Long Sutton Primary are delighted to welcome….
Tim Rylands and Sarah Neild
Tim’s sessions in schools involve practical hands-on experience, for teachers and support staff, looking at many different ways to
motivate, inspire and enliven the curriculum. This is paired up with the opportunity to watch Tim working with a large group of stu-
dents – a chance to see the teaching styles in action.
Tim travels the length and breadth of the UK, and all across the world including Holland, Qatar, Denmark, Hungary, Switzerland and,
most recently, China.
Tim has presented keynote speeches, seminars and workshops at such events as BETT and many regional and international ICT
and Literacy conferences. We are very proud that this is Tim’s first INSET delivery in Lincolnshire.
Two award winning teachers, sharing a vast amount
of ways to use technology to motivate and inspire
children of all ages and abilities.
“Laughter and learning combined...to great effect!”
2. “I stepped out into a landscape of
almost unbearable beauty, a feath-
ered sky stretching out across the
silken sea, warm sand beneath my
feet. Turning, I saw steps, foot
worn and timeless, winding down-
wards. Where would they lead
me?'”

Tim Rylands, winner of the 2005
Becta ICT in Practice Award, and
Sarah Neild, a finalist of the 2004
Becta ICT in Practice Award, will
present many inspiring, accessible
tools and ideas for raising the level
of writing, speaking and listening,
and creativity in children of all
ages.
A practical exploration of some of
the virtual worlds and visual
literacy elements that have had a
huge impact on raising children’s
confidence across the creative
curriculum. Come prepared to be
inspired and to leave with many
practical ideas to apply back in the
classroom.
In this goal driven age, we could
think that education is imparting a
body of knowledge, rather than a
shared journey of discovery. There
are so many pressures put upon
educators these days that
enjoyment, inspiration, creativity,
and fun can be forced out of the
classroom.
We need to inspire young people
and inspire their imaginations;
enhance their creativity and confi-
dence so they can pick ideas up
and start to juggle with them;
encourage resourcefulness
through challenge, but also the
ability to reflect, change and
benefit from the experience of
others; to motivate a love of
learning for life.
Fascination is a tool that can be
easily neglected. This digital world,
when mixed with the analogue,
brings such potential for
communication.
Technology is not the only
answer... but, it does open up
some remarkable opportunities, to
extend teaching and learning
styles.
We will take apart the powerful
effect of using games, many useful
Web2 tools and software (most of
it free), hand-held devices and
more, - modelling a way of
teaching, where quality learning is
the focus rather than the latest
gadget; ‘what is said, rather than
what is used to say it’.
Investigating how virtual worlds,
with their stunning , peaceful
characters and realistic challenges,
can be used across subject areas,
abilities age ranges, with
remarkable effects: developing
speaking, listening and writing
abilities and raising confidence and
self-esteem.
As well as showing a huge, and
accessible, range of ways to en-
gage, and motivate students of all
ages, and abilities,
Tim and Sarah will reinforce how
these elements are not only
essential for quality learning
experiences to take place, but how
they can also have a massive
impact on standards, achievement
... and enjoyment!

Tim will lead sessions at Long Sutton School, working with our children
in a classroom situation. The morning session will be Key Stage Two
focused (Y5 pupils) and the afternoon session will be with Key Stage

This will provide an opportunity to be part of unique, valuable
classroom based training experience. Our school hall will be laid out in a
traditional classroom style, and teachers will be mixed in amongst the
pupils. There are limited free places for these sessions due to keeping a
reasonable pupil:teacher ratio.
Please indicate on the booking form expressing an interest as to
whether you wish to attend this extra day, or part of it, in addition to
the full day’s training on the Monday. Places will be allocated on a first
come, first served basis and places for
