45. In the Christian calendar, Easter follows Lent, the
period of 40 days (not counting Sundays) before
Easter, which traditionally is observed by acts of
penance and fasting. Easter is immediately
preceded by Holy Week, which includes Maundy
Thursday, the commemoration of Jesus’ Last
Supper with his disciples; Good Friday, the day of
his Crucifixion; and Holy Saturday, the transition
between Crucifixion and Resurrection.
46. Liturgically, Easter comes after the Great
Vigil, which was originally observed
sometime between sunset on Easter
Saturday and sunrise on Easter Sunday. Later
it would be celebrated in Western churches
on Saturday evening, then on Saturday
afternoon, and finally on Sunday morning. In
1955 the Roman Catholic Church set the time
for the vigil at 10 PM, which allowed for the
Easter mass to be celebrated after midnight.
51. The custom of the
Easter lamb appropriates both the
appellation used for Jesus in Scripture
(“behold the lamb of God which takes
away the sins of the world,” John 1:29)
and the lamb’s role as a sacrificial
animal in ancient Israel.
52. The use of painted and decorated Easter
eggs was first recorded in the 13th century.
The church prohibited the eating of eggs
during Holy Week, but chickens continued to lay
eggs during that week, and the notion of specially
identifying those as “Holy Week” eggs brought
about their decoration. The egg itself became a
symbol of the Resurrection. Just as Jesus rose
from the tomb, the egg symbolizes new life
emerging from the eggshell.
55. The day before his crucifixion, Jesus observed
Passover with his disciples. This event is known as the
Last Supper. Passover is the time that Jews
remembered their freedom and exodus from Egypt.
During this Passover feast, Jesus told his disciples that
the bread symbolizes his body that would be broken
and the wine, his blood, which would be poured out for
the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:17-30).
56. The Last Supper is remembered today in churches
and religious services through the act of taking
Communion and sharing bread and wine to
remember the sacrifice of Jesus.
Jesus was arrested after the Passover meal while
he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. He
was then taken before the Roman Governor,
Pontius Pilate, for trial.
58. The lamb comes from the Jewish Passover,
where each family killed a lamb as a
sacrifice. When Christ became the Passover
Lamb for everyone, the lamb became a symbol
for His sacrifice.
John 1:29 - "The next day John saw Jesus
coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of
God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
66. Learning Task 4:
Celebrating this Easter season is
not counting from the
resurrection of Jesus but starting
from His temptation until the
Pentecost. With this, arrange the
chronological order of the events
until Easter ends.
67. Learning Task 5: Easter Iskolastican Attitude
Write the
appropriate attitude
attitude for each of
of the activity you
do inside the St.
Scho campus.

Admirable Saint and Doctor of Humility, you practiced what you taught, assiduously praying for God's glory and lovingly fulfilling all work for God and the benefit of all human beings. You know the many physical dangers that surround us today often caused or occasioned by human inventions. Guard us against poisoning of the body as well as of mind and soul, and thus be truly a "Blessed" one for us. Amen.
