1. Pixel Art
Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of raster graphics software, where images
are edited on the pixel level. Graphics in most old (or relatively limited) computer, console, graphing
calculator and mobile phone video games are mostly pixel art. Pixel art was very often used in older
computer and console video games. With the increasing use of 3D graphics in games, pixel art lost
some of its use. Pixel art is preferably stored in a file format utilizing lossless data compression, such
as run-length encoding or an indexed color palette. GIF and PNG are two file formats commonly
used for storing pixel art. The JPEG format is avoided because its lossy compression algorithm is
designed for smooth continuous-tone images and introduces visible artifacts in the presence of
dithering.
Concept Art
Concept art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of a
design, idea, and/or mood for use in films, video games, animation, or comic books before it is put
into the final product. Concept art is also referred to as visual development and/or concept design.
This term can also be applied to retail design, set design, fashion design and architectural design. In
recent years concept art has embraced the use of digital technology. Software, such as Photoshop
and Corel Painter, has become more easily available, as well as hardware such as graphics tablets,
enabling more efficient working methods. Concept art ranges from photorealistic to traditional
painting techniques.
2. Texture Art
The texture is the quality of a surface, often corresponding to its tactile character, or what may be
sensed by touch. Texture may be used, for example, in portraying fabrics. It can be explicitly
rendered, or implied with other artistic elements such as lines, shading, and variation of color. It is
also about the different patterns and types of lines and shading e.g.: rough, smooth, soft.
Background Art
Background art is an important factor forgiving a game it final touch, it can include menu
backgrounds, skyboxes or maybe in game backgrounds. They are important forgive a game a specific
feel, using colours likered to represent danger or frustration.
Media Art
Media art is a genre that encompasses artworks created with new media technologies, including
digital art, computer graphics, computer animation, virtual art, Internet art, interactive art, video
games, computer robotics, and art as biotechnology. The term differentiates itself by its resulting
cultural objects and social events, which can be seen in opposition to those deriving from old visual
arts (i.e. traditional painting, sculpture, etc.).
