All pupils will be able to know what goes
into a newspaper article,and start thinking
abouthow to gear it towards an intended
readership.Students will write their own
paragraph in the lesson time permitted.

Formative & summative
Formative
 Matching elements ofnewspaper in Shakespeare article – students will be given labels to
match on the Shakespeare article.They will complete this in groups, and will also learn
what goes into a newspaper article
 Brief explanations ofeach element – after discussion of each element,students will write
a one sentence summary for each. This will remind students what each elementis
 Headlines – what persuasive techniques are used to draw the reader in? Students will
discuss this and write down some of the techniques used.
 Direct vs. reported speech – differences between directand reported speech. Students
will have to change from directto reported and visa versa.
 Opening paragraph – students will have to analyse opening paragraph ofthe article,
writing down what they learn from it.
 Developing a newspaper report – discussing the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of a newspaper
Cognitive challenges:
Desirable difficulties for all abilities; how will students progress?
To write an opening of a newspaper report – students will recall a time where
something major happened in their lives. They will mindmap some of their ideas
and then write it using the details I have given them.
EBT strategies:
e.g. APK, reciprocal teaching, collaborative learning, advance & visual organisers,
similarities and differences, goals, repetition and practice, meta-cognition, feedback,
cognitive challenge, subject knowledge, summaries and note-taking
 APK – students will use their prior knowledge to think about newspapers
 Collaborative learning – students will be in groups when looking at the
newspaper article

Lesson Plan pro forma Class: 8NE (mixed ability sets) indicate levels of attainment Date: 28.4.2016 Time: 12:20 – 13:25 No. of pupils: 28 Unit /SoW: Romeo & Juliet Shakespeare Unit Key Learning Goals: ref. to exam board criteria/NC as appropriate Shakespeare - reading a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, including in particular whole books, short stories, poems and plays with a wide coverage of genres, historical periods, forms and authors. … in pupil-friendly format: LO: To know what is to be included in a newspaper article To know the purpose of a newspaper article Expected Learning Outcomes: all pupils? some pupils? a few pupils? All pupils will be able to know what goes into a newspaper article,and start thinking abouthow to gear it towards an intended readership.Students will write their own paragraph in the lesson time permitted. Opportunities for Assessment: Formative & summative Formative  Matching elements ofnewspaper in Shakespeare article – students will be given labels to match on the Shakespeare article.They will complete this in groups, and will also learn what goes into a newspaper article  Brief explanations ofeach element – after discussion of each element,students will write a one sentence summary for each. This will remind students what each elementis  Headlines – what persuasive techniques are used to draw the reader in? Students will discuss this and write down some of the techniques used.  Direct vs. reported speech – differences between directand reported speech. Students will have to change from directto reported and visa versa.  Opening paragraph – students will have to analyse opening paragraph ofthe article, writing down what they learn from it.  Developing a newspaper report – discussing the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of a newspaper Cognitive challenges: Desirable difficulties for all abilities; how will students progress? To write an opening of a newspaper report – students will recall a time where something major happened in their lives. They will mindmap some of their ideas and then write it using the details I have given them.
