FACTS ABOUT
ALEXANDRIA
Alexander the Great chose the site in 331 B.C.

There was a healthy environment for people, land, ships and
farmers

It stood in an ideal place for commerce at the meeting-place of
great trade routes and it played a key role in its success

The streets were on a grid system

Canopus Street, which was 100 feet wide, could hold many
wagons going many separate ways

Alexander the Great did not see his city completed, he died during
its construction
ALEXANDRIAN
  GOVERNMENT
Queen Cleopatra is last in this line

The family of Ptolymy rules over
Alexandria for the next 300 years
Quick Fact: Egypt becomes a Roman providence in 30 B.C.
THE PHAROS
The Pharos had a fire that went
on day and night, and the
                                   lighthouse would reflect this
light from the fire from highly
                                  polished bronze which would
                                    brighten the sea, directing
                                    sailors to the harbor safely
The Pharos, named for the island it stood
on, is an ancient wonder of the world
THE ROYAL QUARTER

                   The Royal Quarter contained palaces,
                  temples, administrative offices and
                  gardens

Cleopatra began the Caesaerum’s construction built to
honor the Roman General Marc Antony, but Augustus
Caesar finished it and dedicated it to himself.

Now Cleopatra’s Needles are in London,
    England and Central Park, NY
