship offered
through your organization.
I would rate Katie's overall performance in the macroeconomics class as excellent. This is
evidenced by her earning the highest current average in the class of 12 students. Katie
takes meticulous notes and eagerly participates in class discussions. She is an active
listener and asks challenging questions that indicate higher level thinking. Katie is very
personable, confident, and competent. She always has a positive attitude and it is not
uncommon that she will stay after class to explain a difficult economics concept to a
classmate. I want to point out that Katie excels in her other courses as well (her current
grade point average at MCC is a 3.9).
Outside of class, Katie works as a Nursery Manager at The Church at Tree Lake on
Sundays, as a secretary and accountant at The Church at Tree Lake throughout the week,
and as a tutor with MCC Student Support Services on Fridays. Despite working long
hours, she is responsible for her class work and has always come to class prepared for
discussion. Katie is also a single mother of an 11­year old son and a 13 year­old daughter,
and all of them volunteer at the Animal Shelter for the Humane Society together. Katie’s
ability to perform to balance her many responsibilities well underscore her strong work
ethic, leadership, and sense of responsibility.
I highly recommend Katie LeMay for your scholarship program with no reservations.
Katie will pursue her bachelor’s degree at Tarleton State University to fulfill her career
goal of becoming a certified public accountant. If her performance in my class is any
indication of how she will continue to perform in the future, Katie will be an excellent
candidate for your scholarship program. She is a hard­working student with so much
potential and is deserving of every opportunity for success. Thank you for your
