1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use media technologies
in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. Blogger
When it was used? Blogger was the format I used to present all my work from
planning, through to the evaluation.
How? I used it to display my work, meaning I could embed work as
well as type straight onto a blog post.
Advantages I am familiar with blogger meaning it was easy to use and on
blogger I was able to embed other ways of displaying work
(i.e. prezi and slideshare.) Blogger is simple tool making my
work accessible and well presented.
Disadvantages I did struggle with blogger as I find it quite outdated
compared to other blogging sites (such as Word Press or
Tumblr) but persisted with it because of the professional
final look.
3. SlideShare (and PowerPoint)
When it was used? Planning and Evaluation
How? I used slideshare as a way of putting my PowerPoint online
and onto blogger (by embedding them.) I also used slideshare
as a way of finding information and advice as there are lots of
slideshare tutorials that informed be about editing on new
software or theorists.
Advantages Slideshare is very simple technology and very easy to use.
PowerPoint's are very useful ways of displaying information
and slideshare allowed me to incorporate this into my blog
easily.
Disadvantages Very few disadvantages, only that it is connected to LinkedIn
which caused a few issues creating the account.
4. Prezi
When it was used? Evaluation Question 2
How? As a form of presentation
Advantages Prezi allows you to embed other videos (from YouTube etc..)
making it very useful when analysing my project. It’s a very
visually pleasing format and looks very nice on the blog. It
created a bit of diversity as I tend to use SlideShare more
often.
Disadvantages I found it very tedious, but that is just personal
5. Google Slides
When it was used? Research (Genre research post)
How? As a form of presentation
Advantages Very simple to use (much like PowerPoint) and I was able to
embed onto my blog. Allowed diversity in how I was
presenting my work and was a very attractive way of
displaying research. Had an auto save so I didn’t need to
worry about loosing work and was saved onto my Google
drive meaning it took up no storage on any hardware.
Disadvantages Found it quite difficult to embed onto my blog but looked
good once there.
6. Adobe Photoshop
When it was used? Production
How? To edit and create both of my ancillary texts
Advantages Able to save several version of my work easily and simple
tools enabled me to create a nice and appropriate design that
looked professional with minimal struggle. I was able to use
screenshots from my video easily on Photoshop to create the
products.
Disadvantages I find Photoshop quite time consuming as I’m not overly used
to working with it but it became easier with time. As I did not
have the software on my own computer I was only able to use
Photoshop at college, this didn’t cause a large issue though.
7. Adobe Premiere Pro
When it was used? Production
How? To edit my music video
Advantages Similar to Photoshop, the software allowed me to save several
versions of the video as I edited. Having not used the
software before I found it quite easy to use and it has a wide
variety of tools that came in useful such as the video effects.
Disadvantages Again, similar to Photoshop, I did not have the software at
home for me to be able to edit on, however this didn’t cause a
large problem.
8. Canon EOS 700D
When it was used? Production
How? Filming some of the music video (as other shots where done
on an IPhone)
Advantages Amazing quality footage and easily transferred from the
memory card (64GB.) The camera itself is easy to use, I used
the auto setting in order to make the most of the natural light
I was shooting in.
Disadvantages The camera was quite bulky which did mean that it was quite
hard to create a point of view look as I often had to hold it
with two hands (it is this reason I continues filming on an
IPhone)
9. IPhone 6S+
When it was used? Production an Evaluation
How? Filming some of the music video and all of my video focus
groups and feedback
Advantages Lightweight and portable, made it very easy to film like point
of view. Easy to transfer data onto hardware in order to edit
it. Changing the settings to shoot in 4K meant I had very high
quality footage.
Disadvantages I found little wrong with using my phone besides the low
battery life (this never posed too large an issue.)
10. YouTube
When it was used? Production and Evaluation
How? To present any video formatted work (i.e. music video and
focus group feedback)
Advantages YouTube is easy to access and upload to. As the Google drive,
Blogger and YouTube accounts are all affiliated going
between the three is very easy. YouTube also opened the
products up to third party audiences without an agenda
meaning I had extra feedback to use.
Disadvantages The uploading process took quite a long time but this cannot
be helped.
11. Hard drive
When it was used? Throughout
How? To store and backup all my work
Advantages Having all my work (specifically my footage) backed up on a
hard drive became very important when editing as often my
footage would get lost or I would run out of room to store any
work on the college system, this meant I could hold more
copies of my work. Having work safe on a hard drive also
means that it is all in one place orginised together.
Disadvantages If I forgot it or lost it I would have lost all the work
