The speaker welcomes new students to SAU and encourages them to take advantage of opportunities at the university. Students should get involved in activities but remember their primary purpose is to study. As they are in China, students should respect local culture and customs. Most importantly, the speaker urges students to learn Mandarin, saying it is the key to opportunities in China. Teachers are available to help students with any questions. The speaker wishes students well in their studies and reminds them that their future success depends on fully engaging with their education at SAU.
1. Good evening teachers, fellow students and freshmen of SAU
About four years ago, I sat here at your seat to be welcomed into this great institution.
Well, we are all coming fromdifferent places with different way of life to an institution with
has their own style of rules designed to accommodate all of us.
Get all the fun of this university; enjoy each activity that is held in the university. Make
yourself at ease here and never forget you can do all the things that you want, but yet not all
the things are good for you, even more don’tforget you are here as a Student.
Look around and see! You are in CHINA the mostgrowing country in the world. And you
the PARTof it! See and seek the opportunities then make the maximum advantageof it. We
value and respectyour various traditions and cultures. But as you are in china learn to respect
the culture and their way of life. For it‘s said “when you in Rome do whatthe Romans do”. Eat
the food if you can, learn the tradition if you can, but most importantly I urge you to learn the
language by all means. For I tell you today china is at your door step in your country and your
only key to that is the language.
The teachers and seniors arehere to help you, in any of your enquiry, so don’tbother.
Make the good use of it!
Not all of you might finish in the fourth year studies. This is basically due to your way of
life. Choosethe one that is good for you, and I wish you well.
Finally remember to make the school pass through you and don’t justpass through the
school. For many people pass through the schoolevery day, they are the cooks, the drives, the
cleaners and many more. But if the school passes through you, you stand out to be the
engineer, the economistor whatever coursethat the schoolteaches you.
Your futurewith this institution is in your hands, so now make it how you want it. Thank
you people, enjoy the show and Welcome to SAU
