Students In Action is a national youth volunteer leadership, recognition and reward program, designed to pass the tradition of service on to the next generation. Co-developed by Jefferson Awards for Public Service and Deloitte, it is now in over 250 High Schools. Each spring, Student Leaders from the participating schools compete in regional competitions. They are asked to report on the implementation of the program, and the impact they've had, both in their schools and within their communities.

- Introduce your team. Explain the structure, who does what, and why it is successful. Do you have a succession plan? Did you attend both leadership training sessions? If not, why?
- a. Are your principal and faculty coordinator involved? If so, explain how they support SIA in your school. b. How do you effectively connect with volunteers and volunteer organizations in your school to find compelling stories of outstanding volunteerism? c. How do you get the Jefferson Awards message out to your school? Any best practices? (i.e. Utilizing school website, message boards, newsletters etc.)
- a. Are you giving out awards for outstanding volunteer activity in your school on a regular basis? a. How do you present the awards (i.e. at assembly, in the classroom or other ways?) Are the awards visible and recognized by the students in your school? b. Do you have a “ H elp desk for help” and is it positioned that way? Are you helping students find volunteer opportunities in your community? Helping other students organize volunteer activities? c. Have you utilized Project Rocket/project management skills to plan any volunteer or fundraising activities? d. Are you tracking the impact of volunteer hours? How much has it increased?
- a. Have you done any SIA specific fundraising? What kind of fundraising activities did you do and how much did you raise? How did you allocate the money raised? b. Have you helped other students with fundraising efforts? If so, how?
- a. How do you get the stories out to the local media? Have you used your press training to send out press releases? If so, where and was it covered in the media ? If not, explain challenges.
- Have you recruited a new school? If not, what challenges did you face and how do you plan to overcome these challenges next year? Have you collaborated with other schools in the program to come up with new ideas or to help them with their program?
- Explain any creative ideas to achieve the goals above – tell us about your ideas, best practices, how you have improved the SIA program this year and how you plan to continue to improve next year!
