Botticelli, Sandro (c1445-1510) was the most individual, if not the most influential, painter in Florence at the end of the 15th century Renaissance. He spent almost all his life in his native Florence. At the peak of his career, Botticelli was the most sought-after painter in the city and head of a thriving workshop His only important journey outside Florence was made when he was on the of the artists chosen to decorate the Sistine Chapel in Rome – The most prestigious commission of the day. This presentation included three of his most popular and important paintings today – The Birth of Venus, La Primavera and Venus and Mars. The presentation explores the meanings behind these the great iconic paintings of the Renaissance

Renaissance Art Appreciation IP3 Name Class Date Professor Renaissance Paintings Abstract The following essay will discuss two pieces of art from the Renaissance period. The first is Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa which is the most well known painting of all times. The other piece of art that will be discussed was also created by the Renaissance by the great Michelangelo. Both of the pieces of art provide an important record of art during this time period. Renaissance Art The Renaissance was the rebirth of society after the Middle Ages. Believed to have begun in 14th Century Italy, the Renaissance was a revival of classical learning and the arts. New techniques in art and science began a new cultural movement focused on gaining and spreading knowledge. Art and science was intertwined during this era with great artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci who applied polymath to his drawings, resulting in some of the most visually spectacular art created in human history. Two of the greatest artist during the Italian Renaissance was Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Da Vinci greatest masterpiece was the Mona Lisa while Michelangelo’s greatest works are the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel especially the Last Judgment. Mona Lisa The Mona Lisa was created by one of the greatest artist in the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci painted the very famous Mona Lisa between the dates of 1503-1506 in Florence, Italy and currently hangs in the Louvre. The Mona Lisa is painted in oil on poplar wood and is two dimensional. This painting is owned by the French government and is the most well known painting in the world. It is believed the portrait is of the wife of a wealthy Florentine merchant who commissioned da Vinci to create the portrait but for some reason the merchant never received the portrait so it was carried to France when da Vinci went to work for King Francis I. The fascination with the painting is in part due to the mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa. Many have speculated what she was smiling about with some believing the smile is for her husband’s while others believed the smile was for da Vinci. The painting was created in the realist school applying perception as taught by Master painter, Verocchio. The Mona Lisa is painted in this style. The Mona Lisa is painted from the frontal view point displaying three fourths of her body. The painting is created applying the scientific study of light and shadow and the chiaroscuro technique. This technique involves creating a more three dimensional figure by applying shadows and light to the painting. The painting is painted in oil using darker colors to shadow and lighter colors to highlight distinct features of the painting. Leonardo uses his characteristic sfumato which is the use of a smoky haziness, to soften outlines and create an atmospheric effect around the figure (Lichfield, 2006). REPLY TO THE DISCUSSIONS · DIS 1 Trace the evolution and development of art through the periods of the Early Renaissance to the High Renaissance. · Explain what primarily distinguishes Renaissance art in general from the prior period. · Compare and contrast the work of an Italian Renaissance artist with a work done by a northern European Renaissance artist, considering style, content, and form. · Include a discussion of the different concerns and heritages of the Italian and Northern Renaissance artists and how these resulted in different characteristics in the art work of each region. Be sure to use the new art vocabulary you are learning as you describe the artworks. RELAY TO: Norfleet Week 3, Discussion 1 COLLAPSE Top of Form During the Renaissance period lots of changes were made within the world of art and the concept of it all. During that period so many new ways and concepts of how art was done, whether it be sculptures, paintings, or any other type of art. Renaissance art differed from the prior period, because a lot more architecture was being created and had a whole new perspective and deeper sense of dimensional effects. The work between an Italian Renaissance artist and a Northern European Renaissance artist contrast by, focusing on the different details and abilities when it came to their art. Italian artist liked to focus and understand more of the human anatomy aspects of the art, and the northern focused more on surface details and naturalism. The northern also like to focus on portraits, while the Italian focused more on classical mythology. The Italian and northern European artist compared by, both focusing on religious scenes of art and glorifying the power of God. They both also focused on making paintings and different art more realistic. The different concerns and heritages of the Italian and Northern Renaissance artists that resulted in the different characteristics would be, the way both of them viewed and had a perspective on how their own art should be. Both worshiped and focused a lot towards the higher power and God, but at the same time even has nudity within their different artworks. RELAY TO: Harrison Week 3 Discussion 1 COLLAPSE Top of Form Within art, the earliest century of the Renaissance has many differences from previous periods of time. During the Renaissance time period, the artist focused on recreating nature in the form of art and primarily focused on the underlying beauty of nature and how nature plays a vital role in the day to day life. Renaissance art is one of the only types of art that does not focus or generate ideas from religion but rather focuses on the idea of real-life and the linear perspective. The Early Renaissance began in Italy, which led to the realism aspect that would eventually become the center of Renaissance art. Beginning in the 14th century, the artist Masaccio was the most popular artist during this time. Masaccio became famous for his work within churches, specifical.

Poster to be presented at Stochastic Numerics and Statistical Learning: Theory and Applications Workshop 2024, Kaust, Saudi Arabia, https://cemse.kaust.edu.sa/stochnum/events/event/snsl-workshop-2024. In this work we have considered a setting that mimics the Henry problem \cite{Simpson2003,Simpson04_Henry}, modeling seawater intrusion into a 2D coastal aquifer. The pure water recharge from the ``land side'' resists the salinisation of the aquifer due to the influx of saline water through the ``sea side'', thereby achieving some equilibrium in the salt concentration. In our setting, following \cite{GRILLO2010}, we consider a fracture on the sea side that significantly increases the permeability of the porous medium. The flow and transport essentially depend on the geological parameters of the porous medium, including the fracture. We investigated the effects of various uncertainties on saltwater intrusion. We assumed uncertainties in the fracture width, the porosity of the bulk medium, its permeability and the pure water recharge from the land side. The porosity and permeability were modeled by random fields, the recharge by a random but periodic intensity and the thickness by a random variable. We calculated the mean and variance of the salt mass fraction, which is also uncertain. The main question we investigated in this work was how well the MLMC method can be used to compute statistics of different QoIs. We found that the answer depends on the choice of the QoI. First, not every QoI requires a hierarchy of meshes and MLMC. Second, MLMC requires stable convergence rates for $\EXP{g_{\ell} - g_{\ell-1}}$ and $\Var{g_{\ell} - g_{\ell-1}}$. These rates should be independent of $\ell$. If these convergence rates vary for different $\ell$, then it will be hard to estimate $L$ and $m_{\ell}$, and MLMC will either not work or be suboptimal. We were not able to get stable convergence rates for all levels $\ell=1,\ldots,5$ when the QoI was an integral as in \eqref{eq:integral_box}. We found that for $\ell=1,\ldots 4$ and $\ell=5$ the rate $\alpha$ was different. Further investigation is needed to find the reason for this. Another difficulty is the dependence on time, i.e. the number of levels $L$ and the number of sums $m_{\ell}$ depend on $t$. At the beginning the variability is small, then it increases, and after the process of mixing salt and fresh water has stopped, the variance decreases again. The number of random samples required at each level was estimated by calculating the decay of the variances and the computational cost for each level. These estimates depend on the minimisation function in the MLMC algorithm. To achieve the efficiency of the MLMC approach presented in this work, it is essential that the complexity of the numerical solution of each random realisation is proportional to the number of grid vertices on the grid levels.

Quantitative Genetics: - Heritability and genetic advance - Statistical methods in plant breeding - QTL mapping #### Detailed Question Paper Analysis Now, let's analyze a previous year’s question paper to understand the types of questions asked and the best ways to approach them. Section 1: Fundamentals of Genetics Example Question: Which of the following is NOT a part of Mendel's Laws? - A) Law of Segregation - B) Law of Independent Assortment - C) Law of Dominance - D) Law of Uniformity Analysis: This question tests your basic understanding of Mendelian genetics. To tackle such questions, ensure you are well-versed with the core principles of genetics. Revising basic concepts from standard textbooks like "Principles of Genetics" by Gardner et al. can be highly beneficial. Section 2: Plant Breeding Techniques Example Question: In plant breeding, the method where two plants with desirable traits are crossed is known as: - A) Backcrossing - B) Hybridization - C) Mutation breeding - D) Polyploidy Analysis: Questions in this section often require applied knowledge of breeding techniques. Focus on understanding the different methods of plant breeding, their applications, and examples. Books like "Plant Breeding: Principles and Methods" by B.D. Singh can provide comprehensive coverage of these topics.
