Bandwidth and Voice Quality Strategy
Here are the things we can do to maintain good quality of service.
1. Use G.729 codec - this enables the use of small bandwidth for VOIP calls. This is 1/3 of the bandwidth that g.711 uses.
We need to budget 20kbps per call.
2. Use maximum 80% of the available bandwidth (per ISP line) to avoid 'choppy' lines.
3. Make sure all stations have enough at the following minimum specifications:
- Core 2 Duo CPU
- 2GB RAM
4. Maintain minimum of 2 Internet Service Providers and 2 VOIP carriers. When one ISP or VOIP carrier is bad, we can move the backup
provider.
