2. IOS 1 (IPHONE OS 1)
The brainchild of Steve Jobs introduced the idea that an iPod, camera, phone and internet device
could be compacted inside a device that fits in your pocket. At that time, iPhone was the actual
star and other than the technological geeks, no one was really interested in any information about
the operating system which made those phones work flawlessly.
iPhone OS 1, as it was named, was so special among the customers as it was designed for multi-
touch operation and a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen, which made it quick and responsive than any
other present in the market then. While comparing it with the consecutive versions of iOS, this
version lacked huge including support for native, third-party apps. But at the time of its launch,
the phone and iOS 1 created a massive buzz among the elites and technologically inclined lot.

3. IOS 2 (IPHONE OS 2)
iPhone OS 2 released a year after, on July 2008
created a major breakthrough by adding App store,
which allowed the support of native, third- party
apps. More than 500 third-party apps were added
on App store during its launch, along with built-in
3G and GPS technology. This gave smartphone
market the capacity to think limitless, which was
visible from Google's move just after a month of
IOS 2 launch- android released Android
Market, an older version of Play Store.

4. IOS 3 (IPHONE OS 3)
On June 2009, the next upgrade - iPhone OS 3-was not about any dramatic inventions or
transformations, but they focused on fine-tuning the already developed programs. Jobs elevated
the whole iPhone using to the next level by adding push notifications for third-party apps,
parental controls, tap to focus in the camera, in-app purchases and subscription models,
universal search with spotlight, and cut, copy, paste for the touchscreen age. Next January,
iPad was launched with an updated version of IOS 3 tailor-made just for the new model.
iTunes was also upgraded by adding options to buy movies, TV shows and books from iPhone
or iPod touch.You'll be able to use MMS on your iPhone 3G (yes, 1st gen iPhones will not get
the fortune of using MMS due to the use of a different cell radio). The new Messages
application will be taking the place of the SMS app and will allow you to send voice memos
and pictures to your friends.
Allows iPhone apps the ability to find other iPhone users over WiFi or Bluetooth. This can be
useful for anything from gaming to sharing data.

5. IOS 4 (IPHONE OS 4)
Multitasking was the word of Apple in June 2010, when they
introduced iOS 4 enabling the user to switch between the
apps in a flash with a double press on the home button. The
feature loaded update had the name iOS given to it, leaving
behind the word "phone" from the name of the operating
system indicating its compatibility with iPhones, iPods and
iPads. Face Time, multitasking, iBooks, organizing apps into
folders, Personal Hotspot, AirPlay and AirPrint, some of the
current popular OS apps were introduced then.

6. IOS 5 (IPHONE OS 5)
With the launch of iOS 5 in 2011, Apple was beginning an era of virtual assistants. Yes, Siri was
added to iPhone in this version and the whole world went crazy behind this possibility of having a
virtual assistant inside your phone, that will actually obey your tasks and even tell you jokes.
Apple was also getting ready to create new wave enemies in future like Whatsapp, by introducing
iMessage and iCloud.
"iOS 5 has some great new features, such as Notification Center, iMessage and Newsstand and we
can't wait to see what our developers do with its 1,500 new APIs," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.
"Perhaps iOS 5's paramount feature is that it's built to seamlessly work with iCloud in the Post
PC revolution that Apple is leading."
Additional new features in iOS 5 include:-
- Mail enhancements which include the ability to compose messages using draggable addresses, and
a new formatting bar with bold, italics, underline and indention controls;
- AirPlay® Mirroring to wirelessly display everything you do on your iPad 2 right on your HDTV
through Apple TV®; and a system-wide split keyboard to make it even easier to type on your iPad.

7. IOS 6 (IPHONE OS 6)
iOS 6, launched in 2012 witnessed a major fail- the introduction of Apple maps as a counter-
attack on popular google maps.It is marked as a mediocre step from the stellar Apple.Inc, as it
didn't make any noise even among Apple's most loyal customers or even inside Apple family.
They also removed Youtube from the pre-installed set of apps. Some other added features include
a tighter integration with Facebook, a new Passbook app and the iCloud allowing shared photo
streams.
Unlike past iOS versions, two apps that were removed as part of iOS 6 were Google Maps and
YouTube. These apps can be downloaded for free in the App Store.
The all-new Maps application uses a different engine. A completely brand new redesigned Maps
app was released made by Apple Inc., with help from TomTom, Google Maps was removed.
Siri - Now understands more languages, works in more countries, can respond to sports scores,
movies, etc. Siri is also compatible with the new iPad and 5th gen iPod Touch.
Facebook - Fully integrated into iOS, now you can do most features like with Twitter.

8. IOS 7 (IPHONE OS 7)
The world shouted "flat is beautiful" as the new iPhone was released with an updated iOS 7. The
features included Contol Centre which meant quick settings, iTunes radio service, multitasking for
all the apps, updated versions of Safari and Siri, and finally Airdrop was introduced which enabled
easy connectivity and file transfer to other iPhones. iOS 7 was designed to be compatible with all
existing iOS 6 apps, and user testing has found this to generally be true. If you rely on a specific
"mission critical" app, it would still be prudent to make sure that that app runs before upgrading.
As part of its announcement of launch weekend sales of nine million units combined for the
iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, Apple also revealed that there were over 200 million devices running
iOS 7 less than five days after the launch of the new operating system, making it the fastest
software upgrade in history.Beyond the aesthetic redesign, iOS 7 also contains numerous tweaks
and features that streamline user configuration. Multitasking has been vastly overhauled for iOS 7,
offering a new cards look for apps that allows for easier quitting by swiping up out of a preview
screen, while also intelligently scheduling updates for apps that pull data.

9. IOS 8 (IPHONE OS 8)
Again, in September 2014 Apple was in the mode of fine-tuning the existing features. Firstly,
they brought together their desktops and mobile phones closer by providing a continuity concept
enabling the user to send, edit and receive messages or answer phone calls on both phones and
Mac. They opened up the platform wider by allowing third-party widgets and keyboards for users
to customize their iPhone and introducing a successful and secured payment option- Apple pay.
Also, iOS 8 engraved a new concept of addiction- a health tracking app named health
kit.Important new iOS 8 features include:
Handoff to swap data and tasks between iOS devices and Macs,Support for Third-party keyboards,
Health app and HealthKit framework,App extensions to allow the sharing of features between
apps,Family Sharing for purchases from the iTunes and App Store,iCloud Drive,Touch ID support
in third-party apps,HomeKit for smart home/Internet of Things support,Redesigned Notification
Center,Sending audio clips in iMessage,AirDrop from iOS devices to Macs.

10. IOS 9 (IPHONE OS 9)
In September 2015, iOS 9 was unveiled. Major transformation was
that Siri got way smarter- Apple named it Proactive that is it
brought back full panel spotlight feature with intelligence. This
version of iOS felt like polishing every minute detail to catch up
with its equivalents. Apps like notes, transit, Apple music and news
got a major fix, and 3D touch was introduced.iOS 9's biggest focus
is on intelligence and proactivity, allowing iOS devices to learn user
habits and act on that information, opening up apps before we need
them, making recommendations on places we might like, and guiding
us through our daily lives to make sure we're where we need to be
at the right time.

11. IOS 10 (IPHONE OS 10)
Apple unveiled iOS 10, the next-generation operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch,
on June 13, 2016, releasing it to the public exactly three months later on September 13. According
to Apple CEO Tim Cook, iOS 10 is the "biggest release ever" for iOS users, with major updates for
a wide variety of apps, services, and features, including Messages, Siri, Photos, Maps, Apple Music,
News, Apple Pay, Control Center, and more.This time, the world witnessed a wide opening up of
Apple products to third- party apps. Siri and iMessage were redesigned to allow strong third-party
integration thus connecting with Uber, Pinterest and other popular names. Apple also shared some
love to their users by filtering the photographs by location, facial recognition and other details, also
automatically treasured their precious moments together into albums and video highlights.iOS 10
features a redesigned Lock screen with 3D-touch enabled notifications that offer up more
information, a more easily accessible camera, and a new widgets screen that houses widgets
formerly located in the Today section of the Notification Center. There's a redesigned Control
Center, also with support for 3D Touch, and a new Raise to Wake feature wakes up the screen
without bypassing notifications.

12. IOS 11 (IPHONE OS 11)
September 11, 2017, showed the world what is going to be the future of smartphones. Apple once
again swept the hearts of its users by changing the look and feel of App store- a new design
and regular editorial content helped users find apps more easily. All the other major
improvements were targetted on iPad, the most important ones being new files app and dock, a
novel concept for drag and drop interactions and simpler multitasking.
Previous versions of iOS could run both 32-bit and 64-bit apps, but iOS 11 can only run 64-bit
apps. This means some older apps will no longer open once you upgrade to iOS 11. However,
most app developers have already updated (or will update) their apps to 64-bit versions, so this
will only affect a small percentage of apps.iOS 11 includes numerous tweaks, improvements, and
new features. Here are just a few examples:
-Siri improvements: Siri, Apple's personal digital assistant, has new voices (male and female) that
sound more natural. It can also instantly translate English phrases into other languages.

13. IOS 12 (IPHONE OS 12)
iOS 12, released September 17, focuses on performance and quality
improvements, along with new features like Memoji, Screen Time,
Group FaceTime, and more. Available now for developers.Siri is a
whole lot smarter in iOS 12. Siri can answer questions about
famous people, food, and motorsports, and there's a whole new
Shortcuts feature that's built on the Workflow app. With Shortcuts,
you can build a huge range of automations using first- and third-
party apps, which can then be activated with Siri voice commands.
Siri suggestions and Shortcuts show up on the Lock screen and
when you pull down to search, with Siri able to do more than ever
before with the third-party Shortcuts integration. You can create
Shortcuts using a dedicated Shortcuts app available from the iOS
App Store, and the app offers dozens of pre-made options to make it
easy to get started.

14. IOS 13 (IPHONE OS 13)
Apple introduced the newest version of its iOS operating system, iOS 13, on June 3 at the
keynote event of the 2019 Worldwide Developers Conference. iOS 13 marks a huge overhaul to
iOS, offering up a long list of new features.
First up, Apple continued on with its optimization trend introduced in iOS 12, making iOS 13
faster and more efficient than ever. App update times have improved, app launch times are two
times faster, app download sizes have been reduced by up to 50 percent, and Face ID is 30
percent faster.There's a new systemwide Dark Mode option, which changes the entire look of the
operating system from light to dark. You can choose either option, or have Dark Mode come on
at sunset or on a custom schedule. All native Apple apps feature Dark Mode support, and third-
party apps can use Dark Mode APIs to add Dark Mode integration.Apple is adding a Sign in
with Apple privacy feature that gives you a convenient and data safe way to sign into apps and
websites. Your Apple ID is able to authenticate your account via Touch ID or Face ID, and
developers see a unique random ID rather than your real info.

15. IOS 14 (IPHONE OS 14)
Apple in June 2020 introduced a new version of its iOS operating system, iOS 14, which was
released on September 16, 2020. iOS 14 was one of Apple's biggest iOS updates to date, introducing
Home screen design changes, major new features, updates for existing apps, Siri improvements, and
many other tweaks that streamline the iOS interface.First and foremost, iOS 14 brings a redesigned
Home Screen that includes support for widgets for the first time. Widgets can be dragged from the
Today view right onto the Home Screen, and can be pinned in different sizes.With a Smart Stack
feature, the iPhone can use on-device intelligence to surface the right widget based on time, location,
and activity. Each Home Screen page can display widgets customized for work, travel, sports, and
more. The Today section where widgets are housed has also been redesigned, and there's a widgets
gallery where users can choose new widgets from apps and customize those widgets.Swiping all the
way to the end of the app pages on an iPhone opens the new App Library, which is an interface
that shows all of the apps on your iPhone to see everything at a glance. Apps are organized into
your folder system, but there are also Apple-created folders like Suggestions and Apple Arcade that
intelligently surface apps.

16. IOS 15 (IPHONE OS 15)
Apple in June 2021 introduced the latest version of its iOS operating
system, iOS 15, which was released on September 20, 2021. iOS 15
introduces new features for FaceTime calls, tools to reduce
distractions, a new notifications experience, added privacy features,
complete redesigns for Safari, Weather, and Maps, and more.
Notifications have been redesigned in iOS 15, adding contact photos
for people and larger icons for apps. To reduce distraction, a
notification summary collects notifications together for delivery at an
appropriate time and arranges notifications by priority.The Maps app
now offers a new 3D view in cities with significantly enhanced
details, showing buildings, pedestrian crosswalks, bike lanes, and
more. There is a new city-driving experience with added road details
and improved Transit features, such as pinned favorite lines,
notifications to disembark, and AR walking directions.

17. IOS 16 (IPHONE OS 16)
Apple in June 2022 previewed the new version of the iPhone's operating
system, iOS 16. iOS 16 introduces redesigned, customizable Lock Screens with
widgets, the ability to edit and delete messages, improved Focus modes, an
iCloud Shared Photos Library for families, major improvements for apps like
Mail, Home, and Wallet, and much more.The Lock Screen is fully redesigned
in iOS 16.The current version of iOS 16 is iOS 16.1.1, an update that fixed
bugs.iOS 16.1 was a large update that adds support for iCloud Shared Photo
Library, Live Activities, Apple Fitness+ workouts without an Apple Watch, key
sharing in the Wallet app, support for the Matter smart home standard,
Clean Energy Charging, tweaks to the Books app, a persistent battery
percentage indicator option and a visual charge level, a gray border around
the Dynamic Island when using a dark background, changes to wallpaper
settings, security improvements, bug fixes, and more.
