2. What are prepositions?
A preposition is a word which shows the relationship
between a noun or a pronoun with other words in a sentence
which can either be a verb, a noun or an adjective.
The word preposition means placing before. So a preposition
word is placed before a noun or a pronoun

They were lying under the tree.
He drove over the bridge.
He swam across the river.
She is in the class.
The party is at their residence.

All prepositions shows different relationship with the noun or the
pronoun, so we have to be very careful while using them.
For Example :
The boys were playing under the tree.
The boys were playing by the tree.
The boys were playing near the tree.
The boys were playing beside the tree.
In the given examples, the words under, by, near and beside show
different relationship of the tree with the playing of the boys.

Object of Preposition: The noun or pronoun before which the
preposition is placed is known as the object of preposition.
For Example : They are playing in the park.
She sat far away from me.
In the given examples, the words park and me are the object of prepositions.

Group Prepositions/Prepositional phrase:
In addition to single word prepositions like on, over, after, etc.
some groups of words can also function as prepositions. Some
important group prepositions commonly used are : in front of,
in spite of, for the sake of, as a result of, in case of, on account
of, because of, away from, in addition of, on behalf of etc.

beginning and the end of a period: “You must get the job done between
