The Current Digital Economy is Broken
Users have been conditioned to expect free, unlimited access to all digital content
including music, news, blogs, videos, apps, etc.
Periodicals and other content creators are struggling financially, while intellectual
property is delivered “free” via search engines, social media and other platforms.
Monetization is primarily derived from selling user data and advertising.
OUR VISION
To transform the digital economy to a new and more
equitable model for artists, creators and consumers.
The New Digital Economy
Content creators decide on a token draw for their work and are paid according
to usage by consumers.
Users purchase sharable digital tokens to receive access to all content in the
model’s ecosystem.
Tokens are drawn by the WEYV app or when users access content from
WEYV enabled partner sites.
Monetization is primarily derived from usage data which is protected and not
sold for advertising.

  1. Jen: introduce presentation, thank everyone for coming. Today we wanted to give you all greater insight into what WEYV is all about and we’ll be exploring several areas that will do just that. We hope you’ll walk away today understanding that we’re more than just an app. We’re a company that has a unique take on how society will be consuming content.

I want to give you a quick overview of our agenda: vision (how we see the future of content consumption), the WEYV story and our mission, some exciting news and new features in WEYV that we’re pretty excited about, demo and Q&A Now I’m going to pass it along to Jim Scapa, founder, chairman and CEO of Altair, WEYV’s parent company, and Stephanie Scapa, CEO of WEYV Jim will kick us off and talk about our vision

  4. JIM Start with WHY. Why are we doing this? We have a vision for how content will be consumed in the future. Today: consumed primarily free with premium paid options; companies like Google feed you content, track your info/usage and sell it to advertisers to feed ads to you. This model is increasingly invasive. We’re building a model with a different approach that we believe can transform how society consumes content on their own terms, remunerating IP/content creators

Based on the price you set for the content as well as the amount of time a user spends accessing your content Highlights – largest privately held children’s media publisher in the U.S. Also offer High-Five (ages 3-5), Hello (0-2) and bi-lingual version of High-Five Books follow same formulaic table of contents: fiction, non-fiction, craft (easily translates to PDF), search & find Also offer apps and digital content outside magazines Also taken a lot of stories from Hi-Five and animated them – hope to have 300 animated stories by the end of the year. Maybe a fit for Watch section of WEYV? Highlights works to repurpose content: create e-books and sell to educational facilities, videos, etc. 99% of her time is spent on licensing content to international partners around the world. Work on minimum annual guarantee typically and then share of sales. 2 million subscribers in the U.S. but international business is fastest-growing area for them. In 8 years went from team of 1 to team of 10. What format do they offer besides PDF? WEYV takes PDF (downside is that from mobile it’s less ideal for end-user). We’ve seen the move to JSON format which is more of like a kindle engagement – like an e-book where you can change font size, etc. Gives more flexibility for the end-user. Highlights magazines never include advertising.
