2. OH HEY, WE’RE MAMMALS!
Egos aside, we share 90% of our DNA with dogs, mice, cows and
elephants. 99% with primates.
3. LET’S PRETEND WE’RE NOT.
What causes tension, conflict and lack of alignment? Why is a great culture so hard
to achieve? The answers are buried in our nature.
4. WHAT WE CHASE
What savvy marketers know, but we often don’t:
emotion, not logic, drives behavior.
Of 34,000 emotions, only a tiny fraction consistently
motivate us over time – the ones connected to our 13
core needs, and how we feel when they’re met.
We all share these needs and emotions, but we each
prioritize them differently.
How do you want to feel? Safe? Free? Connected?
Curious? Creative? Seen? Accomplished? In control?
How does your team or customers want to feel? Do
you know?
5. WHAT WE AVOID
Those same needs are clues to what we
consistently run from or block (that’s why we call
them the ‘human cheat codes.’)
Want to feel free? Then you’ll avoid feeling trapped.
Want to feel curiosity? You’ll avoid boredom or
stagnation.
Want to feel belonging and connection? You’ll
avoid independence.
What do you avoid? What do your team members
avoid?
6. HOW WE’RE WIRED
Hello, neurodiversity!
Roughly 20% of the population process
information quite differently from the rest.
What’s blindingly obvious to one isn’t even visible
by others.
This marvelous variety in human brain wiring means
people have unique challenges, skills, vision, and
even realities.
And many in this minority feel different but don’t
know why or how, so we try to fit in.
7. OUR NERVOUS SYSTEMS
Stress, burnout, old buried trauma… they all take
their tolls.
The capacity to regulate our own nervous systems
is underdeveloped in today’s society and
workplaces.
We learn regulation as babies from our parents. If
they were dysregulated, chances are that we’ll be
too.
Your team is influenced by your nervous system;
time to lead through co-regulation!
8. Concave, with rounded shoulders.
Erect and tall.
Arms crossed, held tight.
Body relaxed, arms wide.
What is your body subconsciously telling you and
others about your inner state?
This is called Somatics (related to the body) or
enteroception (our ability to sense our inner states).
It’s the secret not only to leadership presence, but also
regulating our emotional states.
HOW WE HOLD OURSELVES
9. ACTIVATE YOUR WHOLE MIND
Effective leaders are masterful at harnessing
these forces and ways of processing
information.
They know their (and their teams’) strengths
and gaps, and can orchestrate this diversity.
We call it the Whole Mind Leader™.
This holistic approach to being, not doing,
can transform your culture.
