2. • Within this shot, already the visual imagines are shown through a old retro camera
which is seen as “Cool” these day’s and this can bring more attention to younger
audience as this is seen a trend in modern British/American society. The first few scene
are very quick and only last up to 3 seconds or so, which tends to follow the typical
conventions of a music video. Also the music begins to be quiet dim and low toned
which juxtaposes very well with the retro visual to give almost a old authentic home
made music video.
3. • The are only a few references to voyeurism in this music video but one of them starts at
the beginning of the music video where a young man is filming a girl on a retro camera
and supposedly she is making “seductive” looks as she is being filmed. This applies to
Andrew Goodwins music video conventions. Also the use of filming while on a open
back car whilst driving through what looks to be the desert also gives this idea that’s
apart of today youths “American Dream”.
4. As the music video progresses, we’re already have a idea of that this is more for youth
culture as shown in the image below, firstly a girl graffiti’s a post sign while in a hoody
presents a rebellious nature modern day teenagers/young adults. Also She Graffiti’s
“WASTED YOUTH” which a very familiar phrase with youth, this can also associate with
the Tumblrisation on music video’s. Also the use of a skate boarder promotes this idea of
youths as its seen as a popular activity and looks to give a more like boyish presentation.
5. • There are some direct links from the lyrics to the music video which illustrated the music
video and this happens multiple times across the video, here we are shown in a medium
long shot a few youths jumping over a fence into someone’s back yard/garden and the
direct to the lyrics “And all the words that we couldn't say, In the backyards where we
used to stay”, which shows relations from the lyrics to the video.
6. • Here we have a performance shot from the band which related to the typical conventions
of a indie band and show the playing of their instruments are in sync to the music. The
instruments played are also that of a typical indie band with the roles of a
Vocal, Guitarist, Bass and Keys. Also associating all the members clothing tends to be
rather simplistic with graphic tee’s and shirts which can relate to the indie/hipster fashion
trend.
7. • There are also many close up shots of the lead vocalist which applies to
Andrew Goodwins convention of a music video as record companies are
on demand to feature more of the lead singers appearance in the
video, especially if they have a handsome/beautiful appearance. The fact
that more of the lead vocalist appears in the video the more they’ll get
recognised by the public.
