implementaton of Forest Management Units with the overall objective of reducing GHG emissions and
improving livelihoods of forest dependent people. In this position I am the only international team
member in a national team of 10 experts. Duties involve the oversight and quality benchmarking of
project activities, Project Design, liaison and facilitation of communication between Indonesian
government and World Bank staff; and the production of a range of documents required for final project
approval by the Word Bank Board

Position Held: Chief Technical Advisor WWF Indonesia
Project: GEF Project Preparation: Restoration and Sustainable Development, RIMBA Landscapes,
Central Sumatra. This Project design is expected to yield a USD 50 million 6 year project designed to
assist in the transition to a low carbon based (Green) economy in central sumatra while providing a model
for the implementation of supra-jurisdictional governance of a National Strategic Area embodied within
the Sumatra Island Spatial Plan. In this position I am the only international team member in a national
team of 15 experts and duties involve the direction, oversight and quality benchmarking of project
activities and the production of a range of documents required for the final project approval by the GEF
Secretariat.

This position assisted the Indonesia-Australia Forest Carbon Partnership (IAFCP) to commence
implementation of a 135 000 ha peat restoration and sustainable forest management programme
to reduce carbon emissions. The project is the first major Demonstration Project to be undertaken
by the GOI in its preparation for post 2012 UNFCCC. As a National Demonstration Activity
it involves development and testing of the full range of activities needed to establish readiness in the
Carbon Credit supply chain. Based in Palangka Raya in Central Kalimantan it has involved
negotiations with Province and Local Government leaders and civil service in developing
frameworks for management and linkage, including strategies and activities for local community,
local government and provincial capacity building and engagement for fund based incentives for reduced
emissions. It has also required work planning, team building and recruitment and day to day
supervision and quality control. The Project is informed by the Central Kalimantan Peatlands Master
Plan and forms part of the ex Mega Rice Conversion undertaken by the GOI between1995 and 1997.

In this position I was responsible for an analysis of development assistance needs and priorities for

production of periodic and final reports and presentations to the USAID Mission to Indonesia.

In this capacity I was lead writer of the Consolidation Report of REDD in Indonesia published
by the Ministry of Forestry In 2008. This synthesis document is concerned with understanding the
opportunities offered by REDD and what Indonesia must do to achieve Readiness to engage in a post
2012 REDD Protocol. I also contributed to the preparation of a range of technical background papers
and policy recommendations to the Indonesia Government on the implementation of a REDD scheme,
which were taken to UNFCCC, COP 13, Bali.

This complex interdisciplinary programme operated in 6 provinces, incluuding West Papua and sought
to improve public health outcomes through improved access by the poor to clean water. This objective
progressed through activities in all aspects of water management including: conservation and restoration
of landscape watershed functions; training and operational reform of water utilities to expand
distribution of clean water; and individual and institutional behaviour change in relation to hygiene, solid
waste management and sanitation. In this 2 year position I managed a team of 20 Indonesian
professional and support staff and consultants. I was responsible for project formulation, work planning,
budget management, field programming, quality assurance and reporting. I also led development of
strategic partnerships within the larger project, and with external stakeholders such as the provincial and
local governments and civil society organisations, including the major province chapters of the
Indonesian Ulemas Organisation, Muhamidyah and NU; universities, farmer organisations and business
leaders.

This project linked to the Indonesian government through the Coordinating Minister of Economic

throughout the region of Papua (West Irian Jaya). The aim of the project was the establishment of a
strategic plan to implement a diversified growth strategy as a means of achieving sustainable development in
the Bird’s Head region of Papua. The work focused on government institutional development for better
service delivery, at a time of rapid economic, social and environmental change.

The purpose of this project was a policy framework for environmental management in West Java to
serve as an umbrella for a series of provincial and local government strategies and infrastructure projects
to improve air, land and water resources management. The position included responsibility for
supervision and mentoring of 21 Indonesian professional staff. It dealt with all sectors in the
environment and natural resources area including water and air, sanitation and waste management, forest
and agricultural lands and fisheries.

Positions held: Senior Consultant in Forestry and Strategic Environmental Planning in Forestry and
Strategic Environmental Planning to the BP Tangguh LNG Project.
Working initially on an international peer review of the Environmental Impact Assessment, I
subsequently led the development of a program of cooperation with the Papuan Province Government
in the management of change projected as a result of this large resources project. The purpose of the
work, in partnership with the government, was to ensure optimal patterns of social and economic
development in the region of what is now the Province of West Papua, in order to minimize
environmental impact and control spontaneous in-migration, so as to avoid social and economic
marginalization of the local people on their customary land. I was also involved in technical assessment
of coastal zone ecological processes as a means of mitigating impacts of project development and in
detailed negotiations with the Forestry Department, the Province Forestry Service related to legal
matters concerned with the BP Project.

Positions held: Team Leader of a University of Queensland-Queensland Government technical
assistance project to the indigenous communities of North New Georgia, Western Province
Solomon Islands (1999-2000)
This project was initiated through the informal leader of the Melanesian communities along the northern
coastline of New Georgia Island as a way of developing reforestation of logged lowland rainforest as a
step towards a sustainable land use involving commercial plantation forests, and agriculture. The project
was initially funded by the community and church groups for a total of approximately USD 100 000 to
establish a concept and to implement the construction of what was to be the first commercial
community nursery in the country. The project subsequently received national government support and
negotiations for a more comprehensive funding model through the World Bank were in an advanced
stage at the time of the coup in mid-2000. This event effectively halted the project, although it was
eventually picked up in a different form several years later with assistance from the MacArthur
Foundation.

The Mangrove Project was concerned with integrated regional coastal resources management which
involved working with communities in Jambi, South Sumatra and East Java three provinces seeking

planning and scheduling, all reporting activities and budgets and the supervision and mentoring of 3

Duties involve the oversight and quality benchmarking of project activities, Project Design, liaison and facilitation of communication between Indonesian government and World Bank staff; and the production of a range of documents required for final project approval by the Word Bank Board October 2013 – December 2015 Position Held: Chief Technical Advisor WWF Indonesia Project: GEF Project Preparation: Restoration and Sustainable Development, RIMBA Landscapes, Central Sumatra. This Project design is expected to yield a USD 50 million 6 year project designed to assist in the transition to a low carbon based (Green) economy in central sumatra while providing a model for the implementation of supra-jurisdictional governance of a National Strategic Area embodied within the Sumatra Island Spatial Plan. From: 1999 To: 2000 Employer: University of Queensland-Queensland Positions held: Team Leader of a University of Queensland-Queensland Government technical assistance project to the indigenous communities of North New Georgia, Western Province Solomon Islands (1999-2000) This project was initiated through the informal leader of the Melanesian communities along the northern coastline of New Georgia Island as a way of developing reforestation of logged lowland rainforest as a step towards a sustainable land use involving commercial plantation forests, and agriculture. The project was initially funded by the community and church groups for a total of approximately USD 100 000 to establish a concept and to implement the construction of what was to be the first commercial community nursery in the country. The project subsequently received national government support and negotiations for a more comprehensive funding model through the World Bank were in an advanced stage at the time of the coup in mid-2000.
