Introduction
This story is a fictional story about an 18 year old white girl named
Hara Weatherson who is a recent graduate from her high school in a small
town named Coffeeville, Mississippi; a town in Yalobusha County. She
was born in Miami, Florida to her mom Katheran Weatherson and father
Haramod Weatherson. Her father was a big time criminal defense lawyer
and heir to a family oil company that his parents owned. Her father died
in a fatal car accident when she was just two years old. Her mom sued the
truck company and received millions along with the house and money
left to her and Hara in his will. Katheran also becomes owner of the law
firm. Katheran soon moved Hara from Miami, Florida to Coffeeville,
Mississippi where she grew up at. Katheran married a guy named Allen
Wooden. Hara’s mom and stepdad were very wealthy so all her life she
always had gotten mostly anything she wanted. Coffeeville was all Hara
had known since she was two years old. Hara craved to live somewhere
no one knew her; she craved adventure. After graduating high school she
decided to go to college at TSU which is Texas State University in San
Marcos, Texas which was 684.52 miles away from Coffeeville, Mississippi;
where she reunites with her high school ex-boyfriend, Bishop Summers
and also became friends with a guy named Stephen Golden. Stephen
had become obsessed with her the first time he looked into her eyes but
once Hara and Bishop gets back into a relationship. Stephen finds out
about it. Stephen teamed up with one of Hara’s fellow female roommate
and plotted to break them up. Once the break up back fired and things
don’t go the way Stephen planned it. He kidnapped Hara, held hostage,
beat, and raped her inside of his barn for three weeks. A day within those
three weeks; Stephen will force Hara (by gun point) to make her family
viii

and friends think she just wanted to be left alone. She turned her mom,
friends, and Bishop away. Stephen also forced her to quit college. Katheran
(Hara’s mom) isn’t convinced by Hara’s new attitude and had a strange
feeling something wasn’t right. So she contacted a private investigator and
longtime friend, named Henry Crenshaw to help her find Hara. They also
teamed up with Bishop to find Hara. The journey to find Hara will be
easy; the journey to rescue Hara will be very challenging and dangerous.
They will have to put a plan together to rescue her.

Chapter 1
About Hara & Hara’s
Family Background
This story starts in Coffeeville, Mississippi; the population in Coffeeville
was 922. It was mostly populated with African Americans. There were only
two schools in the small town; the elementary school which was Pre-K
through 7th
grade and the high school which was 8th
grade through 12th
grade. This high school was where Hara had recently graduated from
with honors. She graduated top of her class, with a scholarship to go to
any college or university she chose. She chose to go to TSU (Texas State
University). She had already done her research on many different colleges
and universities but she just so happened to fall in love with TSU. She had
been told by the university administrators of TSU over the phone about
how well she would prosper educationally by going to TSU. So, one day
Katheran (Hara’s mom), Allen Jr. (Hara’s brother), and Hara visited the
university to check it out for their selves. The professors were friendly,
the administrators were polite, and welcomed them with open arms. The
atmosphere was very peaceful; Hara enjoyed the whole experience, and
was really convinced that she was going to enroll at TSU. The University
reminded her of the high school she recently graduated from but the
difference between the high school and TSU was she knew no one there.
This difference was exciting for Hara being that everyone at her high school
knew her. Hara was very popular all through her high school years by black
people and white people. In a small town where there was a lot of conflict
and discrimination between the two races; a white girl being popular
2
Jaytilya M. Watkins
among both races was very usual. None of that bothered Hara; she didn’t
judge anyone or act hateful towards anyone because of the color of their
skin. She treated everyone fairly and was very friendly to everyone. She had
white friends and black friends. She had two best friends that were black
and two best friends that were white. Rozesita Chambers was her female
black best friend along with her brother who was named Todd Chambers.
Courtney Knapp was her female white best friend and Cameron Wilson
was her male white best friend. Rozesita was a year older than Todd and
a grade ahead of Todd. Rozesita and Hara were the same age and in the
same grade. Rozesita and Hara had been best friends since the 2nd
grade
so it was only natural for Hara to become best friends with Todd as well.
Rozesita and Todd’s mom, (Veta Chambers) also became friends with
Hara’s mom, (Katheran Wooden). Veta was a single mom who had been a
cashier at the supermarket in Coffeeville for 5 years before Katheran gave
her a job working as an assistant at her and her husband’s car dealership
in Coffeeville. Rozesita and Todd didn’t have a father figure in their lives.
Both of their fathers walked out on their mother while they were still
infants. Veta was their mother and their father. Whenever Veta would be
working, Rozesita and Todd would have to stay with a neighbor or relative
until she got off work. She would have to pay them for babysitting her
kids. Even though, she worked long hours; she would always make sure
their homework was done and they were doing well in school. She would
always encourage them to make good grades and go to college because she
didn’t want them to follow the same path as she did growing up. She always
talked to them and disciplined them when they would do something
wrong. Katheran Wooden’s (Hara mom’s) life was quite different from
Veta’s (Rozesita & Todd’s mom) life. Katheran was a millionaire due to
the death of her first husband (Hara’s father) although her family already
had a little money before she married him. His (Hara’s father) name was
Haramod Weatherson. He was a big time criminal defense attorney; he was
also next in line to own his father’s multi-billion dollars oil company after
he died. Katheran was his secretary. He was 30 years old and Katheran
was just 20 years old when they first met. Katheran came into his law firm
one day for an interview to get the secretary position. Once they saw each
other, they both became intrigued with one another. He hired her as his
secretary. He didn’t even care about whether or not she had experience.
He trained her, his self on how to file paperwork, answer phones, and
everything pertaining to secretary work. After a week, all of the training

paid off. Katheran was doing a greater job at being a secretary than a
secretary who had been a secretary for years. Haramod and Katheran fell
in love with each other, within three months, got married in six months,
and had Hara a year later. They were so happy, they both adored Hara. The
happiness was short lived and would soon sour two years later.

More About Hara’s
Familys’ Background
Haramod was driving through Miami, Florida (where Katheran and
Haramod lived) he was on his way to the court house to represent one of his
clients in a court case. He stopped at a red light, an 18 wheeler behind him
was going so fast until he wasn’t able to stop. The 18 wheeler hit Haramod
from behind very hard, pushing him into the oncoming traffic. He got hit
again by the other cars. The truck still wasn’t able to stop and also hit the
other cars too. Many people cars got damaged along with their selves but
it was Haramod who was the most injured. His car was so damaged the
firefighters had to cut him out of the car. He was fatally injured, Katheran
and Hara wasn’t in the car with him at the time. Katheran was at the law
firm office; filing paperwork, and taking calls. Hara was at daycare. When
the ambulance arrived and tried to revive him, they wasn’t successful, so
they took him to the hospital in the ambulance and tried to revive him
there for an hour but nothing worked. They pronounced him dead after
an hour. Katheran received a call from the hospital that was unexpected.
When the hospital staff told her that her husband was in the hospital due to
a car accident and she needed to come to the hospital right away; Katheran
dropped everything she was doing, left the office, and rushed through
traffic just to get to the hospital to see Haramod. She prayed and prayed to
Jesus for Haramod to be okay. When arriving at the hospital she told the
nurses who she was and who she was there to see, they gave her the look of
pity, they told the doctor and they let her go into the E/R. The doctor told
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception

her Haramod was dead. Katheran burst into tears as the doctor escorted
her into the room where the corpse of her husband was. She saw Haramod’s
bruised, bloody, lifeless body lying on the hospital bed. She ran to the bed,
grabbed Haramod, and laid him in her arms while leaning back and forth
crying, “No, No, No, No.” She held him the whole time crying until the
driver for the funeral home came to pick him up. She didn’t want to let him
go then. When Katheran lost Haramod, it devastated her but made her
very wealthy. Haramod wrote out a will and set up a trust fund for Hara
two months after she was born. Hara would receive the trust fund which
was $500,000 after she graduated from high school. Haramod had it in
a will, that if he died, he wanted his wife and baby girl to inherit his $80
million dollars in the bank that his father gave him, his $100,000 dollar
home, and 500 acres of land. His reason for writing this will and trust
fund was so if anything was to happen to him, his family would be secure.
He didn’t want his family to have to beg anyone for nothing. Haramod’s
funeral was very sad and depressing. Haramod’s family, ex-clients, current
clients, his staff at his firm, and Katheran’s family all came to his funeral.
Katheran and Hara were there too, but Hara was too young to know
what was going on; she was only two years old at the time. Katheran was
so upset about the love of her life’s death that when Haramod’s coffin
was going down into the ground at the burial site; she tried to jump into
the ground with it, relatives and others had to stop her. Weeks after the
funeral, Katheran was still grieving about Haramod but became furious at
the company of the truck driver who caused the accident and death of her
husband. She took $5,000 dollars out of the bank, paid for an attorney who
represented cases involving car accidents, and tried to sue the company of
B & B Hauling for $20 million dollars but settled for $7 million dollars
in court. She also wanted an apology from the company and for them to
fire that truck driver who caused her husband’s death. The truck driver had
already been fired so they gave her $7 million dollars and an apology. She
could’ve tried to get more but she didn’t, she was okay with just that. She
already had millions of dollars, a house, and a law firm so she didn’t push
the issue. Haramod’s parents also gave her $30 million dollars for her and
Hara to live on. Katheran set up another trust fund for Hara in the amount
of $20 million dollars for her to receive once she turned 21 years old. Since
Haramod was dead, he could no longer be heir to the oil company that his
parent’s owned so that went to his brother, Arnold Weatherson.

More About Hara &
Family Background
Although Katheran had the wealth that most women craved for, that
wasn’t enough to mend her broken heart. Every area in her two-story home
reminded her of Haramod. Places in Miami reminded her of Haramod.
So, she made an decision one night (after crying her eyeballs out) to put
the house up for rent; move her, Hara, and her housemaid away from
Miami and to Coffeeville, Mississippi where her father was living at and
where she was born and raised at. She made this decision a month after
Haramod’s death. Her father was thrilled to find out Katheran was going
to move back there. He searched for some houses that were for sale in
Coffeeville that Katheran could purchase. He found her a house and 200
arches of land for sale that she could buy. The location where the house
and land were wasn’t too far away from where he lived. It had a six bedroom,
two baths, a kitchen, and dine-in room in it. Just like the house that she
and Haramod lived in, it had an upstairs/downstairs but unlike the house
that her and Haramod shared; it had a swimming pool. Haramod didn’t
want a swimming pool at the house he and Katheran shared because he
didn’t know how to swim. Katheran knew how to swim so when her father
told her the house had a swimming pool in it, she became excited about it
and wanted to buy it. Her father mailed her the paperwork to buy it. She
filled out the documents and mailed it back along with the check she wrote
out to buy the house. The price for the house was $100,000. The price
didn’t matter to Katheran, she would’ve paid $500,000; she just wanted
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception
7
to move away from Miami. She didn’t want to get constantly reminded
that Haramod was gone and was never coming back. She thought if she
could have a fresh start by moving to another state, it would help her to
slowly erase her memories she had of her dead husband. She also didn’t
want Hara to grow up in Miami living a fast life. She wanted Hara to have
a peaceful life growing up in a small town like Coffeeville, Mississippi. A
week later, she moved Hara, herself, and the housemaid to Coffeeville,
Mississippi. She drove the whole way. Behind her car followed; the
housemaid in her own car, and four U-Haul trucks carrying their
belongings. It took them a couple of days to get to Coffeeville, Mississippi
but they finally arrived. When they pulled into the yard, her father (Mr.
Windull) and stepmom (Mrs.Windull) who had been waiting for them to
arrive in the house welcomed them in with open arms. Her father and
stepmom had both taken off work just to wait inside the house for them
until they arrived. Mr. Windull gave Katheran and Hara a hug when they
arrived. He also gave Katheran the key to the house. Life in Coffeeville for
Katheran and Hara became great. But memories of Haramod still lingered
in Katheran’s mind. Hara looked exactly like her father, Haramod. Hara
only had Katheran’s sky blue eyes, but she had brunette hair and facial
features like her father. Every time Katheran would look at Hara, she saw
Haramod staring back at her. Katheran learned how to cope with this and
grew to look at it as a blessing. She loved her daughter and gave her
everything her little heart desired and everything she needed. A year later,
she met Allen Wooden. He was a firefighter for Coffeeville. They became
a couple after five months of dating. The love she had for him didn’t come
as quickly as the love she had for Haramod because she still had love for
him even though he was dead. He still was in her heart. But Allen was
head over heels in love with her. He was aware of the death of her departed
husband and understood she still had love for him; but he didn’t care about
that. He told her he would give her all of the time in the world that she
needed to get over him. He knew she would never completely lose all of
her love for him because she had a baby by him and he accepted that fact.
Allen was crazy about Hara too and treated Hara as if she was his own
daughter. Katheran watched how he acted towards Hara and noticed that.
That made her fall for him even more. One day, Allen took Katheran,
Hara, Mr. and Mrs. Windull (Katheran’s father and stepmom), and Barba
(the housemaid) out to eat at a fancy restaurant in Coffeeville. In the
middle of everybody at the table socializing and laughing, Allen got
8
Jaytilya M. Watkins
everyone’s attention, he declared his love for Katheran, got down on one
knee, and proposed to her. He proposed to her with a 50 karat gold ring;
Katheran said yes. It had only been seven months they had been in a
relationship together. Even though, she had strong feelings for him, she
still didn’t love him in the same way that she loved Haramod but she
realized she needed to open another chapter in her life, plus she wanted
Hara to have a father figure in her life. To Katheran, Allen would make a
perfect father figure for her daughter. So, the next day, they went to the
courthouse in Coffeeville and got married. Her marriage to Haramod was
different; she had a wedding dress, bride’s maids, flower girl, a church, and
everything that you would dream of in a wedding. This time around, she
just wanted something quick and simple. Allen tried to offer her a fancy
wedding but she didn’t want it. She asked Allen, “Why spend unnecessary
money on things that you don’t even have to spend money on.” Allen
accepted what Katheran wanted, he didn’t care whether they had a wedding
or not. He just wanted to be married to the woman of his dreams which
was Katheran. Hara was three years old when they got married. Allen
moved into Katheran’s house, quit his job, and they went into business
together. They became owners of their own car dealership called, “A & K’s
Car Dealership.” The business was very successful and very profitable
financially. Followed by their success was a pregnancy. Hara was four years
old when her brother Allen Wooden Jr. was born. Allen was so full of joy
in the delivery room of the hospital in Coffeeville. Hara was also happy
about her new baby brother. She said he was her baby. Even though,
Katheran had a daughter and a son, she was always closer to Hara than she
was with Allen Jr., mainly because Hara was the oldest and the same sex
as her. But she loved both of her kids the same and spoiled them both. She
also set up a trust fund for Allen Jr. in the amount of $20 million that he
would receive after he turned 21 years old. Although, Allen had a son by
Katheran, he still treated Hara like she was his own daughter. He never
made difference between them, he treated them both fairly. If he bought
something for Allen Jr.; he also bought Hara something too. That’s
Katheran’s story. Katheran met Veta at a second grade parent and teacher’s
conference at the elementary school in Coffeeville. Both Rozesita and Hara
bragged on each other to their mothers so they already knew who the kids
were. After the conference was over, Katheran saw Veta having car trouble
in the school parking lot and stopped to give her assistance. Being that
Katheran was a car salesman and hung around mechanics that worked for
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception
9
her at the car dealership, she knew a great deal about cars. She tried
everything she could to get Veta’s car to crank but it wouldn’t never crank.
So, Katheran called one of her mechanics who had a tow truck to come
get it, take it to the shop at the car dealership and fix it free of charge.
Katheran also offered to take Veta home. During the trip to the projects
where Veta lived, through conversation they discovered their daughters
were best friends. That was how they became friends. Rozesita and Todd
would spend many nights over Katheran and Allen’s house with Hara and
Allen Jr. Whenever Katheran and Allen would take their kids on vacations,
they would take Rozesita and Todd along with them. Katheran and Veta
became so close that Katheran and Allen gave Veta 2 arches of land, they
also gave her a job at their car dealership as an assistant. At first, Veta
turned everything they offered down because of her pride. But she
eventually, let her guard down and took the gift the Woodens had given
her. Veta had never been given anything by anyone, she always had to earn
what she received in life which wasn’t much but at least she had her two
kids, Rozesita and Todd. Now she had an extended family of another color.
Rozesita, Todd, Hara, and Allen Jr. were like brothers and sisters. They all
had each other’s backs growing up; race was never an issue to them. Hara
and Allen Jr. never called them the “N-word” and would defend them if
ever someone that was white called them the “N-Word.” Rozesita and Todd
didn’t call them a “Cracker or Honky,” and would defend them if someone
black called them a “Cracker or Honky.”

Chapter 4
Hara’s High School Years
In high school, Hara and Rozesita would have several pool parties at
Katheran and Allen’s house with their approval. Even though, Allen Jr.
loved Hara, Rozesita, and Todd. He was younger than them so he wasn’t
always able to hang with them or go the places they went. He didn’t have
many friends unlike Hara and wasn’t as popular as Hara but he didn’t care
to have lots of friends or to be popular. So, when he was at school, he was
mostly a loner with only a few friends in his grade. Hara was popular
among whites and blacks but she had her own group of friends all through
high school. Which were Rozesita, Todd, Cameron Willston and Courtney
Knapp. She had become friends with Cameron and Courtney her 8th
grade
year in high school. Courtney and Cameron didn’t really like Rozesita and
Todd because they were black. Courtney and Cameron’s parents were very
wealthy, but they didn’t like black people. They looked at black people as
being the devil and taught Courtney and Cameron to have the same beliefs
as them. But Courtney and Cameron knew how close Hara was to Rozesita
and Todd so they kept their opinions of how they really felt about Rozesita
and Todd to their selves. They tolerated being around them just to remain
close to Hara. They knew if Hara found out about how racist they really
were she wouldn’t be friends with them anymore. Hara looked like her dad
but she had a fair loving heart like her mother. And just like her mom, she
wasn’t a racist. Hara didn’t like racist people black or white. If you were a
racist, she wanted nothing to do with you. As far as Hara having boyfriend,
Hara and Rozesita had their first boyfriends in the 11th
grade. Rozesita’s
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception
11
boyfriend was black and in the same grade as her and Hara. His name was
Andrew Taylor and he played basketball for the high school. She lost her
virginity to him after two months. They broke up three months after
getting together. Hara’s boyfriend name was Bishop Summers. He was
white, in the 12th
grade, and was the star football player of the high school.
He was very popular. Hara was falling for him at first but one of Bishop’s
best friends told her something bad about Bishop which made her think
he was only after one thing. So, she never lost her virginity to him. She
was more focused on getting her schoolwork and homework done than
losing her virginity to Bishop. Hara also read a lot of romance novels and
was obsessed with saving herself for the special man she was going to meet
after she graduated from high school and college. She didn’t look at Bishop
as being that special guy, even though women use to throw their selves on
him. High school cheerleaders from the high school and other high schools
use to throw their selves all over him. But out of respect for Hara, he would
only have sex with the cheerleaders from other high schools in other
counties whenever he had the opportunity. Hara already had a feeling he
was having sex with other girls but she never caught him. She even thought,
Bishop and Courtney were having sex but she never caught them. Until
one day, Hara was walking to her car after school was over with for that
day. Rozesita was supposed to ride home with her but she decided to let
her boyfriend take her home. Todd had to stay at school for basketball
practice. Allen Jr. was at home sick with the flu. Usually, Rozesita and Todd
would ride with Hara and Allen Jr. in Hara’s car back and forth to school
because they all lived by each other. So, it was just Hara walking to her
car that day. She noticed Bishop’s blue, four door, truck parked in the
parking lot of the high school and her friend, Courtney’s pink, four doors,
Mercedes Benz right beside Bishop’s truck. The truck was bouncing up
and down as she walked closer to it. When she got closer she could hear
sounds of pleasure coming from a man and woman coming out of the
truck. When she finally walked up to the truck and looked through the
mirror tinted back door window of the truck, she saw two people in the
backseat of the truck. Then she heard the woman scream out Bishop’s
name, Hara then knew it was Bishop; she got angry and opened up the
back truck door. She saw Courtney in the back seat of the truck on top of
Bishop. Their clothes were completely off. They both looked at Hara in
fear; Bishop pushed Courtney to the side of him and tried to explain.
“Baby, I’m sorry, I know it looks bad but it’s not what it looks like” Bishop
12
Jaytilya M. Watkins
told Hara. Courtney interrupted Bishop and said, “Yes, it is!” “He told me
that you won’t have sex with him and he’s getting tired of you spending
more time studying and with your Nigga Friends,” “than you are with
him.” Hara became more furious when Courtney called her best friends
the “N-Word.” “First of all, you two can keep Rozesita and Todd out of
this;” “they’re closer to me than you two could ever be.” “Second of all;”
“I already had a feeling you two were having sex with each other by the
way you two acted towards each other when I’m around” Hara said to
Courtney and Bishop. Bishop interrupted Hara, “But Hara, but Hara, it
wasn’t like that.” Hara interrupted Bishop, “But Hara my ass,” “I really
and truly don’t give a rat’s ass about how it was like and why it happened.”
“I don’t even give a damn about it happening,” “it’s not like I gave up my
virginity to you anyway and now I’m glad I didn’t,” Hara said. Bishop got
angry when Hara said that. “That’s why I cheat on you because you think
you’re too good to have sex with me,” “other girls would kill to have sex
with me;” “but you won’t even give me a chance to prove to you that I can
be your dream man if you gave me a chance,” Bishop said to Hara. “You’re
right, Bishop and I never will;” “the guy of my dreams wouldn’t have never
done this;” “as far as I’m concerned you can keep having sex with Courtney;”
Hara told Bishop. “Courtney our friendship is over,” Hara told Courtney.
“Fine” Courtney said to Hara. “Neither of you better not ever call my cell
phone again,” “goodbye or as my sister Rozesita would say,” “Peace Out”
Hara said to Courtney and Bishop. Hara slammed the truck door and
walked away with her head up high. Bishop put his boxers back on and
jumped out of the truck without listening to anything Courtney was trying
to say to him. Other students who were getting in their cars, driving in
their cars, and on the school bus saw Bishop running with his boxers on
and begin to laugh at him. Bishop paid no attention to the sound of the
laughing and pointing of the students. He ran behind Hara begging her
to take him back. “I know I did wrong but I’m sorry, please except my
apology and take me back.” “She came on to me first, I wasn’t thinking
about her.” “I’m in love with you, you’re the woman I want to marry and
have my kids by.” “Courtney means nothing to me, you’re the only woman
that matters to me” Bishop said to Hara. Hara isn’t paying any attention
to what Bishop is saying as she gets to her car and put her key in the lock
of her car door to unlock it. After she unlocked the car door, Bishop
grabbed her arm to get her attention. “Listen Hara,” “I know you’re saving
yourself for your dream man but you need to realize that I am your dream
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception
13
man.” “I’m right here, you don’t have to look any further,” Bishop said to
Hara. “You need to put on some clothes, your boxers are showing,” Hara
said to Bishop while looking at him with a disgusted look on her face.
“Listen to me Hara,” “I have something to ask you,” Bishop said to Hara.
“What Bishop,” “what do you possibly have to ask me after what I just
caught you doing with my so called friend,” Hara asked Bishop. “I was
going to wait until I saw you today but now I see that I’m running out of
time.” “So I’m going to ask you now” Bishop said to Hara. He bent down
on one knee and asked her, “Hara will you marry me?” “You must be
insane to think I would even consider marrying you after catching you
fucking one of my friends,” Hara said to Bishop. “You’re not worthy
enough to be my husband, you’re not even worthy enough to be my man,”
Hara said to Bishop. “I would rather burn in hell and eat dog shit for
eternity before I would ever consider marrying you” Hara said to Bishop.
Tears started running down Bishop’s face. “My dream man is still out there
in the world waiting on me and he’s not you,” Hara said to Bishop. Hara
opened her car door, turned around to Bishop and said, “It’s over Bishop,
goodbye!” She got into her car, closed the door, cranked it up, and spins
off in her car; leaving Bishop standing there with nothing on but his
boxers. He ran back to his truck, made Courtney get out and drove off.
He tried to call Hara several times that day but she didn’t answer. But that
still didn’t stop him from trying to call her every day. He would even harass
her at school, Rozesita and Todd both would have to tell him to stop. He
still wouldn’t give up. After Hara’s other friends found out what Courtney
had done with Bishop, they didn’t want to hang around her anymore. She
found other friends to hang with. After Bishop graduated from high school
and enrolled at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama; he still would try
to call Hara but she wouldn’t talk to him. She changed her cell phone
number.

Chapter 5
Hara’s 12th Grade Year
Hara’s senior high school year was very exciting. She didn’t get into
anymore relationships but at least she had her three best friends; Rozesita,
Todd, Cameron, and sometimes her brother Allen Jr. to hang around with
during breaks and lunches. Allen Jr. was now in the 9th
grade. Hara and
Rozesita started doing their research early on different universities they
wanted to attend after graduation. Rozesita decided she wanted to go to
LSU (Louisiana State University) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She didn’t
want to move too far away from home. Rozesita and Katheran tried their
best to try to convince Hara to change her mind about wanting to attend
TSU (Texas State University). The university was 10 hours and 32 minutes
away from home. But Hara already had her mind made up. Rozesita was
planning on attending LSU to get her bachelor’s degree in Business &
Accounting and work beside Hara at her mom’s firm. Hara was planning
on going to TSU to get her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Hara
wanted to be a criminal defense attorney just like her father was before he
died. She was planning on taking over the law firm her mom owned after
passing the bar exam. Hara and Rozesita both discussed their plans to each
other several times. They both was focused, knew what they wanted to do
with their lives, and what direction they wanted to go in their lives. Prom
night was electrifying for Hara, Rozesita, Todd, and Cameron. They all
had dates but Todd had 10 dates. He danced with all 10 girls, took prom
pictures with them, and after prom, he took all of them to a motel and
had sex with all of them. Hara and Rozesita didn’t go to a motel with their
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception

dates after prom was over. They took them to an after party one of their
classmates had invited them to. They partied like it was no tomorrow. Hara
and Rozesita had gotten so drunk they couldn’t drive. So, they stayed the
night there after the party was over. A few of the other classmates stayed
the night too. They all crashed in the living room. They were sloppy drunk.
They all had major hangovers the next day. One of the classmates; had to
get rushed to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. The classmate died from
it. Once Veta and Katheran found this information out along with the
heavy drinking that they heard went on at the party; they grounded Hara
and Rozesita for three weeks for engaging in the drinking activities at the
party that night. They wasn’t allowed to go anywhere after school. They
had to leave school and go straight to their houses. They wasn’t allowed
to go hang out anywhere for three weekends. Hara and Rozesita both
were angry about the terms of their punishment but they also felt like the
amount of fun they both had at the after party they went to after prom
was worth getting in trouble over. Hara and Rozesita finally graduated
from high school the next month. Hara was Val Victorian of her class. Her
grade point average was 99.9. Rozesita’s grade point average was a 95.9.
That wasn’t as high as Hara’s but it was still a good grade point average.
They both received scholarships to go to college. Katheran and Veta were so
proud of them. The night after they graduated, they went to a graduation
party and got drunk again but not sloppy drunk. Hara and Rozesita both
got accepted at the college they wanted to enroll in. Rozesita got accepted
at LSU and Hara got accepted at TSU. They were both going to go to the
universities in the fall. Hara received her $500,000 trust fund her dad set
up for her before he died. Hara wanted to start sooner but her family talked
her out of it because they wanted to spend more time with her before she
left. No one understood why she wanted to go to college so far away from
home. She could’ve easily attended MSU (Mississippi State University)
or LSU (Louisiana State University). But Hara had a secret desire for
adventure. Moving somewhere no one knew her felt appealing to her.

Chapter 6
Hara’s Summer Vacation
Before Starting College
That summer before Hara had attended college in the fall was
unforgettable for her and Rozesita. Katheran paid for her, Allen, Hara,
Allen Jr., Veta, Rozesita, and Todd to go on a cruise ship for one month.
The trip was exhilarating and soothing for everyone. Veta had gotten sea
sick at first but she recovered after a couple of days. The ship was packed
with many people of different races. Hara enjoyed the trip and thanked
her mom for taking her and her friends. The ship was big and beautiful on
the inside and had many rooms. It also had a restaurant that served lots of
exotic foods and of course refreshments. There was lots of entertainment
like people singing, dancing, telling jokes, people playing music with their
instruments. There were even stores for tourist to shop in to buy clothes,
shoes, and other items. If Hara could explain the experience, she would’ve
described it as being, “Paradise in Flowing Water.” Hara and Rozesita
both brought their cameras so they could take photos of each other as
well as family and friends. They took a lot of photos so they could put
them in their picture books. Everyone enjoyed the trip and looked at it
as being astonishing. The fun lasted an entire month. After the adventure
was over everyone complained because they didn’t want it to end. But
the vacation wasn’t over yet, that trip was just over. Katheran also took
them to Miami, Florida and rented two condos in front of the beach for
everyone to stay in. They ate at fancy restaurants, shopped at the malls,
and played in the sea water. They walked along the beach in the sand and

played volley ball. Hara and Rozesita also took lots pictures there. In all,
they had thousands of pictures from both adventures. Some photos they
enhanced and most they just put into their photo books to take to college
with them. That adventure only lasted three weeks. They drove back to
Coffeeville, Mississippi with good memories and lots of stories to tell years
later after the adventure was over. The month and three weeks of fun had
finally ended. Two weeks later it was time for both Hara and Rozesita to
leave for college. The day was bitter/sweet for both Veta and Katheran;
they were happy about their daughters going to college for the purpose of
accomplishing the things they wanted to do with their selves but they were
sad about them leaving. Hara was the first one to leave since the university
she was going to was so far away. Katheran, Allen, Allen Jr., Veta, Rozesita,
and Todd all shed tears as Hara hugged them, saying goodbye before
getting in her red, brand new, BMW M3, car (that Katheran had bought
her for a graduation gift) and leaving. Two hours later, Rozesita left for
LSU and the same sadness followed, she got into her brand new, white,
Mustang (that Veta bought her) and left.

Chapter 7
Hara’s Experience Away From Home
Hara was driving to San Marcos, Texas where TSU was located at. She
had her cell phone with her so her parents could call and check on her to
see was she okay. Katheran wanted to follow her there but Hara convinced
her she was capable of getting to San Marcos on her own without
supervision. Katheran taught and told her the street names to get on to get
to San Marcos and to TSU. Katheran also gave her a map and mark down
on the map what roads to get on even though she had a GPS in her car.
Hara had the map with her on the passenger seat of her car. The only time
she made stops was when she had to get gas at the gas stations. She didn’t
talk to anyone on the way there whenever she would make stops. Katheran
would call Hara every hour to make sure she was okay. Every time she
talked to Hara, she would say, “Remember not to talk to strangers.” Hara
would say, “I know mom, you don’t have to worry about me talking to
strangers.” “Let me remind you I’m 18 years old,” “I can handle myself.”
Rozesita arrived at LSU before Hara arrived at TSU because Baton Rouge,
Louisiana was closer to Coffeeville, Mississippi than San Marcos was.
Rozesita called Veta and Todd then called Hara after she had arrived.
Rozesita called Hara bragging about how big the university was and how
the college guys were trying to get with her. “Girllll, you should’ve enrolled
at LSU, now I’m going to be holding this university down by myself, LSU
have some fine looking guys here” Rozesita told Hara. “I’m not thinking
about any guys.” “I’m going to stay focused on doing my work, making
good grades, and graduating from college so I can be over the law firm and
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception

that’s what you should be focusing on,” “so you can work at the law firm
as my accountant,” Hara said to Rozesita. “I’m focused on getting my work
done and graduating but that don’t mean I’m not going to have a little fun
while I’m going to school out here.” “You can make good grades in college
and still have a little fun,” Rozesita said to Hara. “I’m a have these guys
eating out of my hand,” Rozesita said to Hara. “Promise me that you won’t
get all caught up in partying and neglect doing your college work,” Hara
said to Rozesita. “I promise you that I won’t neglect my college work to go
to parties,” “I’ll do my work first, then I’ll go parties,” Rozesita said to
Hara. Rozesita laughed after she said that. “Now, you have to promise me
something,” Rozesita told Hara. “What,” Hara said to Rozesita. “You have
to promise me that you won’t become a total nerd and forget to enjoy your
life while being in college” Rozesita said to Hara. “I can’t promise you
that,” Hara said to Rozesita. “Oh, come on Hara,” “just because you’re in
college doesn’t mean that you have to be so uptight and not have any fun
at all,” Rozesita told Hara. “It’s okay to have a little fun in college,” Rozesita
said to Hara. “You need to loosen up and try to meet new people and new
friends” Rozesita told Hara. “You always talked about finding your dream
man.” “Your dream man just might be at TSU but if you remain uptight
and not socialize with new people.” “You might not ever find him,” Rozesita
told Hara. “Well if he’s my dream man,” “I’m not going to have to talk to
him.” “He’s going to talk to me first.” “He’s going to love the fact that I’m
a nerd and I would rather stay in my dorm room and study than go to
college parties.” “He’s going to love everything about me inside and out;”
“including my flaws, and he’s going to be perfect” Hara told Rozesita. “Boo
Boo,” “I’ve been telling you this all through high school and you still aren’t
listening to me.” “There isn’t any such thing as a perfect man.” “I don’t care
if you do find this dream man that you’ve preached about or read about in
those romance novel books that you read.” “He still won’t be perfect.” “No,
man is perfect, Hara and if you do meet a guy who acts perfect and
pretends to be perfect.” “I can guarantee you he’s going to be the main guy
with a thousand of skeletons in his closet that you may not find out about
until after you give him your virginity and marry him.” “Then that’s when
you’re going to find out that he wasn’t as perfect as he was claiming to be.”
“That’s when his dark side is going to show,” Rozesita told Hara. Hara
listened quietly as Rozesita talked. “Hara I love you like a sister.” “If you
can’t promise me anything else, just promise me that you won’t fall for a
guy just because he acts and seems perfect and get caught in a trap,”
20

Rozesita told Hara. “I can promise you that I won’t,” “I can promise you
that because I’m not going to TSU to meet anyone.” “I’m going to TSU
to do my studies, pass all of my classes, and graduate,” Hara told Rozesita
in a soft tone of voice “Okay then,” “that’s an agreement and I’m a hold
you to that” Rozesita told Hara. “Oh girl,” Rozesita said to Hara. “Guess
who I saw at the gas station in Coffeeville when I stopped to get some gas,”
Rozesita asked Hara. “Who,” Hara asked Rozesita. “Your ex-boyfriend
Bishhhoppp,” Rozesita told Hara. “Why you telling me, Hara asked
Rozesita. “Nobody is thinking about his no good, cheating, ass,” Hara said
to Rozesita. “Well apparently,” “he’s still thinking about youuuu.” “He was
all in my face asking me questions about you” Rozesita said to Hara.
“Questions like what,” Hara asked Rozesita. “Questions like who you in
a relationship with now, what was your new phone number, and what
college do you go to now” Rozesita told Hara. “Girlll, I hope you didn’t
tell him what my new cell phone number is or what college I’m going too,”
Hara told Rozesita. “Well, I didn’t give him your new number.” “He gave
me his number to give you and I put it in my cell phone.” “Buuuut, I did
tell him what university that you enrolled in,” Rozesita told Hara. Hara
yelled, “WHAT! WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT?” “Chill
out Hara,” “I was just bragging on you.” “That was a way of telling him
that you’ve moved on with your life and not thinking about him.” “Don’t
chew my head off about it, danggg;” “I’m sorry,” Rozesita said. “I didn’t
want him to know anything about me,” Hara said. “Well at least,” “I didn’t
give him your new cell phone number” Rozesita said. “That don’t mean
nothing,” “he might try to call the college I’m attending and try to get in
touch with me there” Hara said. “And all you would have to do is tell the
college staff if someone other than your parents tries to get in touch with
you to tell them you don’t accept phone calls from people you don’t know.”
“Besides I don’t think they would give him any personal information like
that about you.” “That would probably be against college policy, I think.”
“If it’s not it should be anyway,” Rozesita said. “He had a girl with him,
too” Rozesita told Hara. “You mean to tell me he had the nerve to ask you
about me around a girl that he was with” Hara asked Rozesita. “Typical
Bishop,” “I’m so glad I didn’t stay in a relationship with him and didn’t
give up my virginity to him” “I’m sooo, glad I dumped his two timing,
ass,” Hara said. “Actually Hara, he said after he lost you, he realized he
needed to change his wild ways.” “He also said he’s about to make it into
the pros,” Rozesita said. Before Rozesita could finish the rest of her sentence

Hara interrupted her. “Enough about Bishop, he’s ancient history to me
now” Hara told Rozesita in an angry voice. “The main guy that you say is
ancient history just might be the dream guy of your future,” Rozesita said
in a low tone of voice to herself. “What did you just say,” Hara asked
Rozesita. “Oh oh, nothing,” “I I’m umm get off the phone and unpack,”
Rozesita said. “I heard what you said.” “Bishop isn’t any dream man of
mine” Hara said. “Okay, I’m a call you back, bye,” Rozesita said. Rozesita
hung up the phone and so did Hara. She gave no thoughts to what Rozesita
had just said about Bishop as she continued to drive. Five hours had passed
since she had been driving, with five more hours ahead of her to drive. She
stopped at a gas station with a restaurant built on to it to get some gas and
a bite to eat. She had snacks, food, and water in one of her travel bags but
she wanted something different to eat. She also wanted to sit and relax for
a while in the restaurant while eating before driving on the road again. So,
she paid for more gas and pumped it, then pulled the car over to the
restaurant and parked. First, she went into the restroom of the restaurant
to use the restroom and wash her hands. After that she ordered some food
from the restaurant; she sat down at a table with her order to eat. She said
nothing to no one while eating. She sat, ate, drank, and stared at the
different people going in and out of the fast food restaurant. She saw a
family come into the restaurant and started missing her own family. She
started to regret enrolling at a university so far away from her love ones.
But it was too late for regret, she had already been accepted to go to TSU,
so she had to suck that regret up and attend. A couple of truck drivers who
came into the restaurant noticed her, tried to socialized with her, and get
her phone number. She would politely tell them she wasn’t interested in
having phone conversations with them. She would also tell them she wasn’t
interested in making new friends or getting in new relationships. Some of
the truck drivers would give her a hateful look and walk away. Thirty
minutes later after she ate and rested, she left the restaurant and began
driving again. Five hours seemed like forever to be driving for her. Once
she did arrive in San Marcos, Texas; it was 7:40pm. She rented a motel in
San Marcos, Texas to sleep in because school started the next day and she
still had to sign up to stay in a dorm room. So she paid for a motel room.
When she got into the room she called her parents, and Rozesita to tell
them she made it safely. After getting off of the phone with them, she took
a bath and went to bed. The next day, she woke up at 8:00am and drove
to the University to start school. She met her professors who would be
22
Jaytilya M. Watkins
teaching her that semester. She also signed up to stay in a dorm and was
told what dorm room she would be staying in. Later on after her classes at
the end of the day she went to her dorm room. The dorm room included
3 bedrooms, a kitchen, small dining room, and a bathroom. The dorm
rooms were in buildings. She would be sharing the dorm with two other
students who also went to TSU. They both were white girls, one was named
Jenny Holder. She was studying to be an RN nurse. She had blond hair
and blue eyes. Heather Banks was another one of Hara’s roommates; she
was studying to be a psychiatrist. She had blonde hair too but brown eyes.
Both of the girls where beautiful, but their beauty couldn’t compare to
Hara’s beauty. Hara introduced herself to them as soon as she got there
and they introduced their selves to her. When, she went into her room
which was at the end of the hallway to the right. She noticed she needed
to buy a bed and a drawer to put her closes in. She asked one of her
roommates where was the furniture store located in San Marcos. The
roommate told her. She went to the furniture store the next day. She
bought a bed, mattress, dresser, mirror, and mini refrigerator to put in her
room. This was a unique furniture store that would have your furniture
delivered to your house or room and help you set it up, if you paid them
so she also paid the workers of furniture store extra money to deliver it to
her dorm room. She had her dorm set up exactly how her room was set up
back in Coffeeville. She also bought a television and sofa. Now that she
had her room set up the way she wanted, she bought food to put in her
refrigerator. Then she started to unpack her clothes, put them in the drawer
of her dresser, and hung them in her closet. She did all of this after her
classes were over at the end of the day. She loved going to her classes and
learning about new things. Her experience so far was significant. She also
learned to adapt to living with her roommates. She talked to her family on
the phone every day after her college classes were over for that day and
when she didn’t call them they called her. Every other weekend, Katheran,
Allen, Allen Jr. Veta, Rozesita, and Todd would come visit her. They all
would stay in nearby hotels and Hara would stay with them on Fridays
and Saturdays. They would go out to eat, go shopping, and do other great
activities. On Sunday mornings, they would leave in the RV they would
come in together. Hara would be glad to see them come and was sad to
see them go. She would shed tears as they drove away. Every weekday, Hara
would follow the same routine; she would attend her classes, in between
classes; she would be on campus at a table reading in her text books, doing
Devotion, Obsession, & Deception
23
her college work, and studying for her exams. She would go straight to her
dorm room at the end of the day and studied without mingling with a soul.
Sometimes she would go shopping for more food at the store. She really
didn’t eat a whole lot so she mostly bought fruits to eat on and a little of
junk food. She also would buy cleaning supplies for the dorm and helped
do choirs around the dorm. The only time she really would come out of
her room was to take a bath or to help clean up the dorm. The rest of the
time she would either be talking on the phone with family or studying.
Hara let nothing get in the way of her studies, not even the parties that
would be going on in nearby dorms inside of the building. Heather would
brag about her to Jenny by saying, “Instead of us partying all of the time,
we need to be more like Hara.” Jenny became jealous of Hara, that’s when
and where the jealous of Hara first started, with Jenny. Two months after
following the same routine every day; Hara realized Rozesita had a point,
when she said to her two months ago while she was driving to San Marcos,
that it’s okay to have a little fun while attending college. Between going to
her classes and going back to her dorm, she really didn’t have any type of
excitement in her life. She had a couple of associates on the TSU campus
but she didn’t hang with them, she hung to herself studying mostly. The
only time she had fun was when her family came to visit her on some of
the weekends but they slacked down on visiting her. Every other weekend
turned to one weekend out of a month because they all had lives too and
they were doing their own thing. But they still called her every day. Lots
of guys on campus tried to get with Hara but she would turn them all
down. Some of the guys would call her “Stuck-Up.” Some of the guys,
would spread rumors on her saying she was a “Lesbian” because she had
never been seen talking to a guy on campus but that wasn’t true at all. She
talked on the phone with her brother, Allen Jr. Todd, and Cameron. She
even started talking back on the phone with her ex-boyfriend Bishop. He
called her a month after she started going to TSU. Through Cameron,
Bishop had gotten her number but this was unknown to Hara because
Bishop never told Hara. Bishop lied to her like one of her family members
gave him the number. At first when he called, Hara would tell him to stop
calling her and would hang the phone up in his face but he wouldn’t take
no for an answer. One day, Bishop called something in her mind told her
to just talk to him and she did. They started talking on the phone from
then on. Every time they would talk to each other on the phone, he would
always tell her how much he missed her and how he wanted to get back
24
Jaytilya M. Watkins
into a relationship with her. She would always tell him the past is over with
and the only thing she could offer him was friendship. He learned to accept
hearing that even though he didn’t want to. And little did she know he
was hearing her say that but he wasn’t listening. He was planning on doing
everything he could to win her heart back. Failure to win her heart was
not an option for him.

Chapter 8
Hara & Bishop Reunites
One Friday, that Hara’s family wasn’t coming to visit her, Bishop
showed up on campus to find Hara. He had roses and candy; he even had
a big teddy bear to give her. He searched the campus yard until he found
her. When he saw her and called her name, she looked up. She was surprised
to see him there and shocked to see him with roses, candy, and a bear.
“Bishop, what are you doing here” Hara asked. “My dad and I was traveling
to Austin, Texas to see a sick relative; so I told him I was going to stop and
see you” Bishop said. “Wow, I didn’t know you had relatives in Austin,”
Hara said. “I bought this for you” Bishop said while handing her the roses,
candy, and teddy bear. “Well, thank you Bishop,” Hara said. “You are so
welcome, beautiful” Bishop said. Bishop sat down on the bench by Hara.
“So how did you know where to find me” Hara asked. “You told me on
the phone you like to sit on campus around this time to study while
enjoying the outdoors so I guess you can say I remembered” Bishop said.
“Ohhh,” Hara said. “So I see you’re still as beautiful as you were in high
school” Bishop said. “Thank you and I see you’re still as muscular as you
were in high school” Hara said. “Well, that’s what playing football, jogging,
eating right, and lifting weights will do for you” Bishop said. They both
laughed at his remark. “So why didn’t you bring your girlfriend on this
trip to Austin” Hara asked. Bishop dropped his head, looking towards the
ground with a sad look on his face. “Her and I broke up,” Bishop said.
“Hmmm,” Hara said out loud. “Do you want to know why we broke up”
Bishop asked Hara. “No, that’s not any of my concern” Hara said. Bishop
26
Jaytilya M. Watkins
looked back up at her. Hara started thinking for a minute about the lonely
two months she have had in her dorm room. Something just told her to
go for it so she asked Bishop, “How would you like to go to a party with
me one of the students in one of the dorm buildings is throwing tomorrow
tonight” Hara asked Bishop. “That would be great,” Bishop said to Hara
smiling. “Cool, but it’s not going to be until Saturday so you and your
father would have time to go visit your relative in Austin, spend time with
them tonight and return back tomorrow night at 7:00pm,” Hara said. “Oh,
my father and I didn’t travel together in the same car. He’s already gone
to Austin.” “I told him to go to Austin without me and I’d catch up”
Bishop said. “So would it be alright with you if I drive to Austin to see my
relative now and return tonight to take you out tonight and go to the party
tomorrow night” Bishop asked. “Ahhhh, I don’t know about the going out
tonight and eating because I have to study tonight” Hara said. Bishop
looked at her with the expression of sadness as Hara started thinking about
it. “Oh, what the hell, you only live once right?” “Okay I’ll go out to eat
with you tonight” Hara said. Bishop’s sad expression turned to a happy
expression. “After my classes are over, I’ll go and buy me something to wear
for tonight and tomorrow night.” “I’ll go to my room, take a shower, put
on an outfit, and be waiting on you to return tonight” Hara said. “How
would you feel about spending time in a hotel room with me afterwards”
Bishop asked. “Bishop, I don’t kn,” Hara said. Bishop interrupted Hara.
“I promise you I won’t try anything with you.” “You’ll have a bed of your
own and I’ll have a bed of my own.” “We’ll just play cards, dance, or
whatever you would like to do.” “We’ll just have fun.” “We both deserve
some type of fun in our lives being that we devote all of our time to college”
Bishop told Hara. “Don’t you agree,” Bishop asked. “Yeaaa, I guess you’re
right.” “But I want to make this clear.” “This isn’t a date.” “We’re going out
to eat and to the party as friends only” Hara said to Bishop. “That’s cool,”
“I’m just happy you’re agreeing to this” Bishop said. “Okay then, I’ll do it”
Hara said. “I’ll pay for a hotel room nearby the dorm room buildings so
we won’t have to travel so far to go to your friend’s dorm party” Bishop
said. “Okay,” Hara said. They both stood up from the bench. “Well, I’m a
go ahead and drive to Austin so I can come back and pick you up tonight”
Bishop said. “Okay, I’ll be waiting in the dorm.” “Just call before you get
to the dorm buildings; so I can tell you which building my dorm room is
located in” Hara said. “Exactly which building is your dorm room in and
what floor is it on” Bishop asked. “It’s in the third building to the left and

floor of the building.” “The number on the door will be 550,”
Hara said. “Okay, I’ll be there” Bishop said. “Okay I’ll be waiting” Hara
said. Hara picked up her book bag and book she was studying in. She
walked away from Bishop and started walking towards one of the university
buildings to go into it. Bishop had a smile on his face from ear to ear. He
jumped up and down in excitement saying, “Yes, Yes, Yes,” as if he just
won a football championship or the lottery. Other college students that
were sitting at nearby tables outside looked at him like he was crazy. Some
of them laughed at him. But Bishop didn’t care because he was going to
be spending time with the woman of his dreams that night and Saturday
night. He walked away from TSU’s campus and got into his car in the
parking lot feeling like a million bucks. Hara was about to walk up to the
door to go into one of the university buildings when she and another guy
bumped into each other. She dropped her book bag, her book, and
notebook sheets of paper with notes on them that were inside of her book.
The gentlemen bend down to help her pick the papers and the book up
along with her book bag. “I’m so sorry for bumping into you.” “I can be
so clumsy sometimes” Hara said to gentlemen. “It’s okay, you don’t have
to apologize it was I who bumped into you, not watching where I was
going.” “I’m the one who should apologize, I’m sorry” the gentlemen said
as he was helping her pick her things up. They both stood up from bending
after he helped her get all of her stuff up off the ground. Hara looked into
the guy’s eyes and he looked back. When the guy looked at Hara, he
thought he saw an angle. They stared at each other for two seconds; then
he introduced himself. “My name is Stephen Golden” Stephen said to
Hara. “My name is Hara Weatherson, nice to meet you” Hara said to
Stephen. As Hara tried to shake Stephen’s hand, he took her hand bent
down, kissed her hand and said, “It’s a pleasure meeting you.” He offered
to carry her books for her but she refused by saying, “No thank you, I can
take them to class.” He opened the door for her to walk into the building.
She said, “Thank you, Stephen,” then walked into the building. As Hara
was walking in the hallway, Stephen walked up beside her. “So, what are
you majoring in,” Stephen asked. “Criminal Justice,” Hara replied. “No
way, I’m majoring in that too.” “I’m planning on becoming a state
prosecutor” Stephen said. How about you” Stephen asked Hara. “I’m
planning on being a criminal defense attorney” Hara said. “So, what class
are you going to” Stephen asked. “I’m going to Mrs. Valen’s class” Hara
said. “Oh so, you’re in that mean women’s class who wears a ponytail”

Stephen said. “Why does everybody say that,” Hara asked. “She’s not mean
and who cares about her wearing her hair in a ponytail” Hara said smiling.
“That hairstyle makes her look like an old, mean, woman who needs to
get” “Boned,” Stephen said. Hara laughed uncontrollably. “Well it was nice
meeting you, see you later” Stephen said. “Byee,” Hara said to Stephen.
Classes ended at 4:00pm for Hara. She went to a clothing store and bought
two outfits. She bought the outfits and left the store. Then drove her car
to the dorm and went inside of the dorm. Heather and Jenny were sitting
in the living room, when Hara came in. When Heather asked her where
the roses, candy, and bear came from. She told her it was from her ex-
boyfriend that she was in a relationship with in high school. She mentioned
that he went to Auburn University. She told her they were going out that
night and to the dorm room party the next night. Heather cheered for her
but Jenny said nothing. She just continued looking at the television. Hara
walked into her dorm room to get a long T-shirt, bra, and panties to put
on for after she took a bath. Heather looked at Jenny with an angry look.
“What,” Jenny said. “Why you didn’t congratulate Hara for going on a
date” Heather asked Jenny. “Why the hell should I care whether that nerdy
loser goes on a date or not” Jenny asked Heather. “She’s no friend of mine.”
“I don’t even like her.” “Besides she didn’t say it was a date anyway.” “She
said they are just going out” Jenny said to Heather. “I swear sometimes, I
don’t know why I hang with you,” Heather said to Jenny. “Because I know
how to party, unlike that loser back there; who don’t” Jenny said to
Heather. “Well, you do know how to party.” “I’ll give you that one”
Heather said to Jenny. “But what do you have against Hara” Heather asked
Jenny.” “She’s smart and she’s pretty,” Heather said to Jenny. “She thinks
she’s better than everyone else.” “She’s not prettier than me and she’s a total
loser.” “I bet the guy that’s going to come here to pick her up is going to
be a loser too, just like her” Jenny told Heather. “Whatever Jenny,” Heather
said. Heather walked into her dorm room leaving Jenny in the living room
watching the television. Hara took a shower and went into her dorm room.
After she took a shower, put on her T-shirt, bra, and panties, she grabbed
a bite to eat from her refrigerator. Then she lay on her bed and took a nap.
She was awakened by the ring of her cell phone. She answered the phone,
it was Bishop. “Hey Hara I’m on my way back from Austin, once I get
there I’m going to rent a room from a hotel nearest to the dorm buildings.”
“Then I’m a come pick you up,” Bishop said. “Are you cool with that”
Bishop asked. “Yeaaa, I’m cool with thaaat,” Hara responded softly. “Are

you okay, is something wrong,” Bishop asked. “Oh no, I was asleep when
you called, I’m fine.” “I just got to wake up,” Hara said. “Have you thought
about where you want to eat at” Bishop asked Hara. “It really doesn’t
matter.” “Where ever you choose will be fine” Hara said to Bishop. “I think
I saw a fancy restaurant not too far from TSU.” “I’m a check out that
restaurant before I come pick you up,” Bishop said to Hara. “Bishop, you
don’t have to spend money on expensive restaurants to satisfy me” Hara
said. “I know I don’t but I want to because you’re special to me and you
deserve to be treated like a queen” Bishop said. Hara smiled and said “Okay
Bishop, I’ll be waiting when you get here.” “Okay I’ll see you later, bye”
Bishop said. “Bye,” Hara said. They both hang up the phone. Hara got up
out of the bed. She went to her closet and pulled her new outfits she bought
at the clothing store. She also pulled out two pairs of shoes she bought
along with those outfits. She looked in her jewelry box and pulled out two
sets of earrings, necklets, and bracelets. Her outfit she was planning to wear
to the restaurant was a short, pink, glittery, dress outfit. It had a lace string
on it that would wrap around her neck. The high heel shoes were also pink
with glitter on them. She had pink jewelry to go along with it too. To the
party, she was planning on wearing a red shirt with a v in it showing the
top of her boobs, red jeans with red and white Nike sneakers. All of her
jewelry for that outfit would be red. And of course she was going to wear
her make-up and wear eyeliner. She also had pink lip gloss to wear with
her pink outfit and red lip stick to wear with her red outfit. Hara’s hair was
already curly due to her taking a shower and wetting it. Her hair naturally
curled when it got wet. So, she was going to wear it like that to the
restaurant that night. But she was planning on straight ironing it for the
party tomorrow before she went. Even though, she told Bishop the two
events they were attending together wasn’t a date. She really felt like it was
a date because she hadn’t been on any date with a guy since high school or
since being at TSU. She put on her makeup first while looking in the
mirror in her room. She took off her T-shirt and boxers. She put on some
Victoria Secret lotion and body spray. Then she put on her pink, dress
outfit; along with her pink jewelry and shoes. After putting everything on,
she looked at herself in the mirror. She was very confident about how she
looked. Pretty wasn’t the word to describe how Hara looked. Gorgeous,
elegant, or ravishing are better words that would describe how she looked
that night. What really set her good looks off were her seductive, sky blue,
eyes. In looks, her face was a mixture between Megan Fox (The woman
30
Jaytilya M. Watkins
who starred in the first Transformers) and Selena Gomez (Justin Beiber’s
girlfriend). Whenever Hara would dress up; she really knew how to turn
up her charm and wherever she went to, she would catch every guy’s
attention. She looked like those ladies who starred in Soap Operas. She
was 5 foot and 5 inches tall and 120 pounds. She had nicely shaped legs
and thighs, small breast, with small hips. She also had a natural tan, like
her father. She had a little of Indian in her blood that came from her
father’s family background. Bishop showed up at 7:00 pm on the dot. He
found the building Hara was in and went inside to the dorm room door
that had 550 on it. He got nervous on the inside as he knocked on the
door. Heather answered the door and asked him what his name was. He
told her his name and who he came to see. She was happy to see him and
asked him to come in so she could prove Jenny’s bet wrong. “HARAAAA,”
“YOUR DATE IS HERE,” Heather yelled. Jenny who was sitting on the
couch, took one look at Bishop and stared in amazement as her bottom lip
and jaw dropped to the floor. “OKAY, I’LL BE RIGHT THERE,” Hara
yelled. Heather sat down by Jenny on the couch. Bishop also had a seat on
a couch across from them. Jenny got over being amazed and began to get
interested in what Bishop had to say. “So, you’re really Hara’s date or did
she pay you to hang with her” Jenny asked. “Well, really she said it’s not a
date and we’re just hanging out” Bishop said. “Ohhh, that’s good to know”
Jenny said to Bishop. “I heard you two used to be high school sweet hearts”
Heather said to Bishop. “Yes, we were,” Bishop said to Heather. “So, are
you two planning on getting back together” Heather asked Bishop. “Well,
I don’t know you would have to ask her that” Bishop said to Heather. “Well
just in case she doesn’t get back with you my number is (555) 268-9332
and even if she does, you can still give me a call anytime” Jenny said to
Bishop in a low tone of voice while smiling. “JENNNNY” Heather said
to Jenny. “I’m so sorry about how my roommate is acting.” “She hits on
every guy on campus” Heather told Bishop. “No, I don’t hit on every guy
on campus.” “I only hit on the handsome guys on campus.” “If he’s ugly I
don’t say anything to him” Jenny said to Heather. Jenny and Heather both
laugh. Bishop joined them with a brief laugh. Hara walked out of her
room, walked through the hallway while hearing Bishop laughing and
talking to her roommates. He looked in the hallway and stood up once he
saw her. He looked in amazement at Hara as she walked into the living
room. Heather stood up too, to greet Hara but Jenny remained seated.
“Wow, Hara you look beautiful.” “I love that outfit” Heather said to Hara.

“Thank you, Heather,” Hara said. “Hello, Bishop.” “Are you ready to go,”
Hara asked Bishop. “Of course, come on let’s go have some fun, beautiful”
Bishop told Hara. Bishop picked her small travel bag up she had her other
outfit and other personal items in. Personal items like lotion, perfume, and
straightening irons. He shook both Heather and Jenny’s hand while saying,
“It was very nice to meet you ladies.” Heather said, “It was very nice
meeting you too.” Jenny said, “It was a pleasure meeting you too.” Heather
said, “I hope you two have a great time.” Hara was checking Bishop out
from head to toe. Bishop had on a white suit with a red tie and white dress
shoes for men on his feet. His cologne smelled so good and so loud that
Hara smelled it as soon as she came out of her dorm room door. His hair
was a curly blonde combed back. It was very easy for Hara once again to
see why all of the girls in high school use to throw their selves at the
handsome fox. As they started walking towards the door to walk out,
Bishop is looking at her and told her, “You look very beautiful Hara.” Hara
said, “Thank you and you look very handsome.” “I love how your cologne
smells.” Hara told Bishop. “What’s the name of it,” Hara asked Bishop.
“Jean Paul” Bishop said as he opened the door for Hara to walk out of.
Hara said, “Well it sure does smell good,” as she walked out of the door.
Bishop walked behind her and closed the door. After Hara and Bishop left,
Heather and Jenny giggled at each other. “Oh my goodness he is so
gorgeous,” Jenny said. “Oh I thought you said he was going to be a loser”
Heather said to Jenny. “Well, I was wrong but she’s still a loser.” “Why he
still wants her is a mystery.” “He probably just felt sorry for her the reason
why he’s taking her out.” “I hope they don’t get back together so I can get
with him.” “I still might take him away from her if she does get back with
him” Jenny said. “You’re such a hater Jenny,” Heather told Jenny. “A hater
of who” Jenny asked Heather. “Hara isn’t anybody special to me” Jenny
told Heather. “As far as you saying you getting with him, I might have a
better chance to get with him than you because he seemed like he was
feeling me.” “Plus I was the one who answered the door,” Heather told
Jenny. They both begin to get into an argument over Bishop. As Bishop
and Hara were walking down the steps; Bishop told Hara, “I have
something very special for us to ride in.” “Bishop I drive a BMW,” “my
most favorite car I’ve ever had” Hara said. “What ride you could possibly
have that’s better than my BMW, Bishop” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop said,
“You’ll see.” He told Hara to close her eyes and put his hand over her eyes.
He kept his hands over her eyes until they got out of the building. After
32

they got out of the building, he released his hands from her eyes and she
opened her eyes. She saw a white, Huma lima zine in the front parking lot
of the building they came out of. Hara had a surprised look on her face.
“Oh my Godddd,” “Bishop wh, wh,” “where did you buy this from,” “how
much did this cost,” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop said, “I didn’t buy it.” “I
rented it for today and tomorrow for us.” “Why,” Hara asked Bishop.
“Because I want the time we spent together to be special for you and
memorable to you,” Bishop said. “You didn’t have to do this,” Hara said.
“No, I didn’t but I wanted to do this” Bishop said as they walked towards
the Lima zine. A driver got out of the Lima zine, walked around the Lima
zine to where Hara and Bishop were going to be getting in at, and opened
the door. “Wow, you even have a driver to drive us,” Hara said in amazement
as they both get into the Lima zine. Bishop let Hara get into the Lima zine
first then he got in last. Once the driver closed the door, he walked back
around to the driver’s side and got in. He began driving the Lima zine.
“How much did it cost you to rent this Lima zine” Hara asked Bishop.
Bishop looked at her with a smile on his face. “Does it really matter how
much it cost” Bishop asked Hara. “Well, no, I was just curious” Hara said.
“Let’s just say it was very expensive” Bishop said. “I know that’s why I told
you, you didn’t have to do this” Hara told Bishop. Bishop looked at Hara
and said, “When it comes to you; I will spend my last dollar in my wallet,
just to be near you for one day.” As they both stared at each other in the
darkness, they both slowly started leaning closer to each other feeling the
desire to kiss each other. But just before they were about to kiss, Hara
looked away and started looking out of the window. “So, where are we
eating at,” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop looked out the window. “That’s the
next surprise I have for you” Bishop told Hara. “Oh my God, Bishop.”
“You and your surprises” Hara said to Bishop. “Can you just give me one
clue, please” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop folded his arms, looked at her with
a serious look on his face and said, “Nope.” “Awwww, your mean,” Hara
said with a frown. “Is it at the Italian Garden’s restaurant,” Hara asked.
“They have great food.” “My family loves to eat there when they come to
visit me” Hara told Bishop. “You’re trying to pick me and it’s not working,
nope,” Bishop said. “Is it Texas Roadhouse” Hara asked Bishop. “Nope,
just sit back and be surprised because I’m not telling you” Bishop told
Hara. The drive to the destination only took two minutes as the Lima zine
drove to the restaurant. Bishop told Hara to close her eyes and held his
hand on her eyes when they got out so he could walk her to the restaurant.

“I already know what restaurant we’re going to” Hara told Bishop. “No
you don’t.” “You just think you do, close your eyes pleaseee” Bishop said
to Hara. Hara closed her eyes as Bishop got out of the Lima zine and pulled
her out of the Lima zine with his strong muscular arms. He closed the door
when she got out and guided her towards the restaurant. When they get
up to the restaurant door, he opened it and told her to walk in and open
her eyes. She walked in, Bishop walked in behind her and she opened her
eyes. She smiled and said to Bishop, “Oh my Godd Bishop” Hara said.
“How did you know I’ve wanted to eat here” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop
told her, “Well, I heard you mention something about wanting to eat here,
when you were talking on the phone with me last week.” “Plus even if you
would have never said anything about eating here.” “I still would’ve taken
you here anyway because it’s one of the best restaurants in San Marcos.”
“You’re so right, lots of students at TSU brags on this restaurant.” “They
brag about how beautiful the art decorations are and how good their
southwestern-style tuna is” Hara told Bishop. A waitress walked up, greeted
them, and then escorts them to a table in the corner of the restaurant.
Bishop and Hara sit a across from each other. The waiter asked them what
they would like to drink. Hara said she wanted a sweet tea and Bishop said
he would like the same. They both said, “Thank you.” The waitress said,
“You’re welcome, I’ll be back,” and gave them both a menu booklet.” Hara
looked at Bishop and said, “Thank you, for bringing me out to eat here.”
“You’re welcome, actually I should be thanking you for allow me to bring
you out to eat, so thank you” Bishop told Hara. They both laughed as they
looked on the menus. Two minutes later, the waitress came back with the
glass of sweet teas. She sat them on the table, and took her small order
tablet out with her pin. “So, are you ready to order or do you need more
time” the waitress said to them. Hara said, “I’m ready to order now.” Hara
looked at her menu and said, “I’m going to have the southwestern-style
tuna with the wild rice and vegetables.” As the waitress was writing what
she wanted down in her tablet, Bishop said, “And I’m going to have the
islander with Tilapia.” The waitress wrote all of this down. After she was
done writing the orders down she said, “Okay, I’ll be back with your orders
shortly, let me know if you two need anything else.” Okay, we will,” Bishop
told her. The waitress walked away. Bishop stared at Hara as she looked
around the restaurant. She saw a couple of her classmates as she looked
around the restaurant. “I see a lot of my classmates are eating here tonight
too” Hara said as she looked back at Bishop. She noticed Bishop was
34

staring at her. She asked Bishop, “What’s wrong.” “Nothing,” Bishop said
to Hara. “It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen each other and you
still look as beautiful as you did in high school” Bishop said. “Well thank
you, so do you,” Hara said. “Hara I know you may not want to hear this
but I would like to apologize for what I did to you in high school” Bishop
said. “Bishop let’s just leave the past in the past and move forward with
our lives” Hara told Bishop. Bishop asked Hara, “Well if it’s in the past,
why won’t you give me another chance and get back with me?” “Bishop,”
Hara said to Bishop. “Do you know that you’re all I’ve been thinking about
since you left me in the high school parking lot?” “What you said to me
still haunts me to this day.” “Bissshoppp, I thought we weren’t going to
talk about this again” Hara said to Bishop. “Every relationship I’ve been
in since you left me, never worked out right because I would always
compare them to you; from your personality to how beautiful you are.”
“The way you talk.” “I even, I even compare them by the way they walk”
Bishop told Hara. Hara interrupted Bishop one more time in a loud tone
of voice. “BISHOP” Hara yelled. She looked around and noticed people
at other tables in their area got quiet and looked at her and Bishop for a
brief moment, then started back talking and eating. Bishop stopped
talking. “Let’s just live in the moment and have a good time with the time
we have left together.” “Forget about the past and focus on the future”
Hara told Bishop. “Then after this experience is over, I can continue
studying at TSU and you can continue studying and playing football at
Auburn University, okay” Hara told Bishop. “Okay Hara but I need you
to know,” Bishop said to Hara. Before he could say anything else the
waitress came back with their orders. “Here is your Islander with Tilapia
sir and here’s your southwestern-style seared tuna ma’am,” said the waitress.
Hara and Bishop both thanked her for bringing their orders. The waiter
told them, “You’re Welcome” and walked away. Bishop continued talking,
“I need you to know I never stopped loving you and never will stop loving
you.” “Okay Bishop, I’m aware of how you feel.” “Now let’s eat and enjoy
our dinner” Hara told Bishop. Hara and Bishop began to eat. “Mmmmm,
wow, this tuna is lovely.” “Now I see what my fellow classmates are talking
about” Hara said. “Here eat a piece,” Hara told Bishop. Hara lets him eat
a piece of tuna from her fork. Bishop commented on how it tasted to him.
“Mmmmm it’s delicious; but not better than my tilapia, here try mine,”
Bishop told Hara. Hara sampled a piece of his tilapia from his fork.
“Hmmmm, not bad but it’s not better than my tuna, sorry Bishop” Hara

said. “Oh yes it is,” Bishop said. “Oh no, it isn’t,” Hara said. They both
began laughing and talking about old memories about the restaurants they
ate at back in Coffeeville and compared them to the restaurant they were
at as they ate their meals. They both agreed, out of all of the restaurants
they ever ate at back at home that The Root Cellar (the restaurant they were
eating at) was the best restaurant out of all of the restaurants they both
had ever eaten at. After a brilliant meal and brilliant conversations about
the good old times they had in high school; their bellies were full and they
were both ready to leave. The waitress brought their bill and put it on their
table. Hara and Bishop both argued over whose paying for the meals. Hara
wanted to pay for her own bill but Bishop wanted to pay for both his meal
and her meal. Bishop told Hara, “I’m the one who asked you to hang out
with me tonight so therefore, I’m paying for the meals” Bishop told Hara.
Hara replies, “You rented the lima zine and the motel so I should pay for
my own meal.” “Actually I should be offering to pay for both meals but I
know you wouldn’t let me.” “Hell Naw, you’re not paying for my meal or
yours either” Bishop told Hara. “I’m a man, a real man, a real man is
supposed to pay for his meal and the lady’s meal that he takes out to eat,”
Bishop told Hara. “Now if you want to pay for something, you can leave
a tip for the waitress but I’m paying for the meals Missy and that’s final”
Bishop told Hara. “Well excuse, me for trying to be thoughtful Mr. 1960’s
man.” “I didn’t know you felt so strongly about an independent college
woman paying for her own meal” Hara said to Bishop. Hara started
laughing as Bishop folded his arm, turned his head to the right and tilted
it up in the air without smiling saying, “Well…I do.” Bishop noticed the
waitress walking by their table and called her to get her attention, she came
to the table. “I would like to pay for these meals, please,” Bishop told the
waitress. He handed her the credit card along with the bill. “Okay, I’ll be
right back with your receipt and card sir, and just in case I forget to say
this when I come back,” “thank you and you for eating at The Root Cellar”
the waiter said. The waiter walked away. Hara said, “Well since you
wouldn’t let me pay for our meals, I’m a put down a $20.00 tip for the
waitress because she did a great job.” Bishop said, “Yea that will be good.”
“She did do a great job.” “She deserves a $20.00 tip.” The waitress brought
Bishop’s receipt and card back to him. Then she walked away to greet other
people that were walking in. Bishop and Hara walked out of the restaurant.
They got back into the Lima zine. “So what motel are we going to” Hara
asked Bishop. “You mean what hotel we are going to,” Bishop said to Hara.
36

Hara looked at Bishop and he looked back at her. They looked at each other
for 5 seconds. “What are you up to Mr. Summers,” Hara asked Bishop.
“Do you think you’re going to get lucky enough to get into my vagina
tonight” Hara asked Bishop. “No, that’s not what I’m after.” “I want your
heart not what’s between your legs.” “Getting your vagina can come later
on once I’ve pursued your heart.” “I’ve had my share of vaginas throughout
high school and even the first part of my college year” Bishop told Hara.
“And what will you do if I never give you my heart and we never get back
together” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop dropped his head and looked down
towards his lap while twirling his index finger around on his lap; then
looked back up at Hara and said, “I don’t want to look at it like that
because I’m very determined when it comes down to something or someone
I really want.” “But if it does come down to that and I never get back with
you.” “I would have no other choice but to move on and get with another
woman.” “But I would make sure she’s the total opposite of you so I could
never grow to love her.” “She would never have my heart because you would
still have my heart even though you broke it.” “I would never love another
woman and I would let her know this before and after we would get into
a relationship.” “And if she couldn’t accept that then I would break up with
her and get with the next woman letting her know the same thing.” “Well,
what if I changed my mind one day in the future, called you and told you
I changed my mind and I want to get back into a relationship with you;
but you were already in a relationship with another woman at this time”
Hara asked Bishop. “I would tell her it’s over and she needs to move on
with her life” Bishop said in a firm tone of voice. Hara was very surprised
at Bishop’s response to her question. “Wow, you really would be that cold
hearted towards her” Hara asked Bishop. “It’s not being cold hearted
towards her if she already knows who my heart still belonged too.” “She
would already know before and after I get into a relationship with her that
it would never be any love between me and her” Bishop told Hara. Hara
said, “You may not be in love with her but she probably may have fallen
in love with you.” “Soooo, didn’t nobody put a gun to her head and make
her fall in love with me.” “She would’ve felt that way on her own, I
would’ve already told her that I could never love her.” “An alarm bigger
than New York City, should’ve gone off in her head telling her to run the
other way.” “But if she’s foolish enough to ignore that alarm thinking she’s
going to change how I feel in my heart.” “Then she would’ve set her own
self up to get hurt” Bishop told Hara. “You can’t tell someone not to love

you” Hara told Bishop. “And she can’t make me love her when I know I
love someone else” Bishop implied to Hara. Hara laughed at him. “You
can’t possibly be serious” Hara said to Bishop. Bishop gave her a serious
look. “Yes I am serious,” Bishop told Hara. “What about if she was pregnant
by you or she already had a baby by you?” “Would it be that easy for you
to leave her for me then” Hara asked Bishop. “If she was pregnant by me
I would still check on her and come see her just to make sure she’s okay
because she would be carrying my baby.” “If she already had our baby; I
would still take care of my baby and spend time with him or her.” “I would
even be with her in the delivery room when she’s having our baby but I
would still leave her to be with you” Bishop said. “I don’t believe you would
be that cold hearted towards the mother of your child.” “I don’t think it
would be that easy for you to leave her being that you and she had a baby
together.” “Once two people have a baby together, they have a bond
between each other that no other woman or man could break” Hara told
Bishop. Bishop said, “We could still have a bond together and not be
together.” “I’d even have a little love for her for having my our child but
that doesn’t mean I’m obligated to stay with her or marry her because we
have a child together when I know I could never love her in the same way
I love you.” “I can still be a good father to my child and don’t have to be
with the mother of my child.” “That’s where a lot of guys mess up at.” “They
get with a woman who they don’t love but she loves him even though she
knows that he don’t feel the same way about her.” “She tries to make him
love her but everything she does doesn’t work.” “So, she gets ideas from
her friends of ways she can trap him.” “She stops taking her birth control
pills but she lies to him like she’s still on the pills.” “The man gets
comfortable and starts having sex with her without protection.” “Pretty
soon, she becomes pregnant, now she thinks he’ll love her because she has
something that’s apart of him.” “He finds out she’s pregnant and that’s how
the trap begins.” “He feels like he has to marry her because it’s the right
thing to do.” “Because he feels like he has obligations to her.” “I may be
old fashion to a certain extent but I’m not all the way old fashion.” “I firmly
believe that not under any circumstance a person should marry someone
they don’t really love.” “Especially, if the person still loves someone else.”
“The reason why you shouldn’t is because you’ll always compare that man
or woman you married with that person you still love and no matter how
you compare that person you married to that person you really love.” “He
or she will never measure up equally with that person you really love.”
38
Jaytilya M. Watkins
“That person you loved and didn’t marry will always measure up on a
higher level than that person you settled for and married” Bishop told
Hara. Hara was sitting back in the seat quietly looking into Bishop’s face
and eyes as he explained to her his beliefs. “So, Hara, now that you have
heard my beliefs” Bishop told Hara. “Tell me am I wrong for having my
own beliefs about love, marriage, and so forth or are those females who try
to make men love them by trying to trap them with babies are wrong”
Bishop asked Hara. Hara responds, “I think you all are wrong.” “They are
wrong for purposely trying to get pregnant by those guys without them
knowing.” “If a man can’t love you for you; then you shouldn’t try to make
him love you.” “Love should never be forced from another person.” “If love
is what those women are seeking.” “They should start by loving their selves
first and move on to someone that will love them.” “I feel like you are
wrong for giving up on love just because one person doesn’t love you.”
“There are several women out there that are prettier than I, have a better
personality than I, and will love you deeper than I ever would.” “Take my
mom and stepdad for an example; after my dad died.” “She still loved my
dad while dating my stepdad.” “They got married while she still had love
for my dad and my stepdad knew that but he was still willing to love her
and be with her.” “It took some time for her to get over my dad and she
still has love for my dad to this day.” “But years after she married my
stepdad and had my brother by him, she’s in love my stepdad now.” “I’m
telling you this as a friend, if we never become more than just friend, don’t
give up on love Bishop.” “Don’t live the rest of your life treating women as
doormats” Hara told Bishop. “Can you do this for me” Hara asked Bishop.
“No, Hara, I don’t think I ever could,” Bishop told Hara. “Well, what if I
told you I wouldn’t give up on love if you and I never get back together.”
“I would still be looking for my dream man” Hara told Bishop. Bishop
looked out of the window of the Lima zine as it stopped and turned into
the hotel entrance. Bishop looked back at Hara and said “That would only
be because you’ve failed to realize that I’m your dream man.” “It may take
you a long time to realize it but eventually you will” Bishop told Hara. By
this time the Lima zine had pulled up to the front entrance of the hotel.
Bishop opened the door with Hara’s travel bag in his hand. Hara said
nothing as she was getting out behind him. Once she got out she said, “Oh
my God, I haven’t spent the night at a Hampton’s Hotel since forever.” She
closed the Lima zine door and it drives away. They started walking towards
the front entrance door of the hotel. Hara continues talking, “The last time

I spent the night at a Hampton’s hotel was when I was in the 9th
grade and
my mom took the whole family on a summer trip.” “Rozesita and I took
lots of pictures on that trip.” “Where did y’all go that summer” Bishop
asked Hara. “I think it was SIX FLAGS OVER GEORGIA,” Hara told
Bishop. Bishop laughed; “You went to SIX FLAGS in the 9th
grade that’s
a little too old to go to SIX FLAGS.” “My parents took me to SIX FLAGS
when I was 7 years old,” Bishop told Hara while laughing. “I WASN’T
TOO OLD” Hara said to Bishop in a snappy voice. “Yes, you wazzzz,”
Bishop said while smiling. Bishop and Hara were up to the double doors
of the front entrance of the hotel and he opened one of the doors for Hara
to walk in first. Hara said in response while going in, “And you brag about
going to SIX FLAGS at 7 years old but I went to DISNEY WORLD when
I was 6 years old so NANA, NAN, NAN, NAN, NANNNN” Hara said
to Bishop. Bishop started laughing again and said, “Well at least I went to
both SIX FLAGS and DISNEY WORLD before entering the 9th
grade.”
“Now NANA, NAN, NAN, NAN, that.” “Oh you go to hell Bishop,”
Hara said smiling. The receptionist at the front desk asked, “May I help
you?” “Huh, oh yes, we have reservations here,” Bishop said to the
receptionist. He took the card key out of his pocket and held it up. “We
already bought the room.” “We’re just arriving to go to it.” Bishop told the
receptionist. “Do you know where it is,” the receptionist asked Bishop.
“Yea, I know,” Bishop said to the receptionist as he began to walk into the
lobby with Hara following him. “So what’s the room number,” Hara asked
Bishop. “It’s 237 and it’s on the 3rd
floor of the hotel,” Bishop told Hara.
“What else do you have planned for us Mr. Summers,” Hara asked Bishop
as they walked through the lobby. “Whatever you would like for us to do”
Bishop told Hara. They both get on the elevator and Bishop pressed the
button for the 3rd
floor. “Well I figure since we’re going to a party tomorrow
we could practice dancing to fast and slow music” Hara told Bishop. “If
that’s okay with you,” Hara asked Bishop. “That’s cool with me, even
though, I don’t need any practice.” “I’ve been to several college parties,”
Bishop said to Hara. “Anything else you would like to do,” Bishop asked
Hara. “Let’s just see what tonight brings,” Hara said to Bishop. The elevator
stopped at the 3rd
floor. They walked out of the elevator. Bishop and Hara
finally got to room 237. He took out the key and unlocked the door. He
opened the door and let Hara walk in first, then he walked in behind her
and closed the door. Hara looked around the room saying, “Wow, this
room is bigger than three dorm rooms put together, this must be a

  • 8. vii Introduction This story is a fictional story about an 18 year old white girl named Hara Weatherson who is a recent graduate from her high school in a small town named Coffeeville, Mississippi; a town in Yalobusha County. She was born in Miami, Florida to her mom Katheran Weatherson and father Haramod Weatherson. Her father was a big time criminal defense lawyer and heir to a family oil company that his parents owned. Her father died in a fatal car accident when she was just two years old. Her mom sued the truck company and received millions along with the house and money left to her and Hara in his will. Katheran also becomes owner of the law firm. Katheran soon moved Hara from Miami, Florida to Coffeeville, Mississippi where she grew up at. Katheran married a guy named Allen Wooden. Hara’s mom and stepdad were very wealthy so all her life she always had gotten mostly anything she wanted. Coffeeville was all Hara had known since she was two years old. Hara craved to live somewhere no one knew her; she craved adventure. After graduating high school she decided to go to college at TSU which is Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas which was 684.52 miles away from Coffeeville, Mississippi; where she reunites with her high school ex-boyfriend, Bishop Summers and also became friends with a guy named Stephen Golden. Stephen had become obsessed with her the first time he looked into her eyes but once Hara and Bishop gets back into a relationship. Stephen finds out about it. Stephen teamed up with one of Hara’s fellow female roommate and plotted to break them up. Once the break up back fired and things don’t go the way Stephen planned it. He kidnapped Hara, held hostage, beat, and raped her inside of his barn for three weeks. A day within those three weeks; Stephen will force Hara (by gun point) to make her family
  • 9. viii Jaytilya M. Watkins and friends think she just wanted to be left alone. She turned her mom, friends, and Bishop away. Stephen also forced her to quit college. Katheran (Hara’s mom) isn’t convinced by Hara’s new attitude and had a strange feeling something wasn’t right. So she contacted a private investigator and longtime friend, named Henry Crenshaw to help her find Hara. They also teamed up with Bishop to find Hara. The journey to find Hara will be easy; the journey to rescue Hara will be very challenging and dangerous. They will have to put a plan together to rescue her.
  • 10. 1 Chapter 1 About Hara & Hara’s Family Background This story starts in Coffeeville, Mississippi; the population in Coffeeville was 922. It was mostly populated with African Americans. There were only two schools in the small town; the elementary school which was Pre-K through 7th grade and the high school which was 8th grade through 12th grade. This high school was where Hara had recently graduated from with honors. She graduated top of her class, with a scholarship to go to any college or university she chose. She chose to go to TSU (Texas State University). She had already done her research on many different colleges and universities but she just so happened to fall in love with TSU. She had been told by the university administrators of TSU over the phone about how well she would prosper educationally by going to TSU. So, one day Katheran (Hara’s mom), Allen Jr. (Hara’s brother), and Hara visited the university to check it out for their selves. The professors were friendly, the administrators were polite, and welcomed them with open arms. The atmosphere was very peaceful; Hara enjoyed the whole experience, and was really convinced that she was going to enroll at TSU. The University reminded her of the high school she recently graduated from but the difference between the high school and TSU was she knew no one there. This difference was exciting for Hara being that everyone at her high school knew her. Hara was very popular all through her high school years by black people and white people. In a small town where there was a lot of conflict and discrimination between the two races; a white girl being popular
  • 11. 2 Jaytilya M. Watkins among both races was very usual. None of that bothered Hara; she didn’t judge anyone or act hateful towards anyone because of the color of their skin. She treated everyone fairly and was very friendly to everyone. She had white friends and black friends. She had two best friends that were black and two best friends that were white. Rozesita Chambers was her female black best friend along with her brother who was named Todd Chambers. Courtney Knapp was her female white best friend and Cameron Wilson was her male white best friend. Rozesita was a year older than Todd and a grade ahead of Todd. Rozesita and Hara were the same age and in the same grade. Rozesita and Hara had been best friends since the 2nd grade so it was only natural for Hara to become best friends with Todd as well. Rozesita and Todd’s mom, (Veta Chambers) also became friends with Hara’s mom, (Katheran Wooden). Veta was a single mom who had been a cashier at the supermarket in Coffeeville for 5 years before Katheran gave her a job working as an assistant at her and her husband’s car dealership in Coffeeville. Rozesita and Todd didn’t have a father figure in their lives. Both of their fathers walked out on their mother while they were still infants. Veta was their mother and their father. Whenever Veta would be working, Rozesita and Todd would have to stay with a neighbor or relative until she got off work. She would have to pay them for babysitting her kids. Even though, she worked long hours; she would always make sure their homework was done and they were doing well in school. She would always encourage them to make good grades and go to college because she didn’t want them to follow the same path as she did growing up. She always talked to them and disciplined them when they would do something wrong. Katheran Wooden’s (Hara mom’s) life was quite different from Veta’s (Rozesita & Todd’s mom) life. Katheran was a millionaire due to the death of her first husband (Hara’s father) although her family already had a little money before she married him. His (Hara’s father) name was Haramod Weatherson. He was a big time criminal defense attorney; he was also next in line to own his father’s multi-billion dollars oil company after he died. Katheran was his secretary. He was 30 years old and Katheran was just 20 years old when they first met. Katheran came into his law firm one day for an interview to get the secretary position. Once they saw each other, they both became intrigued with one another. He hired her as his secretary. He didn’t even care about whether or not she had experience. He trained her, his self on how to file paperwork, answer phones, and everything pertaining to secretary work. After a week, all of the training
  • 12. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 3 paid off. Katheran was doing a greater job at being a secretary than a secretary who had been a secretary for years. Haramod and Katheran fell in love with each other, within three months, got married in six months, and had Hara a year later. They were so happy, they both adored Hara. The happiness was short lived and would soon sour two years later.
  • 13. 4 Chapter 2 More About Hara’s Familys’ Background Haramod was driving through Miami, Florida (where Katheran and Haramod lived) he was on his way to the court house to represent one of his clients in a court case. He stopped at a red light, an 18 wheeler behind him was going so fast until he wasn’t able to stop. The 18 wheeler hit Haramod from behind very hard, pushing him into the oncoming traffic. He got hit again by the other cars. The truck still wasn’t able to stop and also hit the other cars too. Many people cars got damaged along with their selves but it was Haramod who was the most injured. His car was so damaged the firefighters had to cut him out of the car. He was fatally injured, Katheran and Hara wasn’t in the car with him at the time. Katheran was at the law firm office; filing paperwork, and taking calls. Hara was at daycare. When the ambulance arrived and tried to revive him, they wasn’t successful, so they took him to the hospital in the ambulance and tried to revive him there for an hour but nothing worked. They pronounced him dead after an hour. Katheran received a call from the hospital that was unexpected. When the hospital staff told her that her husband was in the hospital due to a car accident and she needed to come to the hospital right away; Katheran dropped everything she was doing, left the office, and rushed through traffic just to get to the hospital to see Haramod. She prayed and prayed to Jesus for Haramod to be okay. When arriving at the hospital she told the nurses who she was and who she was there to see, they gave her the look of pity, they told the doctor and they let her go into the E/R. The doctor told
  • 14. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 5 her Haramod was dead. Katheran burst into tears as the doctor escorted her into the room where the corpse of her husband was. She saw Haramod’s bruised, bloody, lifeless body lying on the hospital bed. She ran to the bed, grabbed Haramod, and laid him in her arms while leaning back and forth crying, “No, No, No, No.” She held him the whole time crying until the driver for the funeral home came to pick him up. She didn’t want to let him go then. When Katheran lost Haramod, it devastated her but made her very wealthy. Haramod wrote out a will and set up a trust fund for Hara two months after she was born. Hara would receive the trust fund which was $500,000 after she graduated from high school. Haramod had it in a will, that if he died, he wanted his wife and baby girl to inherit his $80 million dollars in the bank that his father gave him, his $100,000 dollar home, and 500 acres of land. His reason for writing this will and trust fund was so if anything was to happen to him, his family would be secure. He didn’t want his family to have to beg anyone for nothing. Haramod’s funeral was very sad and depressing. Haramod’s family, ex-clients, current clients, his staff at his firm, and Katheran’s family all came to his funeral. Katheran and Hara were there too, but Hara was too young to know what was going on; she was only two years old at the time. Katheran was so upset about the love of her life’s death that when Haramod’s coffin was going down into the ground at the burial site; she tried to jump into the ground with it, relatives and others had to stop her. Weeks after the funeral, Katheran was still grieving about Haramod but became furious at the company of the truck driver who caused the accident and death of her husband. She took $5,000 dollars out of the bank, paid for an attorney who represented cases involving car accidents, and tried to sue the company of B & B Hauling for $20 million dollars but settled for $7 million dollars in court. She also wanted an apology from the company and for them to fire that truck driver who caused her husband’s death. The truck driver had already been fired so they gave her $7 million dollars and an apology. She could’ve tried to get more but she didn’t, she was okay with just that. She already had millions of dollars, a house, and a law firm so she didn’t push the issue. Haramod’s parents also gave her $30 million dollars for her and Hara to live on. Katheran set up another trust fund for Hara in the amount of $20 million dollars for her to receive once she turned 21 years old. Since Haramod was dead, he could no longer be heir to the oil company that his parent’s owned so that went to his brother, Arnold Weatherson.
  • 15. 6 Chapter 3 More About Hara & Family Background Although Katheran had the wealth that most women craved for, that wasn’t enough to mend her broken heart. Every area in her two-story home reminded her of Haramod. Places in Miami reminded her of Haramod. So, she made an decision one night (after crying her eyeballs out) to put the house up for rent; move her, Hara, and her housemaid away from Miami and to Coffeeville, Mississippi where her father was living at and where she was born and raised at. She made this decision a month after Haramod’s death. Her father was thrilled to find out Katheran was going to move back there. He searched for some houses that were for sale in Coffeeville that Katheran could purchase. He found her a house and 200 arches of land for sale that she could buy. The location where the house and land were wasn’t too far away from where he lived. It had a six bedroom, two baths, a kitchen, and dine-in room in it. Just like the house that she and Haramod lived in, it had an upstairs/downstairs but unlike the house that her and Haramod shared; it had a swimming pool. Haramod didn’t want a swimming pool at the house he and Katheran shared because he didn’t know how to swim. Katheran knew how to swim so when her father told her the house had a swimming pool in it, she became excited about it and wanted to buy it. Her father mailed her the paperwork to buy it. She filled out the documents and mailed it back along with the check she wrote out to buy the house. The price for the house was $100,000. The price didn’t matter to Katheran, she would’ve paid $500,000; she just wanted
  • 16. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 7 to move away from Miami. She didn’t want to get constantly reminded that Haramod was gone and was never coming back. She thought if she could have a fresh start by moving to another state, it would help her to slowly erase her memories she had of her dead husband. She also didn’t want Hara to grow up in Miami living a fast life. She wanted Hara to have a peaceful life growing up in a small town like Coffeeville, Mississippi. A week later, she moved Hara, herself, and the housemaid to Coffeeville, Mississippi. She drove the whole way. Behind her car followed; the housemaid in her own car, and four U-Haul trucks carrying their belongings. It took them a couple of days to get to Coffeeville, Mississippi but they finally arrived. When they pulled into the yard, her father (Mr. Windull) and stepmom (Mrs.Windull) who had been waiting for them to arrive in the house welcomed them in with open arms. Her father and stepmom had both taken off work just to wait inside the house for them until they arrived. Mr. Windull gave Katheran and Hara a hug when they arrived. He also gave Katheran the key to the house. Life in Coffeeville for Katheran and Hara became great. But memories of Haramod still lingered in Katheran’s mind. Hara looked exactly like her father, Haramod. Hara only had Katheran’s sky blue eyes, but she had brunette hair and facial features like her father. Every time Katheran would look at Hara, she saw Haramod staring back at her. Katheran learned how to cope with this and grew to look at it as a blessing. She loved her daughter and gave her everything her little heart desired and everything she needed. A year later, she met Allen Wooden. He was a firefighter for Coffeeville. They became a couple after five months of dating. The love she had for him didn’t come as quickly as the love she had for Haramod because she still had love for him even though he was dead. He still was in her heart. But Allen was head over heels in love with her. He was aware of the death of her departed husband and understood she still had love for him; but he didn’t care about that. He told her he would give her all of the time in the world that she needed to get over him. He knew she would never completely lose all of her love for him because she had a baby by him and he accepted that fact. Allen was crazy about Hara too and treated Hara as if she was his own daughter. Katheran watched how he acted towards Hara and noticed that. That made her fall for him even more. One day, Allen took Katheran, Hara, Mr. and Mrs. Windull (Katheran’s father and stepmom), and Barba (the housemaid) out to eat at a fancy restaurant in Coffeeville. In the middle of everybody at the table socializing and laughing, Allen got
  • 17. 8 Jaytilya M. Watkins everyone’s attention, he declared his love for Katheran, got down on one knee, and proposed to her. He proposed to her with a 50 karat gold ring; Katheran said yes. It had only been seven months they had been in a relationship together. Even though, she had strong feelings for him, she still didn’t love him in the same way that she loved Haramod but she realized she needed to open another chapter in her life, plus she wanted Hara to have a father figure in her life. To Katheran, Allen would make a perfect father figure for her daughter. So, the next day, they went to the courthouse in Coffeeville and got married. Her marriage to Haramod was different; she had a wedding dress, bride’s maids, flower girl, a church, and everything that you would dream of in a wedding. This time around, she just wanted something quick and simple. Allen tried to offer her a fancy wedding but she didn’t want it. She asked Allen, “Why spend unnecessary money on things that you don’t even have to spend money on.” Allen accepted what Katheran wanted, he didn’t care whether they had a wedding or not. He just wanted to be married to the woman of his dreams which was Katheran. Hara was three years old when they got married. Allen moved into Katheran’s house, quit his job, and they went into business together. They became owners of their own car dealership called, “A & K’s Car Dealership.” The business was very successful and very profitable financially. Followed by their success was a pregnancy. Hara was four years old when her brother Allen Wooden Jr. was born. Allen was so full of joy in the delivery room of the hospital in Coffeeville. Hara was also happy about her new baby brother. She said he was her baby. Even though, Katheran had a daughter and a son, she was always closer to Hara than she was with Allen Jr., mainly because Hara was the oldest and the same sex as her. But she loved both of her kids the same and spoiled them both. She also set up a trust fund for Allen Jr. in the amount of $20 million that he would receive after he turned 21 years old. Although, Allen had a son by Katheran, he still treated Hara like she was his own daughter. He never made difference between them, he treated them both fairly. If he bought something for Allen Jr.; he also bought Hara something too. That’s Katheran’s story. Katheran met Veta at a second grade parent and teacher’s conference at the elementary school in Coffeeville. Both Rozesita and Hara bragged on each other to their mothers so they already knew who the kids were. After the conference was over, Katheran saw Veta having car trouble in the school parking lot and stopped to give her assistance. Being that Katheran was a car salesman and hung around mechanics that worked for
  • 18. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 9 her at the car dealership, she knew a great deal about cars. She tried everything she could to get Veta’s car to crank but it wouldn’t never crank. So, Katheran called one of her mechanics who had a tow truck to come get it, take it to the shop at the car dealership and fix it free of charge. Katheran also offered to take Veta home. During the trip to the projects where Veta lived, through conversation they discovered their daughters were best friends. That was how they became friends. Rozesita and Todd would spend many nights over Katheran and Allen’s house with Hara and Allen Jr. Whenever Katheran and Allen would take their kids on vacations, they would take Rozesita and Todd along with them. Katheran and Veta became so close that Katheran and Allen gave Veta 2 arches of land, they also gave her a job at their car dealership as an assistant. At first, Veta turned everything they offered down because of her pride. But she eventually, let her guard down and took the gift the Woodens had given her. Veta had never been given anything by anyone, she always had to earn what she received in life which wasn’t much but at least she had her two kids, Rozesita and Todd. Now she had an extended family of another color. Rozesita, Todd, Hara, and Allen Jr. were like brothers and sisters. They all had each other’s backs growing up; race was never an issue to them. Hara and Allen Jr. never called them the “N-word” and would defend them if ever someone that was white called them the “N-Word.” Rozesita and Todd didn’t call them a “Cracker or Honky,” and would defend them if someone black called them a “Cracker or Honky.”
  • 19. 10 Chapter 4 Hara’s High School Years In high school, Hara and Rozesita would have several pool parties at Katheran and Allen’s house with their approval. Even though, Allen Jr. loved Hara, Rozesita, and Todd. He was younger than them so he wasn’t always able to hang with them or go the places they went. He didn’t have many friends unlike Hara and wasn’t as popular as Hara but he didn’t care to have lots of friends or to be popular. So, when he was at school, he was mostly a loner with only a few friends in his grade. Hara was popular among whites and blacks but she had her own group of friends all through high school. Which were Rozesita, Todd, Cameron Willston and Courtney Knapp. She had become friends with Cameron and Courtney her 8th grade year in high school. Courtney and Cameron didn’t really like Rozesita and Todd because they were black. Courtney and Cameron’s parents were very wealthy, but they didn’t like black people. They looked at black people as being the devil and taught Courtney and Cameron to have the same beliefs as them. But Courtney and Cameron knew how close Hara was to Rozesita and Todd so they kept their opinions of how they really felt about Rozesita and Todd to their selves. They tolerated being around them just to remain close to Hara. They knew if Hara found out about how racist they really were she wouldn’t be friends with them anymore. Hara looked like her dad but she had a fair loving heart like her mother. And just like her mom, she wasn’t a racist. Hara didn’t like racist people black or white. If you were a racist, she wanted nothing to do with you. As far as Hara having boyfriend, Hara and Rozesita had their first boyfriends in the 11th grade. Rozesita’s
  • 20. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 11 boyfriend was black and in the same grade as her and Hara. His name was Andrew Taylor and he played basketball for the high school. She lost her virginity to him after two months. They broke up three months after getting together. Hara’s boyfriend name was Bishop Summers. He was white, in the 12th grade, and was the star football player of the high school. He was very popular. Hara was falling for him at first but one of Bishop’s best friends told her something bad about Bishop which made her think he was only after one thing. So, she never lost her virginity to him. She was more focused on getting her schoolwork and homework done than losing her virginity to Bishop. Hara also read a lot of romance novels and was obsessed with saving herself for the special man she was going to meet after she graduated from high school and college. She didn’t look at Bishop as being that special guy, even though women use to throw their selves on him. High school cheerleaders from the high school and other high schools use to throw their selves all over him. But out of respect for Hara, he would only have sex with the cheerleaders from other high schools in other counties whenever he had the opportunity. Hara already had a feeling he was having sex with other girls but she never caught him. She even thought, Bishop and Courtney were having sex but she never caught them. Until one day, Hara was walking to her car after school was over with for that day. Rozesita was supposed to ride home with her but she decided to let her boyfriend take her home. Todd had to stay at school for basketball practice. Allen Jr. was at home sick with the flu. Usually, Rozesita and Todd would ride with Hara and Allen Jr. in Hara’s car back and forth to school because they all lived by each other. So, it was just Hara walking to her car that day. She noticed Bishop’s blue, four door, truck parked in the parking lot of the high school and her friend, Courtney’s pink, four doors, Mercedes Benz right beside Bishop’s truck. The truck was bouncing up and down as she walked closer to it. When she got closer she could hear sounds of pleasure coming from a man and woman coming out of the truck. When she finally walked up to the truck and looked through the mirror tinted back door window of the truck, she saw two people in the backseat of the truck. Then she heard the woman scream out Bishop’s name, Hara then knew it was Bishop; she got angry and opened up the back truck door. She saw Courtney in the back seat of the truck on top of Bishop. Their clothes were completely off. They both looked at Hara in fear; Bishop pushed Courtney to the side of him and tried to explain. “Baby, I’m sorry, I know it looks bad but it’s not what it looks like” Bishop
  • 21. 12 Jaytilya M. Watkins told Hara. Courtney interrupted Bishop and said, “Yes, it is!” “He told me that you won’t have sex with him and he’s getting tired of you spending more time studying and with your Nigga Friends,” “than you are with him.” Hara became more furious when Courtney called her best friends the “N-Word.” “First of all, you two can keep Rozesita and Todd out of this;” “they’re closer to me than you two could ever be.” “Second of all;” “I already had a feeling you two were having sex with each other by the way you two acted towards each other when I’m around” Hara said to Courtney and Bishop. Bishop interrupted Hara, “But Hara, but Hara, it wasn’t like that.” Hara interrupted Bishop, “But Hara my ass,” “I really and truly don’t give a rat’s ass about how it was like and why it happened.” “I don’t even give a damn about it happening,” “it’s not like I gave up my virginity to you anyway and now I’m glad I didn’t,” Hara said. Bishop got angry when Hara said that. “That’s why I cheat on you because you think you’re too good to have sex with me,” “other girls would kill to have sex with me;” “but you won’t even give me a chance to prove to you that I can be your dream man if you gave me a chance,” Bishop said to Hara. “You’re right, Bishop and I never will;” “the guy of my dreams wouldn’t have never done this;” “as far as I’m concerned you can keep having sex with Courtney;” Hara told Bishop. “Courtney our friendship is over,” Hara told Courtney. “Fine” Courtney said to Hara. “Neither of you better not ever call my cell phone again,” “goodbye or as my sister Rozesita would say,” “Peace Out” Hara said to Courtney and Bishop. Hara slammed the truck door and walked away with her head up high. Bishop put his boxers back on and jumped out of the truck without listening to anything Courtney was trying to say to him. Other students who were getting in their cars, driving in their cars, and on the school bus saw Bishop running with his boxers on and begin to laugh at him. Bishop paid no attention to the sound of the laughing and pointing of the students. He ran behind Hara begging her to take him back. “I know I did wrong but I’m sorry, please except my apology and take me back.” “She came on to me first, I wasn’t thinking about her.” “I’m in love with you, you’re the woman I want to marry and have my kids by.” “Courtney means nothing to me, you’re the only woman that matters to me” Bishop said to Hara. Hara isn’t paying any attention to what Bishop is saying as she gets to her car and put her key in the lock of her car door to unlock it. After she unlocked the car door, Bishop grabbed her arm to get her attention. “Listen Hara,” “I know you’re saving yourself for your dream man but you need to realize that I am your dream

He bent down on one knee and asked her, “Hara will you marry me?” “You must be insane to think I would even consider marrying you after catching you fucking one of my friends,” Hara said to Bishop. “You’re not worthy enough to be my husband, you’re not even worthy enough to be my man,” Hara said to Bishop. “I would rather burn in hell and eat dog shit for eternity before I would ever consider marrying you” Hara said to Bishop. Tears started running down Bishop’s face. “My dream man is still out there in the world waiting on me and he’s not you,” Hara said to Bishop. Hara opened her car door, turned around to Bishop and said, “It’s over Bishop, goodbye!” She got into her car, closed the door, cranked it up, and spins off in her car; leaving Bishop standing there with nothing on but his boxers. He ran back to his truck, made Courtney get out and drove off. He tried to call Hara several times that day but she didn’t answer. But that still didn’t stop him from trying to call her every day. He would even harass her at school, Rozesita and Todd both would have to tell him to stop. He still wouldn’t give up. After Hara’s other friends found out what Courtney had done with Bishop, they didn’t want to hang around her anymore. She found other friends to hang with. After Bishop graduated from high school and enrolled at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama; he still would try to call Hara but she wouldn’t talk to him. She changed her cell phone number.
  • 23. 14 Chapter 5 Hara’s 12th Grade Year Hara’s senior high school year was very exciting. She didn’t get into anymore relationships but at least she had her three best friends; Rozesita, Todd, Cameron, and sometimes her brother Allen Jr. to hang around with during breaks and lunches. Allen Jr. was now in the 9th grade. Hara and Rozesita started doing their research early on different universities they wanted to attend after graduation. Rozesita decided she wanted to go to LSU (Louisiana State University) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She didn’t want to move too far away from home. Rozesita and Katheran tried their best to try to convince Hara to change her mind about wanting to attend TSU (Texas State University). The university was 10 hours and 32 minutes away from home. But Hara already had her mind made up. Rozesita was planning on attending LSU to get her bachelor’s degree in Business & Accounting and work beside Hara at her mom’s firm. Hara was planning on going to TSU to get her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Hara wanted to be a criminal defense attorney just like her father was before he died. She was planning on taking over the law firm her mom owned after passing the bar exam. Hara and Rozesita both discussed their plans to each other several times. They both was focused, knew what they wanted to do with their lives, and what direction they wanted to go in their lives. Prom night was electrifying for Hara, Rozesita, Todd, and Cameron. They all had dates but Todd had 10 dates. He danced with all 10 girls, took prom pictures with them, and after prom, he took all of them to a motel and had sex with all of them. Hara and Rozesita didn’t go to a motel with their
  • 24. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 15 dates after prom was over. They took them to an after party one of their classmates had invited them to. They partied like it was no tomorrow. Hara and Rozesita had gotten so drunk they couldn’t drive. So, they stayed the night there after the party was over. A few of the other classmates stayed the night too. They all crashed in the living room. They were sloppy drunk. They all had major hangovers the next day. One of the classmates; had to get rushed to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. The classmate died from it. Once Veta and Katheran found this information out along with the heavy drinking that they heard went on at the party; they grounded Hara and Rozesita for three weeks for engaging in the drinking activities at the party that night. They wasn’t allowed to go anywhere after school. They had to leave school and go straight to their houses. They wasn’t allowed to go hang out anywhere for three weekends. Hara and Rozesita both were angry about the terms of their punishment but they also felt like the amount of fun they both had at the after party they went to after prom was worth getting in trouble over. Hara and Rozesita finally graduated from high school the next month. Hara was Val Victorian of her class. Her grade point average was 99.9. Rozesita’s grade point average was a 95.9. That wasn’t as high as Hara’s but it was still a good grade point average. They both received scholarships to go to college. Katheran and Veta were so proud of them. The night after they graduated, they went to a graduation party and got drunk again but not sloppy drunk. Hara and Rozesita both got accepted at the college they wanted to enroll in. Rozesita got accepted at LSU and Hara got accepted at TSU. They were both going to go to the universities in the fall. Hara received her $500,000 trust fund her dad set up for her before he died. Hara wanted to start sooner but her family talked her out of it because they wanted to spend more time with her before she left. No one understood why she wanted to go to college so far away from home. She could’ve easily attended MSU (Mississippi State University) or LSU (Louisiana State University). But Hara had a secret desire for adventure. Moving somewhere no one knew her felt appealing to her.
  • 25. 16 Chapter 6 Hara’s Summer Vacation Before Starting College That summer before Hara had attended college in the fall was unforgettable for her and Rozesita. Katheran paid for her, Allen, Hara, Allen Jr., Veta, Rozesita, and Todd to go on a cruise ship for one month. The trip was exhilarating and soothing for everyone. Veta had gotten sea sick at first but she recovered after a couple of days. The ship was packed with many people of different races. Hara enjoyed the trip and thanked her mom for taking her and her friends. The ship was big and beautiful on the inside and had many rooms. It also had a restaurant that served lots of exotic foods and of course refreshments. There was lots of entertainment like people singing, dancing, telling jokes, people playing music with their instruments. There were even stores for tourist to shop in to buy clothes, shoes, and other items. If Hara could explain the experience, she would’ve described it as being, “Paradise in Flowing Water.” Hara and Rozesita both brought their cameras so they could take photos of each other as well as family and friends. They took a lot of photos so they could put them in their picture books. Everyone enjoyed the trip and looked at it as being astonishing. The fun lasted an entire month. After the adventure was over everyone complained because they didn’t want it to end. But the vacation wasn’t over yet, that trip was just over. Katheran also took them to Miami, Florida and rented two condos in front of the beach for everyone to stay in. They ate at fancy restaurants, shopped at the malls, and played in the sea water. They walked along the beach in the sand and
  • 26. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 17 played volley ball. Hara and Rozesita also took lots pictures there. In all, they had thousands of pictures from both adventures. Some photos they enhanced and most they just put into their photo books to take to college with them. That adventure only lasted three weeks. They drove back to Coffeeville, Mississippi with good memories and lots of stories to tell years later after the adventure was over. The month and three weeks of fun had finally ended. Two weeks later it was time for both Hara and Rozesita to leave for college. The day was bitter/sweet for both Veta and Katheran; they were happy about their daughters going to college for the purpose of accomplishing the things they wanted to do with their selves but they were sad about them leaving. Hara was the first one to leave since the university she was going to was so far away. Katheran, Allen, Allen Jr., Veta, Rozesita, and Todd all shed tears as Hara hugged them, saying goodbye before getting in her red, brand new, BMW M3, car (that Katheran had bought her for a graduation gift) and leaving. Two hours later, Rozesita left for LSU and the same sadness followed, she got into her brand new, white, Mustang (that Veta bought her) and left.
  • 27. 18 Chapter 7 Hara’s Experience Away From Home Hara was driving to San Marcos, Texas where TSU was located at. She had her cell phone with her so her parents could call and check on her to see was she okay. Katheran wanted to follow her there but Hara convinced her she was capable of getting to San Marcos on her own without supervision. Katheran taught and told her the street names to get on to get to San Marcos and to TSU. Katheran also gave her a map and mark down on the map what roads to get on even though she had a GPS in her car. Hara had the map with her on the passenger seat of her car. The only time she made stops was when she had to get gas at the gas stations. She didn’t talk to anyone on the way there whenever she would make stops. Katheran would call Hara every hour to make sure she was okay. Every time she talked to Hara, she would say, “Remember not to talk to strangers.” Hara would say, “I know mom, you don’t have to worry about me talking to strangers.” “Let me remind you I’m 18 years old,” “I can handle myself.” Rozesita arrived at LSU before Hara arrived at TSU because Baton Rouge, Louisiana was closer to Coffeeville, Mississippi than San Marcos was. Rozesita called Veta and Todd then called Hara after she had arrived. Rozesita called Hara bragging about how big the university was and how the college guys were trying to get with her. “Girllll, you should’ve enrolled at LSU, now I’m going to be holding this university down by myself, LSU have some fine looking guys here” Rozesita told Hara. “I’m not thinking about any guys.” “I’m going to stay focused on doing my work, making good grades, and graduating from college so I can be over the law firm and

Rozesita laughed after she said that. “Now, you have to promise me something,” Rozesita told Hara. “What,” Hara said to Rozesita. “You have to promise me that you won’t become a total nerd and forget to enjoy your life while being in college” Rozesita said to Hara. “I can’t promise you that,” Hara said to Rozesita. “Oh, come on Hara,” “just because you’re in college doesn’t mean that you have to be so uptight and not have any fun at all,” Rozesita told Hara. “It’s okay to have a little fun in college,” Rozesita said to Hara. “You need to loosen up and try to meet new people and new friends” Rozesita told Hara. “You always talked about finding your dream man.” “Your dream man just might be at TSU but if you remain uptight and not socialize with new people.” “You might not ever find him,” Rozesita told Hara. “Well if he’s my dream man,” “I’m not going to have to talk to him.” “He’s going to talk to me first.” “He’s going to love the fact that I’m a nerd and I would rather stay in my dorm room and study than go to college parties.” “He’s going to love everything about me inside and out;” “including my flaws, and he’s going to be perfect” Hara told Rozesita. “Boo Boo,” “I’ve been telling you this all through high school and you still aren’t listening to me.” “There isn’t any such thing as a perfect man.” “I don’t care if you do find this dream man that you’ve preached about or read about in those romance novel books that you read.” “He still won’t be perfect.” “No, man is perfect, Hara and if you do meet a guy who acts perfect and pretends to be perfect.” “I can guarantee you he’s going to be the main guy with a thousand of skeletons in his closet that you may not find out about until after you give him your virginity and marry him.” “Then that’s when you’re going to find out that he wasn’t as perfect as he was claiming to be.” “That’s when his dark side is going to show,” Rozesita told Hara. Hara listened quietly as Rozesita talked. “Hara I love you like a sister.” “If you can’t promise me anything else, just promise me that you won’t fall for a guy just because he acts and seems perfect and get caught in a trap,”
  • 29. 20 Jaytilya M. Watkins Rozesita told Hara. “I can promise you that I won’t,” “I can promise you that because I’m not going to TSU to meet anyone.” “I’m going to TSU to do my studies, pass all of my classes, and graduate,” Hara told Rozesita in a soft tone of voice “Okay then,” “that’s an agreement and I’m a hold you to that” Rozesita told Hara. “Oh girl,” Rozesita said to Hara. “Guess who I saw at the gas station in Coffeeville when I stopped to get some gas,” Rozesita asked Hara. “Who,” Hara asked Rozesita. “Your ex-boyfriend Bishhhoppp,” Rozesita told Hara. “Why you telling me, Hara asked Rozesita. “Nobody is thinking about his no good, cheating, ass,” Hara said to Rozesita. “Well apparently,” “he’s still thinking about youuuu.” “He was all in my face asking me questions about you” Rozesita said to Hara. “Questions like what,” Hara asked Rozesita. “Questions like who you in a relationship with now, what was your new phone number, and what college do you go to now” Rozesita told Hara. “Girlll, I hope you didn’t tell him what my new cell phone number is or what college I’m going too,” Hara told Rozesita. “Well, I didn’t give him your new number.” “He gave me his number to give you and I put it in my cell phone.” “Buuuut, I did tell him what university that you enrolled in,” Rozesita told Hara. Hara yelled, “WHAT! WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT?” “Chill out Hara,” “I was just bragging on you.” “That was a way of telling him that you’ve moved on with your life and not thinking about him.” “Don’t chew my head off about it, danggg;” “I’m sorry,” Rozesita said. “I didn’t want him to know anything about me,” Hara said. “Well at least,” “I didn’t give him your new cell phone number” Rozesita said. “That don’t mean nothing,” “he might try to call the college I’m attending and try to get in touch with me there” Hara said. “And all you would have to do is tell the college staff if someone other than your parents tries to get in touch with you to tell them you don’t accept phone calls from people you don’t know.” “Besides I don’t think they would give him any personal information like that about you.” “That would probably be against college policy, I think.” “If it’s not it should be anyway,” Rozesita said. “He had a girl with him, too” Rozesita told Hara. “You mean to tell me he had the nerve to ask you about me around a girl that he was with” Hara asked Rozesita. “Typical Bishop,” “I’m so glad I didn’t stay in a relationship with him and didn’t give up my virginity to him” “I’m sooo, glad I dumped his two timing, ass,” Hara said. “Actually Hara, he said after he lost you, he realized he needed to change his wild ways.” “He also said he’s about to make it into the pros,” Rozesita said. Before Rozesita could finish the rest of her sentence
  • 30. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 21 Hara interrupted her. “Enough about Bishop, he’s ancient history to me now” Hara told Rozesita in an angry voice. “The main guy that you say is ancient history just might be the dream guy of your future,” Rozesita said in a low tone of voice to herself. “What did you just say,” Hara asked Rozesita. “Oh oh, nothing,” “I I’m umm get off the phone and unpack,” Rozesita said. “I heard what you said.” “Bishop isn’t any dream man of mine” Hara said. “Okay, I’m a call you back, bye,” Rozesita said. Rozesita hung up the phone and so did Hara. She gave no thoughts to what Rozesita had just said about Bishop as she continued to drive. Five hours had passed since she had been driving, with five more hours ahead of her to drive. She stopped at a gas station with a restaurant built on to it to get some gas and a bite to eat. She had snacks, food, and water in one of her travel bags but she wanted something different to eat. She also wanted to sit and relax for a while in the restaurant while eating before driving on the road again. So, she paid for more gas and pumped it, then pulled the car over to the restaurant and parked. First, she went into the restroom of the restaurant to use the restroom and wash her hands. After that she ordered some food from the restaurant; she sat down at a table with her order to eat. She said nothing to no one while eating. She sat, ate, drank, and stared at the different people going in and out of the fast food restaurant. She saw a family come into the restaurant and started missing her own family. She started to regret enrolling at a university so far away from her love ones. But it was too late for regret, she had already been accepted to go to TSU, so she had to suck that regret up and attend. A couple of truck drivers who came into the restaurant noticed her, tried to socialized with her, and get her phone number. She would politely tell them she wasn’t interested in having phone conversations with them. She would also tell them she wasn’t interested in making new friends or getting in new relationships. Some of the truck drivers would give her a hateful look and walk away. Thirty minutes later after she ate and rested, she left the restaurant and began driving again. Five hours seemed like forever to be driving for her. Once she did arrive in San Marcos, Texas; it was 7:40pm. She rented a motel in San Marcos, Texas to sleep in because school started the next day and she still had to sign up to stay in a dorm room. So she paid for a motel room. When she got into the room she called her parents, and Rozesita to tell them she made it safely. After getting off of the phone with them, she took a bath and went to bed. The next day, she woke up at 8:00am and drove to the University to start school. She met her professors who would be
  • 31. 22 Jaytilya M. Watkins teaching her that semester. She also signed up to stay in a dorm and was told what dorm room she would be staying in. Later on after her classes at the end of the day she went to her dorm room. The dorm room included 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, small dining room, and a bathroom. The dorm rooms were in buildings. She would be sharing the dorm with two other students who also went to TSU. They both were white girls, one was named Jenny Holder. She was studying to be an RN nurse. She had blond hair and blue eyes. Heather Banks was another one of Hara’s roommates; she was studying to be a psychiatrist. She had blonde hair too but brown eyes. Both of the girls where beautiful, but their beauty couldn’t compare to Hara’s beauty. Hara introduced herself to them as soon as she got there and they introduced their selves to her. When, she went into her room which was at the end of the hallway to the right. She noticed she needed to buy a bed and a drawer to put her closes in. She asked one of her roommates where was the furniture store located in San Marcos. The roommate told her. She went to the furniture store the next day. She bought a bed, mattress, dresser, mirror, and mini refrigerator to put in her room. This was a unique furniture store that would have your furniture delivered to your house or room and help you set it up, if you paid them so she also paid the workers of furniture store extra money to deliver it to her dorm room. She had her dorm set up exactly how her room was set up back in Coffeeville. She also bought a television and sofa. Now that she had her room set up the way she wanted, she bought food to put in her refrigerator. Then she started to unpack her clothes, put them in the drawer of her dresser, and hung them in her closet. She did all of this after her classes were over at the end of the day. She loved going to her classes and learning about new things. Her experience so far was significant. She also learned to adapt to living with her roommates. She talked to her family on the phone every day after her college classes were over for that day and when she didn’t call them they called her. Every other weekend, Katheran, Allen, Allen Jr. Veta, Rozesita, and Todd would come visit her. They all would stay in nearby hotels and Hara would stay with them on Fridays and Saturdays. They would go out to eat, go shopping, and do other great activities. On Sunday mornings, they would leave in the RV they would come in together. Hara would be glad to see them come and was sad to see them go. She would shed tears as they drove away. Every weekday, Hara would follow the same routine; she would attend her classes, in between classes; she would be on campus at a table reading in her text books, doing
  • 32. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 23 her college work, and studying for her exams. She would go straight to her dorm room at the end of the day and studied without mingling with a soul. Sometimes she would go shopping for more food at the store. She really didn’t eat a whole lot so she mostly bought fruits to eat on and a little of junk food. She also would buy cleaning supplies for the dorm and helped do choirs around the dorm. The only time she really would come out of her room was to take a bath or to help clean up the dorm. The rest of the time she would either be talking on the phone with family or studying. Hara let nothing get in the way of her studies, not even the parties that would be going on in nearby dorms inside of the building. Heather would brag about her to Jenny by saying, “Instead of us partying all of the time, we need to be more like Hara.” Jenny became jealous of Hara, that’s when and where the jealous of Hara first started, with Jenny. Two months after following the same routine every day; Hara realized Rozesita had a point, when she said to her two months ago while she was driving to San Marcos, that it’s okay to have a little fun while attending college. Between going to her classes and going back to her dorm, she really didn’t have any type of excitement in her life. She had a couple of associates on the TSU campus but she didn’t hang with them, she hung to herself studying mostly. The only time she had fun was when her family came to visit her on some of the weekends but they slacked down on visiting her. Every other weekend turned to one weekend out of a month because they all had lives too and they were doing their own thing. But they still called her every day. Lots of guys on campus tried to get with Hara but she would turn them all down. Some of the guys would call her “Stuck-Up.” Some of the guys, would spread rumors on her saying she was a “Lesbian” because she had never been seen talking to a guy on campus but that wasn’t true at all. She talked on the phone with her brother, Allen Jr. Todd, and Cameron. She even started talking back on the phone with her ex-boyfriend Bishop. He called her a month after she started going to TSU. Through Cameron, Bishop had gotten her number but this was unknown to Hara because Bishop never told Hara. Bishop lied to her like one of her family members gave him the number. At first when he called, Hara would tell him to stop calling her and would hang the phone up in his face but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. One day, Bishop called something in her mind told her to just talk to him and she did. They started talking on the phone from then on. Every time they would talk to each other on the phone, he would always tell her how much he missed her and how he wanted to get back
  • 33. 24 Jaytilya M. Watkins into a relationship with her. She would always tell him the past is over with and the only thing she could offer him was friendship. He learned to accept hearing that even though he didn’t want to. And little did she know he was hearing her say that but he wasn’t listening. He was planning on doing everything he could to win her heart back. Failure to win her heart was not an option for him.
  • 34. 25 Chapter 8 Hara & Bishop Reunites One Friday, that Hara’s family wasn’t coming to visit her, Bishop showed up on campus to find Hara. He had roses and candy; he even had a big teddy bear to give her. He searched the campus yard until he found her. When he saw her and called her name, she looked up. She was surprised to see him there and shocked to see him with roses, candy, and a bear. “Bishop, what are you doing here” Hara asked. “My dad and I was traveling to Austin, Texas to see a sick relative; so I told him I was going to stop and see you” Bishop said. “Wow, I didn’t know you had relatives in Austin,” Hara said. “I bought this for you” Bishop said while handing her the roses, candy, and teddy bear. “Well, thank you Bishop,” Hara said. “You are so welcome, beautiful” Bishop said. Bishop sat down on the bench by Hara. “So how did you know where to find me” Hara asked. “You told me on the phone you like to sit on campus around this time to study while enjoying the outdoors so I guess you can say I remembered” Bishop said. “Ohhh,” Hara said. “So I see you’re still as beautiful as you were in high school” Bishop said. “Thank you and I see you’re still as muscular as you were in high school” Hara said. “Well, that’s what playing football, jogging, eating right, and lifting weights will do for you” Bishop said. They both laughed at his remark. “So why didn’t you bring your girlfriend on this trip to Austin” Hara asked. Bishop dropped his head, looking towards the ground with a sad look on his face. “Her and I broke up,” Bishop said. “Hmmm,” Hara said out loud. “Do you want to know why we broke up” Bishop asked Hara. “No, that’s not any of my concern” Hara said. Bishop
  • 35. 26 Jaytilya M. Watkins looked back up at her. Hara started thinking for a minute about the lonely two months she have had in her dorm room. Something just told her to go for it so she asked Bishop, “How would you like to go to a party with me one of the students in one of the dorm buildings is throwing tomorrow tonight” Hara asked Bishop. “That would be great,” Bishop said to Hara smiling. “Cool, but it’s not going to be until Saturday so you and your father would have time to go visit your relative in Austin, spend time with them tonight and return back tomorrow night at 7:00pm,” Hara said. “Oh, my father and I didn’t travel together in the same car. He’s already gone to Austin.” “I told him to go to Austin without me and I’d catch up” Bishop said. “So would it be alright with you if I drive to Austin to see my relative now and return tonight to take you out tonight and go to the party tomorrow night” Bishop asked. “Ahhhh, I don’t know about the going out tonight and eating because I have to study tonight” Hara said. Bishop looked at her with the expression of sadness as Hara started thinking about it. “Oh, what the hell, you only live once right?” “Okay I’ll go out to eat with you tonight” Hara said. Bishop’s sad expression turned to a happy expression. “After my classes are over, I’ll go and buy me something to wear for tonight and tomorrow night.” “I’ll go to my room, take a shower, put on an outfit, and be waiting on you to return tonight” Hara said. “How would you feel about spending time in a hotel room with me afterwards” Bishop asked. “Bishop, I don’t kn,” Hara said. Bishop interrupted Hara. “I promise you I won’t try anything with you.” “You’ll have a bed of your own and I’ll have a bed of my own.” “We’ll just play cards, dance, or whatever you would like to do.” “We’ll just have fun.” “We both deserve some type of fun in our lives being that we devote all of our time to college” Bishop told Hara. “Don’t you agree,” Bishop asked. “Yeaaa, I guess you’re right.” “But I want to make this clear.” “This isn’t a date.” “We’re going out to eat and to the party as friends only” Hara said to Bishop. “That’s cool,” “I’m just happy you’re agreeing to this” Bishop said. “Okay then, I’ll do it” Hara said. “I’ll pay for a hotel room nearby the dorm room buildings so we won’t have to travel so far to go to your friend’s dorm party” Bishop said. “Okay,” Hara said. They both stood up from the bench. “Well, I’m a go ahead and drive to Austin so I can come back and pick you up tonight” Bishop said. “Okay, I’ll be waiting in the dorm.” “Just call before you get to the dorm buildings; so I can tell you which building my dorm room is located in” Hara said. “Exactly which building is your dorm room in and what floor is it on” Bishop asked. “It’s in the third building to the left and
  • 36. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 27 on the 5th floor of the building.” “The number on the door will be 550,” Hara said. “Okay, I’ll be there” Bishop said. “Okay I’ll be waiting” Hara said. Hara picked up her book bag and book she was studying in. She walked away from Bishop and started walking towards one of the university buildings to go into it. Bishop had a smile on his face from ear to ear. He jumped up and down in excitement saying, “Yes, Yes, Yes,” as if he just won a football championship or the lottery. Other college students that were sitting at nearby tables outside looked at him like he was crazy. Some of them laughed at him. But Bishop didn’t care because he was going to be spending time with the woman of his dreams that night and Saturday night. He walked away from TSU’s campus and got into his car in the parking lot feeling like a million bucks. Hara was about to walk up to the door to go into one of the university buildings when she and another guy bumped into each other. She dropped her book bag, her book, and notebook sheets of paper with notes on them that were inside of her book. The gentlemen bend down to help her pick the papers and the book up along with her book bag. “I’m so sorry for bumping into you.” “I can be so clumsy sometimes” Hara said to gentlemen. “It’s okay, you don’t have to apologize it was I who bumped into you, not watching where I was going.” “I’m the one who should apologize, I’m sorry” the gentlemen said as he was helping her pick her things up. They both stood up from bending after he helped her get all of her stuff up off the ground. Hara looked into the guy’s eyes and he looked back. When the guy looked at Hara, he thought he saw an angle. They stared at each other for two seconds; then he introduced himself. “My name is Stephen Golden” Stephen said to Hara. “My name is Hara Weatherson, nice to meet you” Hara said to Stephen. As Hara tried to shake Stephen’s hand, he took her hand bent down, kissed her hand and said, “It’s a pleasure meeting you.” He offered to carry her books for her but she refused by saying, “No thank you, I can take them to class.” He opened the door for her to walk into the building. She said, “Thank you, Stephen,” then walked into the building. As Hara was walking in the hallway, Stephen walked up beside her. “So, what are you majoring in,” Stephen asked. “Criminal Justice,” Hara replied. “No way, I’m majoring in that too.” “I’m planning on becoming a state prosecutor” Stephen said. How about you” Stephen asked Hara. “I’m planning on being a criminal defense attorney” Hara said. “So, what class are you going to” Stephen asked. “I’m going to Mrs. Valen’s class” Hara said. “Oh so, you’re in that mean women’s class who wears a ponytail”
  • 37. 28 Jaytilya M. Watkins Stephen said. “Why does everybody say that,” Hara asked. “She’s not mean and who cares about her wearing her hair in a ponytail” Hara said smiling. “That hairstyle makes her look like an old, mean, woman who needs to get” “Boned,” Stephen said. Hara laughed uncontrollably. “Well it was nice meeting you, see you later” Stephen said. “Byee,” Hara said to Stephen. Classes ended at 4:00pm for Hara. She went to a clothing store and bought two outfits. She bought the outfits and left the store. Then drove her car to the dorm and went inside of the dorm. Heather and Jenny were sitting in the living room, when Hara came in. When Heather asked her where the roses, candy, and bear came from. She told her it was from her ex- boyfriend that she was in a relationship with in high school. She mentioned that he went to Auburn University. She told her they were going out that night and to the dorm room party the next night. Heather cheered for her but Jenny said nothing. She just continued looking at the television. Hara walked into her dorm room to get a long T-shirt, bra, and panties to put on for after she took a bath. Heather looked at Jenny with an angry look. “What,” Jenny said. “Why you didn’t congratulate Hara for going on a date” Heather asked Jenny. “Why the hell should I care whether that nerdy loser goes on a date or not” Jenny asked Heather. “She’s no friend of mine.” “I don’t even like her.” “Besides she didn’t say it was a date anyway.” “She said they are just going out” Jenny said to Heather. “I swear sometimes, I don’t know why I hang with you,” Heather said to Jenny. “Because I know how to party, unlike that loser back there; who don’t” Jenny said to Heather. “Well, you do know how to party.” “I’ll give you that one” Heather said to Jenny. “But what do you have against Hara” Heather asked Jenny.” “She’s smart and she’s pretty,” Heather said to Jenny. “She thinks she’s better than everyone else.” “She’s not prettier than me and she’s a total loser.” “I bet the guy that’s going to come here to pick her up is going to be a loser too, just like her” Jenny told Heather. “Whatever Jenny,” Heather said. Heather walked into her dorm room leaving Jenny in the living room watching the television. Hara took a shower and went into her dorm room. After she took a shower, put on her T-shirt, bra, and panties, she grabbed a bite to eat from her refrigerator. Then she lay on her bed and took a nap. She was awakened by the ring of her cell phone. She answered the phone, it was Bishop. “Hey Hara I’m on my way back from Austin, once I get there I’m going to rent a room from a hotel nearest to the dorm buildings.” “Then I’m a come pick you up,” Bishop said. “Are you cool with that” Bishop asked. “Yeaaa, I’m cool with thaaat,” Hara responded softly. “Are
  • 38. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 29 you okay, is something wrong,” Bishop asked. “Oh no, I was asleep when you called, I’m fine.” “I just got to wake up,” Hara said. “Have you thought about where you want to eat at” Bishop asked Hara. “It really doesn’t matter.” “Where ever you choose will be fine” Hara said to Bishop. “I think I saw a fancy restaurant not too far from TSU.” “I’m a check out that restaurant before I come pick you up,” Bishop said to Hara. “Bishop, you don’t have to spend money on expensive restaurants to satisfy me” Hara said. “I know I don’t but I want to because you’re special to me and you deserve to be treated like a queen” Bishop said. Hara smiled and said “Okay Bishop, I’ll be waiting when you get here.” “Okay I’ll see you later, bye” Bishop said. “Bye,” Hara said. They both hang up the phone. Hara got up out of the bed. She went to her closet and pulled her new outfits she bought at the clothing store. She also pulled out two pairs of shoes she bought along with those outfits. She looked in her jewelry box and pulled out two sets of earrings, necklets, and bracelets. Her outfit she was planning to wear to the restaurant was a short, pink, glittery, dress outfit. It had a lace string on it that would wrap around her neck. The high heel shoes were also pink with glitter on them. She had pink jewelry to go along with it too. To the party, she was planning on wearing a red shirt with a v in it showing the top of her boobs, red jeans with red and white Nike sneakers. All of her jewelry for that outfit would be red. And of course she was going to wear her make-up and wear eyeliner. She also had pink lip gloss to wear with her pink outfit and red lip stick to wear with her red outfit. Hara’s hair was already curly due to her taking a shower and wetting it. Her hair naturally curled when it got wet. So, she was going to wear it like that to the restaurant that night. But she was planning on straight ironing it for the party tomorrow before she went. Even though, she told Bishop the two events they were attending together wasn’t a date. She really felt like it was a date because she hadn’t been on any date with a guy since high school or since being at TSU. She put on her makeup first while looking in the mirror in her room. She took off her T-shirt and boxers. She put on some Victoria Secret lotion and body spray. Then she put on her pink, dress outfit; along with her pink jewelry and shoes. After putting everything on, she looked at herself in the mirror. She was very confident about how she looked. Pretty wasn’t the word to describe how Hara looked. Gorgeous, elegant, or ravishing are better words that would describe how she looked that night. What really set her good looks off were her seductive, sky blue, eyes. In looks, her face was a mixture between Megan Fox (The woman
  • 39. 30 Jaytilya M. Watkins who starred in the first Transformers) and Selena Gomez (Justin Beiber’s girlfriend). Whenever Hara would dress up; she really knew how to turn up her charm and wherever she went to, she would catch every guy’s attention. She looked like those ladies who starred in Soap Operas. She was 5 foot and 5 inches tall and 120 pounds. She had nicely shaped legs and thighs, small breast, with small hips. She also had a natural tan, like her father. She had a little of Indian in her blood that came from her father’s family background. Bishop showed up at 7:00 pm on the dot. He found the building Hara was in and went inside to the dorm room door that had 550 on it. He got nervous on the inside as he knocked on the door. Heather answered the door and asked him what his name was. He told her his name and who he came to see. She was happy to see him and asked him to come in so she could prove Jenny’s bet wrong. “HARAAAA,” “YOUR DATE IS HERE,” Heather yelled. Jenny who was sitting on the couch, took one look at Bishop and stared in amazement as her bottom lip and jaw dropped to the floor. “OKAY, I’LL BE RIGHT THERE,” Hara yelled. Heather sat down by Jenny on the couch. Bishop also had a seat on a couch across from them. Jenny got over being amazed and began to get interested in what Bishop had to say. “So, you’re really Hara’s date or did she pay you to hang with her” Jenny asked. “Well, really she said it’s not a date and we’re just hanging out” Bishop said. “Ohhh, that’s good to know” Jenny said to Bishop. “I heard you two used to be high school sweet hearts” Heather said to Bishop. “Yes, we were,” Bishop said to Heather. “So, are you two planning on getting back together” Heather asked Bishop. “Well, I don’t know you would have to ask her that” Bishop said to Heather. “Well just in case she doesn’t get back with you my number is (555) 268-9332 and even if she does, you can still give me a call anytime” Jenny said to Bishop in a low tone of voice while smiling. “JENNNNY” Heather said to Jenny. “I’m so sorry about how my roommate is acting.” “She hits on every guy on campus” Heather told Bishop. “No, I don’t hit on every guy on campus.” “I only hit on the handsome guys on campus.” “If he’s ugly I don’t say anything to him” Jenny said to Heather. Jenny and Heather both laugh. Bishop joined them with a brief laugh. Hara walked out of her room, walked through the hallway while hearing Bishop laughing and talking to her roommates. He looked in the hallway and stood up once he saw her. He looked in amazement at Hara as she walked into the living room. Heather stood up too, to greet Hara but Jenny remained seated. “Wow, Hara you look beautiful.” “I love that outfit” Heather said to Hara.
  • 40. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 31 “Thank you, Heather,” Hara said. “Hello, Bishop.” “Are you ready to go,” Hara asked Bishop. “Of course, come on let’s go have some fun, beautiful” Bishop told Hara. Bishop picked her small travel bag up she had her other outfit and other personal items in. Personal items like lotion, perfume, and straightening irons. He shook both Heather and Jenny’s hand while saying, “It was very nice to meet you ladies.” Heather said, “It was very nice meeting you too.” Jenny said, “It was a pleasure meeting you too.” Heather said, “I hope you two have a great time.” Hara was checking Bishop out from head to toe. Bishop had on a white suit with a red tie and white dress shoes for men on his feet. His cologne smelled so good and so loud that Hara smelled it as soon as she came out of her dorm room door. His hair was a curly blonde combed back. It was very easy for Hara once again to see why all of the girls in high school use to throw their selves at the handsome fox. As they started walking towards the door to walk out, Bishop is looking at her and told her, “You look very beautiful Hara.” Hara said, “Thank you and you look very handsome.” “I love how your cologne smells.” Hara told Bishop. “What’s the name of it,” Hara asked Bishop. “Jean Paul” Bishop said as he opened the door for Hara to walk out of. Hara said, “Well it sure does smell good,” as she walked out of the door. Bishop walked behind her and closed the door. After Hara and Bishop left, Heather and Jenny giggled at each other. “Oh my goodness he is so gorgeous,” Jenny said. “Oh I thought you said he was going to be a loser” Heather said to Jenny. “Well, I was wrong but she’s still a loser.” “Why he still wants her is a mystery.” “He probably just felt sorry for her the reason why he’s taking her out.” “I hope they don’t get back together so I can get with him.” “I still might take him away from her if she does get back with him” Jenny said. “You’re such a hater Jenny,” Heather told Jenny. “A hater of who” Jenny asked Heather. “Hara isn’t anybody special to me” Jenny told Heather. “As far as you saying you getting with him, I might have a better chance to get with him than you because he seemed like he was feeling me.” “Plus I was the one who answered the door,” Heather told Jenny. They both begin to get into an argument over Bishop. As Bishop and Hara were walking down the steps; Bishop told Hara, “I have something very special for us to ride in.” “Bishop I drive a BMW,” “my most favorite car I’ve ever had” Hara said. “What ride you could possibly have that’s better than my BMW, Bishop” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop said, “You’ll see.” He told Hara to close her eyes and put his hand over her eyes. He kept his hands over her eyes until they got out of the building. After
  • 41. 32 Jaytilya M. Watkins they got out of the building, he released his hands from her eyes and she opened her eyes. She saw a white, Huma lima zine in the front parking lot of the building they came out of. Hara had a surprised look on her face. “Oh my Godddd,” “Bishop wh, wh,” “where did you buy this from,” “how much did this cost,” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop said, “I didn’t buy it.” “I rented it for today and tomorrow for us.” “Why,” Hara asked Bishop. “Because I want the time we spent together to be special for you and memorable to you,” Bishop said. “You didn’t have to do this,” Hara said. “No, I didn’t but I wanted to do this” Bishop said as they walked towards the Lima zine. A driver got out of the Lima zine, walked around the Lima zine to where Hara and Bishop were going to be getting in at, and opened the door. “Wow, you even have a driver to drive us,” Hara said in amazement as they both get into the Lima zine. Bishop let Hara get into the Lima zine first then he got in last. Once the driver closed the door, he walked back around to the driver’s side and got in. He began driving the Lima zine. “How much did it cost you to rent this Lima zine” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop looked at her with a smile on his face. “Does it really matter how much it cost” Bishop asked Hara. “Well, no, I was just curious” Hara said. “Let’s just say it was very expensive” Bishop said. “I know that’s why I told you, you didn’t have to do this” Hara told Bishop. Bishop looked at Hara and said, “When it comes to you; I will spend my last dollar in my wallet, just to be near you for one day.” As they both stared at each other in the darkness, they both slowly started leaning closer to each other feeling the desire to kiss each other. But just before they were about to kiss, Hara looked away and started looking out of the window. “So, where are we eating at,” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop looked out the window. “That’s the next surprise I have for you” Bishop told Hara. “Oh my God, Bishop.” “You and your surprises” Hara said to Bishop. “Can you just give me one clue, please” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop folded his arms, looked at her with a serious look on his face and said, “Nope.” “Awwww, your mean,” Hara said with a frown. “Is it at the Italian Garden’s restaurant,” Hara asked. “They have great food.” “My family loves to eat there when they come to visit me” Hara told Bishop. “You’re trying to pick me and it’s not working, nope,” Bishop said. “Is it Texas Roadhouse” Hara asked Bishop. “Nope, just sit back and be surprised because I’m not telling you” Bishop told Hara. The drive to the destination only took two minutes as the Lima zine drove to the restaurant. Bishop told Hara to close her eyes and held his hand on her eyes when they got out so he could walk her to the restaurant.
  • 42. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 33 “I already know what restaurant we’re going to” Hara told Bishop. “No you don’t.” “You just think you do, close your eyes pleaseee” Bishop said to Hara. Hara closed her eyes as Bishop got out of the Lima zine and pulled her out of the Lima zine with his strong muscular arms. He closed the door when she got out and guided her towards the restaurant. When they get up to the restaurant door, he opened it and told her to walk in and open her eyes. She walked in, Bishop walked in behind her and she opened her eyes. She smiled and said to Bishop, “Oh my Godd Bishop” Hara said. “How did you know I’ve wanted to eat here” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop told her, “Well, I heard you mention something about wanting to eat here, when you were talking on the phone with me last week.” “Plus even if you would have never said anything about eating here.” “I still would’ve taken you here anyway because it’s one of the best restaurants in San Marcos.” “You’re so right, lots of students at TSU brags on this restaurant.” “They brag about how beautiful the art decorations are and how good their southwestern-style tuna is” Hara told Bishop. A waitress walked up, greeted them, and then escorts them to a table in the corner of the restaurant. Bishop and Hara sit a across from each other. The waiter asked them what they would like to drink. Hara said she wanted a sweet tea and Bishop said he would like the same. They both said, “Thank you.” The waitress said, “You’re welcome, I’ll be back,” and gave them both a menu booklet.” Hara looked at Bishop and said, “Thank you, for bringing me out to eat here.” “You’re welcome, actually I should be thanking you for allow me to bring you out to eat, so thank you” Bishop told Hara. They both laughed as they looked on the menus. Two minutes later, the waitress came back with the glass of sweet teas. She sat them on the table, and took her small order tablet out with her pin. “So, are you ready to order or do you need more time” the waitress said to them. Hara said, “I’m ready to order now.” Hara looked at her menu and said, “I’m going to have the southwestern-style tuna with the wild rice and vegetables.” As the waitress was writing what she wanted down in her tablet, Bishop said, “And I’m going to have the islander with Tilapia.” The waitress wrote all of this down. After she was done writing the orders down she said, “Okay, I’ll be back with your orders shortly, let me know if you two need anything else.” Okay, we will,” Bishop told her. The waitress walked away. Bishop stared at Hara as she looked around the restaurant. She saw a couple of her classmates as she looked around the restaurant. “I see a lot of my classmates are eating here tonight too” Hara said as she looked back at Bishop. She noticed Bishop was

Bishop asked Hara, “Well if it’s in the past, why won’t you give me another chance and get back with me?” “Bishop,” Hara said to Bishop. “Do you know that you’re all I’ve been thinking about since you left me in the high school parking lot?” “What you said to me still haunts me to this day.” “Bissshoppp, I thought we weren’t going to talk about this again” Hara said to Bishop. “Every relationship I’ve been in since you left me, never worked out right because I would always compare them to you; from your personality to how beautiful you are.” “The way you talk.” “I even, I even compare them by the way they walk” Bishop told Hara. Hara interrupted Bishop one more time in a loud tone of voice. “BISHOP” Hara yelled. She looked around and noticed people at other tables in their area got quiet and looked at her and Bishop for a brief moment, then started back talking and eating. Bishop stopped talking. “Let’s just live in the moment and have a good time with the time we have left together.” “Forget about the past and focus on the future” Hara told Bishop. “Then after this experience is over, I can continue studying at TSU and you can continue studying and playing football at Auburn University, okay” Hara told Bishop. “Okay Hara but I need you to know,” Bishop said to Hara. Before he could say anything else the waitress came back with their orders. “Here is your Islander with Tilapia sir and here’s your southwestern-style seared tuna ma’am,” said the waitress. Hara and Bishop both thanked her for bringing their orders. The waiter told them, “You’re Welcome” and walked away. Bishop continued talking, “I need you to know I never stopped loving you and never will stop loving you.” “Okay Bishop, I’m aware of how you feel.” “Now let’s eat and enjoy our dinner” Hara told Bishop. Hara and Bishop began to eat. “Mmmmm, wow, this tuna is lovely.” “Now I see what my fellow classmates are talking about” Hara said. “Here eat a piece,” Hara told Bishop. Hara lets him eat a piece of tuna from her fork. Bishop commented on how it tasted to him. “Mmmmm it’s delicious; but not better than my tilapia, here try mine,” Bishop told Hara. Hara sampled a piece of his tilapia from his fork. “Hmmmm, not bad but it’s not better than my tuna, sorry Bishop” Hara

They both began laughing and talking about old memories about the restaurants they ate at back in Coffeeville and compared them to the restaurant they were at as they ate their meals. They both agreed, out of all of the restaurants they ever ate at back at home that The Root Cellar (the restaurant they were eating at) was the best restaurant out of all of the restaurants they both had ever eaten at. After a brilliant meal and brilliant conversations about the good old times they had in high school; their bellies were full and they were both ready to leave. The waitress brought their bill and put it on their table. Hara and Bishop both argued over whose paying for the meals. Hara wanted to pay for her own bill but Bishop wanted to pay for both his meal and her meal. Bishop told Hara, “I’m the one who asked you to hang out with me tonight so therefore, I’m paying for the meals” Bishop told Hara. Hara replies, “You rented the lima zine and the motel so I should pay for my own meal.” “Actually I should be offering to pay for both meals but I know you wouldn’t let me.” “Hell Naw, you’re not paying for my meal or yours either” Bishop told Hara. “I’m a man, a real man, a real man is supposed to pay for his meal and the lady’s meal that he takes out to eat,” Bishop told Hara. “Now if you want to pay for something, you can leave a tip for the waitress but I’m paying for the meals Missy and that’s final” Bishop told Hara. “Well excuse, me for trying to be thoughtful Mr. 1960’s man.” “I didn’t know you felt so strongly about an independent college woman paying for her own meal” Hara said to Bishop. Hara started laughing as Bishop folded his arm, turned his head to the right and tilted it up in the air without smiling saying, “Well…I do.” Bishop noticed the waitress walking by their table and called her to get her attention, she came to the table. “I would like to pay for these meals, please,” Bishop told the waitress. He handed her the credit card along with the bill. “Okay, I’ll be right back with your receipt and card sir, and just in case I forget to say this when I come back,” “thank you and you for eating at The Root Cellar” the waiter said. The waiter walked away. Hara said, “Well since you wouldn’t let me pay for our meals, I’m a put down a $20.00 tip for the waitress because she did a great job.” Bishop said, “Yea that will be good.” “She did do a great job.” “She deserves a $20.00 tip.” The waitress brought Bishop’s receipt and card back to him. Then she walked away to greet other people that were walking in. Bishop and Hara walked out of the restaurant. They got back into the Lima zine. “So what motel are we going to” Hara asked Bishop. “You mean what hotel we are going to,” Bishop said to Hara.
  • 45. 36 Jaytilya M. Watkins Hara looked at Bishop and he looked back at her. They looked at each other for 5 seconds. “What are you up to Mr. Summers,” Hara asked Bishop. “Do you think you’re going to get lucky enough to get into my vagina tonight” Hara asked Bishop. “No, that’s not what I’m after.” “I want your heart not what’s between your legs.” “Getting your vagina can come later on once I’ve pursued your heart.” “I’ve had my share of vaginas throughout high school and even the first part of my college year” Bishop told Hara. “And what will you do if I never give you my heart and we never get back together” Hara asked Bishop. Bishop dropped his head and looked down towards his lap while twirling his index finger around on his lap; then looked back up at Hara and said, “I don’t want to look at it like that because I’m very determined when it comes down to something or someone I really want.” “But if it does come down to that and I never get back with you.” “I would have no other choice but to move on and get with another woman.” “But I would make sure she’s the total opposite of you so I could never grow to love her.” “She would never have my heart because you would still have my heart even though you broke it.” “I would never love another woman and I would let her know this before and after we would get into a relationship.” “And if she couldn’t accept that then I would break up with her and get with the next woman letting her know the same thing.” “Well, what if I changed my mind one day in the future, called you and told you I changed my mind and I want to get back into a relationship with you; but you were already in a relationship with another woman at this time” Hara asked Bishop. “I would tell her it’s over and she needs to move on with her life” Bishop said in a firm tone of voice. Hara was very surprised at Bishop’s response to her question. “Wow, you really would be that cold hearted towards her” Hara asked Bishop. “It’s not being cold hearted towards her if she already knows who my heart still belonged too.” “She would already know before and after I get into a relationship with her that it would never be any love between me and her” Bishop told Hara. Hara said, “You may not be in love with her but she probably may have fallen in love with you.” “Soooo, didn’t nobody put a gun to her head and make her fall in love with me.” “She would’ve felt that way on her own, I would’ve already told her that I could never love her.” “An alarm bigger than New York City, should’ve gone off in her head telling her to run the other way.” “But if she’s foolish enough to ignore that alarm thinking she’s going to change how I feel in my heart.” “Then she would’ve set her own self up to get hurt” Bishop told Hara. “You can’t tell someone not to love

Hara laughed at him. “You can’t possibly be serious” Hara said to Bishop. Bishop gave her a serious look. “Yes I am serious,” Bishop told Hara. “What about if she was pregnant by you or she already had a baby by you?” “Would it be that easy for you to leave her for me then” Hara asked Bishop. “If she was pregnant by me I would still check on her and come see her just to make sure she’s okay because she would be carrying my baby.” “If she already had our baby; I would still take care of my baby and spend time with him or her.” “I would even be with her in the delivery room when she’s having our baby but I would still leave her to be with you” Bishop said. “I don’t believe you would be that cold hearted towards the mother of your child.” “I don’t think it would be that easy for you to leave her being that you and she had a baby together.” “Once two people have a baby together, they have a bond between each other that no other woman or man could break” Hara told Bishop. Bishop said, “We could still have a bond together and not be together.” “I’d even have a little love for her for having my our child but that doesn’t mean I’m obligated to stay with her or marry her because we have a child together when I know I could never love her in the same way I love you.” “I can still be a good father to my child and don’t have to be with the mother of my child.” “That’s where a lot of guys mess up at.” “They get with a woman who they don’t love but she loves him even though she knows that he don’t feel the same way about her.” “She tries to make him love her but everything she does doesn’t work.” “So, she gets ideas from her friends of ways she can trap him.” “She stops taking her birth control pills but she lies to him like she’s still on the pills.” “The man gets comfortable and starts having sex with her without protection.” “Pretty soon, she becomes pregnant, now she thinks he’ll love her because she has something that’s apart of him.” “He finds out she’s pregnant and that’s how the trap begins.” “He feels like he has to marry her because it’s the right thing to do.” “Because he feels like he has obligations to her.” “I may be old fashion to a certain extent but I’m not all the way old fashion.” “I firmly believe that not under any circumstance a person should marry someone they don’t really love.” “Especially, if the person still loves someone else.” “The reason why you shouldn’t is because you’ll always compare that man or woman you married with that person you still love and no matter how you compare that person you married to that person you really love.” “He or she will never measure up equally with that person you really love.”
  • 47. 38 Jaytilya M. Watkins “That person you loved and didn’t marry will always measure up on a higher level than that person you settled for and married” Bishop told Hara. Hara was sitting back in the seat quietly looking into Bishop’s face and eyes as he explained to her his beliefs. “So, Hara, now that you have heard my beliefs” Bishop told Hara. “Tell me am I wrong for having my own beliefs about love, marriage, and so forth or are those females who try to make men love them by trying to trap them with babies are wrong” Bishop asked Hara. Hara responds, “I think you all are wrong.” “They are wrong for purposely trying to get pregnant by those guys without them knowing.” “If a man can’t love you for you; then you shouldn’t try to make him love you.” “Love should never be forced from another person.” “If love is what those women are seeking.” “They should start by loving their selves first and move on to someone that will love them.” “I feel like you are wrong for giving up on love just because one person doesn’t love you.” “There are several women out there that are prettier than I, have a better personality than I, and will love you deeper than I ever would.” “Take my mom and stepdad for an example; after my dad died.” “She still loved my dad while dating my stepdad.” “They got married while she still had love for my dad and my stepdad knew that but he was still willing to love her and be with her.” “It took some time for her to get over my dad and she still has love for my dad to this day.” “But years after she married my stepdad and had my brother by him, she’s in love my stepdad now.” “I’m telling you this as a friend, if we never become more than just friend, don’t give up on love Bishop.” “Don’t live the rest of your life treating women as doormats” Hara told Bishop. “Can you do this for me” Hara asked Bishop. “No, Hara, I don’t think I ever could,” Bishop told Hara. “Well, what if I told you I wouldn’t give up on love if you and I never get back together.” “I would still be looking for my dream man” Hara told Bishop. Bishop looked out of the window of the Lima zine as it stopped and turned into the hotel entrance. Bishop looked back at Hara and said “That would only be because you’ve failed to realize that I’m your dream man.” “It may take you a long time to realize it but eventually you will” Bishop told Hara. By this time the Lima zine had pulled up to the front entrance of the hotel. Bishop opened the door with Hara’s travel bag in his hand. Hara said nothing as she was getting out behind him. Once she got out she said, “Oh my God, I haven’t spent the night at a Hampton’s Hotel since forever.” She closed the Lima zine door and it drives away. They started walking towards the front entrance door of the hotel. Hara continues talking, “The last time
  • 48. Devotion, Obsession, & Deception 39 I spent the night at a Hampton’s hotel was when I was in the 9th grade and my mom took the whole family on a summer trip.” “Rozesita and I took lots of pictures on that trip.” “Where did y’all go that summer” Bishop asked Hara. “I think it was SIX FLAGS OVER GEORGIA,” Hara told Bishop. Bishop laughed; “You went to SIX FLAGS in the 9th grade that’s a little too old to go to SIX FLAGS.” “My parents took me to SIX FLAGS when I was 7 years old,” Bishop told Hara while laughing. “I WASN’T TOO OLD” Hara said to Bishop in a snappy voice. “Yes, you wazzzz,” Bishop said while smiling. Bishop and Hara were up to the double doors of the front entrance of the hotel and he opened one of the doors for Hara to walk in first. Hara said in response while going in, “And you brag about going to SIX FLAGS at 7 years old but I went to DISNEY WORLD when I was 6 years old so NANA, NAN, NAN, NAN, NANNNN” Hara said to Bishop. Bishop started laughing again and said, “Well at least I went to both SIX FLAGS and DISNEY WORLD before entering the 9th grade.” “Now NANA, NAN, NAN, NAN, that.” “Oh you go to hell Bishop,” Hara said smiling. The receptionist at the front desk asked, “May I help you?” “Huh, oh yes, we have reservations here,” Bishop said to the receptionist. He took the card key out of his pocket and held it up. “We already bought the room.” “We’re just arriving to go to it.” Bishop told the receptionist. “Do you know where it is,” the receptionist asked Bishop. “Yea, I know,” Bishop said to the receptionist as he began to walk into the lobby with Hara following him. “So what’s the room number,” Hara asked Bishop. “It’s 237 and it’s on the 3rd floor of the hotel,” Bishop told Hara. “What else do you have planned for us Mr. Summers,” Hara asked Bishop as they walked through the lobby. “Whatever you would like for us to do” Bishop told Hara. They both get on the elevator and Bishop pressed the button for the 3rd floor. “Well I figure since we’re going to a party tomorrow we could practice dancing to fast and slow music” Hara told Bishop. “If that’s okay with you,” Hara asked Bishop. “That’s cool with me, even though, I don’t need any practice.” “I’ve been to several college parties,” Bishop said to Hara. “Anything else you would like to do,” Bishop asked Hara. “Let’s just see what tonight brings,” Hara said to Bishop. The elevator stopped at the 3rd floor. They walked out of the elevator. Bishop and Hara finally got to room 237. He took out the key and unlocked the door. He opened the door and let Hara walk in first, then he walked in behind her and closed the door. Hara looked around the room saying, “Wow, this room is bigger than three dorm rooms put together, this must be a
