1. $10,000 Reward Offered
in Caskey's Jewelry
Burglary Case
January 22, 2014 - Cindy Caskey-
Moore entered her family’s jewelry
store, Caskey's Jewelry, on Sunday
morning only to find her store
vandalized and several pieces of her
merchandise stolen. Display cases had
been emptied of numerous precious
pieces of jewelry and employees of the
business spent all of Monday trying to
get the store back in order. The total
value of the loss has yet to be calculated
as inventory continues to be checked
during the clean up of the destruction.
"I was absolutely shocked at the
devastation. I'm mad, disgusted, and feel
violated," said Caskey-Moore. "This is
our family business and that means we
have devoted everything to it. They've
not just taken stuff. This affects our
family, employees, and our customers."
Kentucky State Police have announced
that the thieves responsible appeared to
have gained entry through the roof of the
store. Upon further inspection, the
building’s camera surveillance system
was also discovered to have been
removed. The thieves used this technical
blindness to conceal themselves as they
proceeded in their endeavor.
"They've thrown our displays around
and have taken hundreds of pieces of
jewelry," Caskey-Moore responded.
"They took the time to sit down and
remove items from their displays and
boxes and sorted through it then just
threw things around."
A computer technician will be coming to
the store soon to analyze the video
evidence that was left after the theft. In
addition, Caskey-Moore has decided to
add an armed guard that will be placed
in the two stores constantly along with
new security systems to better prevent
further threats.
Many unique and valuable items and
estate jewelry were taken but as of this
time, it seems as though all of the
firearms in the adjoining Caskey's Gun
and Pawn were not touched.
Caskey-Moore has said that while
business will be temporarily interrupted
after this illegal act she is committed to
going on for her customers and family.
"We will have to be closed for the next
couple of days to take inventory,
straighten up everything and get
everything fixed," said Caskey-Moore.
"Lay-a-ways and jewelry repairs can be
retrieved through Caskey's Gun and
Pawn until we reopen to the public."
She has said that she hopes they will
reopen by next Monday at the latest.
"Most importantly no one was hurt and
for that I am incredibly thankful," said
Caskey-Moore. "I'm so grateful for the
patience and understanding of our
customers, as well as their loyalty
throughout all the years."
Caskey’s Jewelry has been selling to the
community for 35 years, and Caskey-
Moore’s resolution is a testament to the
spirit and heart of her family and
employees as they regain themselves
from their losses and damages.
2. Caskey-Moore has since posted a
monetary payment to anyone that can aid
them in the capture of the robbery’s
perpetrators.
"We are offering a $10,000 reward for
the arrest and conviction of the persons
who robbed Caskey's Jewelry," she said.
"I want them caught and I hope that
anyone with information will come
forward."
To report any information to the KSP,
call 784-4127. No arrests have been
made at this time. The incident is under
investigation by Detective David
Zimmerman.
"I am so thankful for the KSP, the
Rowan County Sheriff's Department and
the Morehead Police Department for
their response and their commitment to
our family business and all of the
businesses in Rowan County," said
Caskey-Moore.
