2. Warner Brothers
Warner Brothers was founded on April 4, 1923. Since then it had
become a major American film production company. It produces
and distributes 18-22 films a year.
It produces and distributes a range of movies from fantasy to
romance to comedy.
One of the most successful Warner Brothers productions is the
Harry Potter series. Which happens to be a fantasy series with
some action in it.
Another successful film produced by Warner Brother is The Dark
Knight. This film is purely action on the other hand.
This makes the production house a perfect candidate for funding a
action fantasy film.
3. 20th Century Fox
The production house was founded on May 31, 1935. It is located in
America and it’s one of America’s 6 major film studios.
It produces a more broader range of movies, most are family movies
and always have action elements in them.
It’s most successful movies are the Star Wars series, Night at the
Museum, Avatar and Titanic.
Out of those only Night at the Museum is fantasy(ish). Most are
aimed at families and have a lot of action in them. Both Avatar and
Star Wars are Sci-fi.
Therefore it is highly improbable 20th Century Fox would fund an
action fantasy movie, which makes 20th Century fox an unlikely
production house for my movie.
4. Universal Studios
Universal Studios was founded in April 30, 1912 and is also
American.
It is mostly well know for producing comedies and for it’s classic
movies such as Jurassic Park and E.T.
One of the most recent films produced by the institution is Despicable
Me 2 which is surprisingly an animation. However it is also a comedy
which is a standard for this production house.
Both of the famous classic, Jurassic Park and E.T., are sci-fi movies.
However Jurassic Park is more for older audiences (teens or older)
5. DreamWorks
DreamWorks was founded in October 12, 1994 and is another
American institution.
It is the main institution behind major animation films such as
Shrek and How to Train your Dragon. It specialises in family
oriented movies, hence why the greater majority of the films
produced are animations. They even have a separate studio called
DreamWorks Animations especially for those movies.
DreamWorks movies often have a fantasy or a sci-fi element,
however they are unlikely to fund ,y action fantasy movie as it’s
neither an animation nor is it suitable for all audiences/ for families.
Fun Fact: In the DreamWorks original logo the model for the little
boy with the fishing rob was actually the founder’s son.
6. Lord of the Rings
Lord of the Rings was the main movie
inspiration for our opening sequence.
Therefore since we wanted to make a
movie similar to it I decided to look at
what production house decided to
distribute it.
I found out it was New Line Cinema,
which wasn’t too surprising considering
the fact that during that time New Line
Cinema was subsidiary of Warner Bros.
And as Warner Bros. likes producing
quite a lot of fantasy type movies this
wasn't exactly surprising.
7. What institution might distribute my
movie?
From all the institutions Warner Bros. Seems like the most
likely candidate. They produce and distribute many fantasy,
action and action fantasy movies so my film would match
their profile.
They are also a very successful company which means if my
films made by them it should receive a large enough
founding to make the film look good visually at least.
Another option would be to make my own production house to
film my movie. However independent production often don’t
get more than £15,000 of budget and often don’t get much
distribution to make any profit.
However some independent production succeed. For example
the horror movie called Paranormal Activity was produced
solely by Oren Peli. He only had $15,000 of budget and yet
he managed to make $193.4 million.
8. Our Decision
We decided to include the Warner Bros. Logo in
our opening as realistically if we did make a
full movie about a conflict between the elves
we would need a big budget to make it work.
However we also included our own logo as after
we did produce it or were part of producing it
and the original idea of the movie belong to us.
