MSU to Host “Come
Together Kentucky”
LGBT Equality
Conference
Feb. 28, 2014 – It is with pleasure and
understanding that Morehead State
University will be hosting the 18th
annual meeting of Come Together
Kentucky, a statewide conference on
LGBT equality and social justice.
The conference, taking place from
March 28th
to the 30th
, will be a place for
college students, high school students,
and other community members who
want to learn more about LGBT identity,
how to overcome bullying about the
subject, and help to change the world
around us towards a more fair and
considerate future. Attendants will be
encouraged and instructed in methods to
better reach out and voice your opinions
as an activist for those who identify as
LGBT, and take part in the political,
educational, and social movements
taking place throughout Kentucky.
Two important speakers will be present
at the meeting. The first of these is Dr.
Bernadette Barton, MSU’s professor of
sociology and women’s studies, who
regularly write and lectures on
contemporary issues concerning gender
and sexuality. She is also the author of
two books discussing the subject of
LGBT, Stripped: Inside the Lives of
Exotic Dancers (2006) and Pray the Gay
Away: The Extraordinary Lives of Bible
Belt Gays (2012). She will be joined by
Dr. Jody Cofer Randall, LGBT program
coordinator of both Murray State
University’s Division of Student Affairs
and Undergraduate Research and
Scholarly Activity division within
Academic Affairs. Randall also serves as
the vice-chair of Murray State
President’s Commission on Diversity
and Inclusion, and is the past chair of the
National Equality Federation Board of
Directors. In addition, he holds the
position of chair of the City of Murray
Human Rights Commission and is
currently a member of the Heartland
CARES board of directors.
On-site registration for the conference
will commence at the Adron Doran
University Center (ADUC) on the 28th
at 5 P.M., and will be followed by a time
to meet and say hello to fellow guests at
7 P.M. Registration can also be done in
advance online at:
www.moreheadstate.edu/ctkregistrationf
orm/. The cost for the event will be $20
for students and $30 for professionals.
The deadline for advance registration is
March 20th
, after which prices will
increase by $5 per participant. To help
celebrate, a Drag Show will also be
hosted by MSU’s prestigious ALLyance
team prior to the event on March 29th, at
8 P.M. in ADUC. Tickets will cost $5
for regular guests, or free for those
registered for the conference.
