2. 3 RECENT INITIATIVES
1. Monthly Eco-Chats
2. 2012 Book and Film Series
3. Contributions to community discussions
a. Golf course re-use
b. Regional storefront co-op
c. Green community committee
d. 129 Parker Street
3. 3 SUCCESSES AND BEST PRACTICES
¢ Did initial greenhouse gas inventory for town,
laying groundwork for becoming a green
community. Also helped legitimize group.
¢ Energy fairs in early years raised awareness of
group presence.
¢ Rain barrel and compost bin pick-up days
¢ Strong interface with other community groups
— Litter league
— Community garden
4. 2 LESSONS LEARNED
¢ Just existing as an interest group helps town
officials move forward on green initiatives (e.g.
solar farm, green community designation)
¢ Rotating leadership annually helps distribute the
effort and prevent burnout. Having two co-chairs
helps maintain momentum as personal energy
ebbs and flows.
5. 2 PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR
¢ Another rain barrel and compost bins drop-off
day – hopefully with neighboring town(s)
¢ Decide on new leaders
6. 2 METROWEST COLLABORATION IDEAS
¢ Make a calendar of annual or bi-annual pot-lucks
hosted by the various towns in the Metrowest to
network and have fun together, build community
and support.
¢ Start a metrowest listserv and or quarterly
newsletter for items of interest to all.
