To Whom it May Concern,
I had the pleasure of being the clinical instructor for Katia Singh, a junior BSN student attending The Lienhard School of Nursing
program at PACE University during the spring semester 2015. We worked for one clinical day per week at Hudson Valley Hospital
Center in Cortlandt, N.Y. which is affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. This was the Med-Surge II rotation. She was one of
eight students who believed in team work. Katia, from the first day showed the initiative of a being an exceptional team leader and
player. She even helped this instructor navigate through the technical waters of an unfamiliar electronic charting system due to having
a different system at my place of employment as an R.N. She is a people person and problem solver. The staff enjoyed having her as a
guest because she would always lend a helping hand. Teamwork leads to better patient outcomes.
She actively sought via resources available, the best evidence based practice for the treatment of various diseases and
manifestations of the disease process in this patient population. This patient population was mostly elderly with various illnesses from
cancer to gastric problems to organ failure. Many had chronic maladies such as hypertension, diabetes and heart ailments common in
this age group. Katia delivered holistic, compassionate care to the patient as well as their family members. She took the time to get to
know the patient as a person. Her patients were comforted by the fact that she listened to them and was careful, precise and gentle in
the delivery of care.
She was especially proactive and sensitive to pain management concerns pre and post-procedure, such as with wound and post-
operative care. As part of this rotation Katia was able to work two of her clinical days in the wound center and one day in the OR. She
got as much out of these experiences as possible by observing, and asking pertinent questions. I know that Katia would be a valuable
asset to any health care organization.
Sincerely,
Theresa Magliulo R.N. / FNP-B.C.
